Why can't people wait for their turn at store check-outs?

I decided to do two quick errands before the DNC started tonight.

First was at Lowes to pick up one item. I had just paid and was waiting for the cashier to give me change and the woman behind me was dumping her stuff on the tiny counter and basically pushing me along. I hardly had enough time to get my change and gather my purchase before she was front and center.

Then it was off to Target for a cartload of stuff (not much actually, just bulky items). A young woman got behind me and called to her Mom "this is a good line" so Mom joined in with a cart of items. My turn to check out and I have the cashier ring up the big items and place my smaller items on the belt with a divider for the two women behind me. Then I here the Mom say "slow line, you always pick the wrong line" to the daughter. Slow? I had a total of 11 items and paid with a CC. Anyway, I paid and thanked the cashier and turned to exit only to find the woman behind me had pushed her empty cart to the end of the aisle, blocking my exit. I had to push the cart away to get out. If she was in such a hurry why is she blocking my exit?

Crazy people.

Oh the stories I could tell after working in a grocery
store for 13 yrs....we could be here all night!:teeth:

I hate it when people do that. I stand my ground though and dont budge an inch til Im leaving. I dont like to be run over simply because they dont feel they can wait another minute or so.

I might be considered one of those pushy people, in some instances.

One of my pet peeves are the women who have to take the time to perfectly arrange their purses before leaving the counter. I like to actually watch my items being scanned through, and several times I've caught pricing errors that way. And it bugs me to no end when I can't do that because the woman (and it's always a woman) before me is still standing in the spot that I should be in because she's arranging her purse, looking for her keys etc.

It's much easier to have a pricing problem dealt with when it's scanned than to have to take the stuff and the receipt up to the customer service counter afterward. So ladies, if this is you, please have the courtesy to move around to the end of the counter to get yourself packed up and ready to go.

(I almost never encounter this with men. They grab the bill, stuff it in their wallet, shove the wallet into the pocket and leave.)

that would be me. :wave2:

i do it because if i don't get organized beforehand, i'll 1) hold up the line of people pushing carts who are trying to get out of the store and 2)so i can have my purse and wallet firmly in my grip (there have been a lot of purse snatchings from my grocery store). it takes me probably less than a minute to get settled.

one of my big pet peeves is the woman behind me (and yes, it's ALWAYS a woman too) who is pushing her cart into me while i am trying to close my wallet and purse.

Mine is the lady who waits until everything is totaled before digging in her purse for the checkbook. For goodness sake, fill out as much of the check as you can while your stuff is getting scanned!

One of my biggest pet peeves is the people who unload their cart and then stand in FRONT of their cart in the checkout. They pay for the items, collect their bags, and walk away. Leaving their cart still in the check out line, basically blocking me from moving forward in the checkout. This once happened to me, so I rammed the abandoned cart with mine to move it out of my way. The woman had made it about 5 feet or so from the checkout, then stopped to fiddle with her purse or something. Well, her cart came flying along behind her and smacked her in the rear. She turned and shot me the dirtiest look, although by the time it reached her, it really had only tapped her on the behind. I shrugged my shoulders and said, "You forgot your cart." The cashier thought it was pretty funny and said, "You wouldn't believe how many rude shoppers come through here." The rude shopper shoved the cart to the side and left.

People do that at our BJ's A LOT!!! the cashier usually uses the cart from the last person to load your things into as your unloading from your cart... that doesn't mean you should leave your cart at the end of the conveyor belt in other people's way... When people do that to me, I usually say to the cashier "Don't worry, I'll push THEIR cart up to you!, it's ok, they can leave it in the way!!" they have no consideration for other people or for the cashier!

But I am guilty of making sure my cc is in the same slot in my wallet each time I use it ... I don't care if it takes me two seconds longer, I usually do it after I leave the cashier area, but if I have a "pusher" behind me, I'll take the two seconds right there just to make them wait, I know it's a rotten thing to do, but if you stop pushing, you'd be out faster!!!::yes::

Actually, all of these irritations annoy me, especially the people who leave their cart. I usually pipe up, "Do you want YOUR cart?" Once I actually had someone say, "No", and walk off!!! But in regard to the OP, on the other hand, I hate it when I have an arm full of stuff (like ice cream) and I would like to put it down, but the person in front won't move up six inches so I can do so. It just seems like everyone is in their own little "ONLY ME" world, and have no clue that there are others out there too.

The one about the woman saying "Slow line" made me laugh, because if you ever see me in a line-don't get in back of me. Even if it's not my fault, something will happen to someone in the line to make it come to a complete hault. That's just my luck.:teeth:

My pet peave is people who take 35 items into the express lane. I was in line behind a woman who did this once. When the cashire told her it was the express lane, she told him "I don't care, I'm in a hurry".

I was shopping at Wal Mart one day and I actually had a cashier in the 20 items or less line come and get me to check me out. I asked her if she was sure because I didn't want someone else come up behind me and get mad because I had more than 20 items. I was all prepared to defend myself because knowing my luck, someone would have come up behind me and raised a ruckus. Fortunately, no one did until I was paying my bill. :D

I am one of those people who try to be prepared in the line, filling out my check while waiting, not taking up more space than I need, etc. But if there is a pusher behind me, just see how unorganized I can get. ;)

One day I was at Wal Mart and I hadn't even finished emptying my cart on the conveyor belt when this family came up behind me and the dad began putting their items on the belt leaving me no more room for my groceries. What nerve! It did seem to take me a little longer to get through that day. :p

I used to work in a grocery store back in the early 90's (before the days of the scanner) and I HATED working the express lane. We would only open it up when we were SUPER busy because it really wasn't a fully functioning checkout lane. It was the cigarette counter with a register at it. There was only a small counter and a little shelf for bagging. No moving belt or anything like that. Once they asked me to open up on express (I was working stock) to help out about 10 minutes before I was scheduled to go home. It was just before a holiday and we were swamped. Well, wouldn't you know it, some lady with a HUGE overflowing cart pulled into my checkout. I told her this was the express lane and I could not handle her load. She shot me a dirty look and started ranting about how much money she was spending in the store, blah blah blah. My manager gave me a half-hearted smile that said, "Just check her out and shut her up." So I did. She constantly complained about not having a big enough area to unload. Hello??? I told her it was not equipped for a large order. It took me nearly 20 minutes to check her out and of course the REAL express customers were getting angry and complaining about the lack of a REAL express lane. You just can't please people. Retail SUCKS! I'm so glad I don't do that anymore.

Well I hate people who take all day in line. I'm always in a hurry b/c there is too much to do and not enough time! No really though.... I get so annoyed at lunch when I have 30 mins to grab and eat lunch and the retired folks are at the market with 50 things in the 20 or less line. I promise when I retire I will be at the market between 9-11 or 1-3. Or take the doctors appts at 8:00am! Another of my pet peeves. Only after 10 will I accept a drs appt...than is my pledge when I retire. Or women who have to take 5 mins to count the exact change....or looks at you holding your salad for lunch and proceeds to empty her cart of 100 things in front of you!

Wow! This must be the "annoying shoppers" week! I've never had my shopping cart pushed by anyone before until this week! Isn't that weird?

My situation was kind of comical though. I was unloading my cart, I'd stopped for a second for whatever reason and the lady behind me pushed her cart up against mine and slowly pushed my cart into me to kind of push me along I guess.  I was kind of shocked so I turned to look at her and she quickly turned her head and began to look around the store and glance at me out of the corner of her eye! :p LOL! So I pushed my cart back a little so I could lean into the cart, sheesh!, and she backed up. A few seconds later when I stopped again to talk to the cashier she did the same exact thing! And when I looked at her again she did the same "look around the store, glance out of the corner or her eye" thing again. Right then I started smiling and almost cracked up. But it was really rude! ::yes::

I hate it that people cannot take the time to put their cart in a cart caddy in the parking lot. I hate it when I can't pull into a parking space because a cart is sitting in the middle of the space. I hate it even worse when I come back to my car to find a cart has run into the side of my car because of an irresponsible lazy person. Not long ago, I was at Lowes. I was just about to get into my car when a guy across the way from me just gave his empty cart a push in the general direction of the cart caddy and then started getting in his car. Of course, it didn't go straight. If I hadn't been quick to catch it, the cart would have run into my car. I yelled at the guy that he had almost hit my car. He just gave me a dirty look and drove away. Who raised these people?

It really bothers me when those people stand right up on you in the line. I always write out my check except for the amount before I even go in the store (if I am using a check) and I'm alays out of the way quickly. But there are just some people who want to be right up on you anyway. If I notice that someone is staying right on top of me in line before I reach the cashier I will get in front of my cart so they are no longer on tope of me. But I always take it with me when I'm finished.

I always threaten to sneeze or cough on the ones who get to close. Hey, they are invading my personal space so I thought I should share my germs. If you are close enough for me to feel your breath on my neck then I can sneeze or cough on you if I want since you are sharing your germs with my neck anyway.
;)

Know what's worse??? when the lazy butts leave their cart in a Handicap parking space! That's just totally rude!! I ALWAYS move carts from the handicap areas when I'm walking by.

While we're talking about checks, why do people even write checks anymore, unless the store isn't set up to use a debit card? Most grocery stores have a CR/DR card machine, and if they don't take a credit card, I use my Debit. I think writing a check is a waste of time.

Some banks charge if you use your check card more than a certain amount of times in a month. I like writing checks because the grocery store I go to the most holds the money a lot longer than I feel comfortable with.

Some people just do not feel comfortable using check cards at all anyway.

At my local bank, I would have to pay them to have a check card...at my regular bank, I get paid to use my check card. So if I need to use funds from my local account, I write a check.
