Why did Disney change thier point charts for next year?

Don't get me wrong I'm angry with the points reallocation! I leave tomorrow for 12 nights and have lost some excitement over going!!!!! I contacted them in email, phone and will be seeing my guide and expressing my displeasure.

I'm not happy with this change at all. I just added everything up and it will cost us 21 more pts in 2010. I'm also not a big fan of the RCI hotels either. I became a member in Oct, I keep asking myself did I make a mistake.:sad2:

Mods,
Can we try to consolidate all these point re-allocation posts into one? It might help keep things on track and people would only have to post their position once. :offtopic:

I knew there was something else I wanted to add when I posted previously, just remembered it. Another underhanded thing they did recently was to people who bought DVC at DL last year in order to be founding members at GCV. At that time, the minimum add on was 25 points. So people bought an existing DVC and then planned to add-on when GCV became available. Now the minimum add-on is 100 points (for BLT and GCV). Many who bought this way did not plan on adding on that many. People who bought at BLT based on the points chart given, now it's changed for 2010, 4 months after it's open. They pulled the 2010 points chart for GCV, it is probably also different than the 1 or 2 months in 2009 that GCV will be open. Again, probably all within their rights but DVC has always had a reputation of being above sleezy timeshare tactics. This puts them in the same category. They should have informed DL buyers that GCV was going to be minimum 100. They shouldn't be changing points charts shortly after a resort opens. There is no historical information to do it!

DH thinks he has it figured out. He said that most people won't adjust their habits so you will probably stay the same way you have in the past. That said, the weekday points went up a little for each day. Let's say 2 pts per day for a total of 5 days = 10 pts. Even if the Fri/Sat went down a few points per day, chances are the stay is still costing you a few points more. This makes you use your points faster. If they really wanted to increase weekend occupancy, they would have lowered the weekend points much more. He made it sound very logical (I'm just hitting the treetops here) but ultimately, your stay will probably cost you more unless you adjust your habits and for most of us, that would be hard for many reasons.

What really urks me is that the raised the add-on to 100 pt minimum before this change. He said it would have resulted in too many small add ons - not worth the paperwork to Disney. People will just go to places like the Timeshare store and pick up small contracts. It really doesn't matter to Disney who owns the points. And for those who really need more points and will add through Disney, they are very happy to help you.
