Why can't people obey the speed limit?

And since you admitted you would go 5MPH the speed limit, then I guess you can't help yourself right?

You aren't quoting me, are you? Because if you are, you're quoting the wrong person.. I don't go over the speed limit period..

We all speed, some go +5MPH, I tend to go +10MPH whether the speed limit is 25 or 70.

All I know is when overzealous soccer moms stop, try to patrol the neighborhood, and generally act like fools it just makes me driver faster.

I find this post to be rude and offensive. First, I do not consider myself a soccermom and secondly I do not try and control the neighborhood. I do expect when someone drives down my street in a private community that they obey the speed limit whether it is a visitor or resident. I do not think I'm expecting to much.

Why do you fill the need to resort to name calling? Until your post, I think this thread has been an interesting conversation. You should be ashamed of yourself!

And you think that's something to brag about? :( Amazing..

Those of you who yell and/or throw things at speeders, please be careful.

About a year ago, near where I live, this guy who was waiting with his son at a school bus stop yelled at a speeder. The speeder went home, got a gun, came back to the bus stop and shot and killed the yeller, right in front of his son and all the others at the bus stop.

So because someone isn't doing their job (the troopers you pass by) and politics are involved in setting speed limits, it's okay for you to break the law? Interesting.. Are there other laws that you feel don't apply to you?

I have always been under the impression that laws are made to be followed.. I didn't realize I was allowed to "pick and choose".. :confused3

You should post pics someday of that lovely glass house you inhabit--I'm sure it's a sight to see.

Yes, speeding is illegal. Yes, people who speed in residential neighborhoods, school zones, and other obviously risky/unsafe venues should be keelhauled. But I refuse to believe I'm going to spend eternity roasting in hell because I go 7 miles over the speed limit while moving with the flow of traffic and maintaining a proper followig distance on a major road.

Your ideas about laws seem kind of naive to me. Do you really think there are legions of frustrated serial killers who would love to go out and murder someone, but just can't bring themselves to do something illegal?!? :rotfl2:

The way I see law, it's a listing of consequences for actions. It's up to us to decide if the action is worth the potential consequence. If I ever get pulled over for speeding, I'll take my ticket as a fair consequence for breaking the law. The infrequent risk of a ticket is worth the convenience of driving faster than the speed limit when I deem it appropriate.

pearlieq - I'm not really sure what murder has to do with this thread on speeding, but to answer your question - YES! I do think there are plenty of folks out there that would take someone's life if it were legal. I know I'm not the only one out there as I've met plenty of people who feel the same way. I guess I just hang out with a bunch of bloodthirsty, vengeful friends but there are some people who just need a good killin'

My city is putting in speed humps and traffic circles in older residential neighborhoods to slow people down. They work great!

As somebody posted earlier, many people speed because they like to (and to that I must add, because they perhaps don't have the cognitive ability to reason out why it may not be wise--just because somebody can drive a car doesn't mean they have good judgment). There ARE ways to slow people down.

Wow! You really get upset when someone points out that going over the speed limit is breaking the law - which it is.. I wasn't aware that it was naive to think that people are actually supposed to follow the laws.. Hmmm..imagine that? :rotfl:

If you choose to break the law - well I guess that's your choice.. When and if you get caught, you'll get a ticket, pay a fine, get a mark on your license, and probably see a nice increase in your auto insurance.. Not only are you breaking the law, just think of all that money that you're wasting? Hopefully it will be nothing more serious than that - otherwise you'll be looking at some really big bucks..

Meanwhile I'll continue to drive whatever the posted speed limit is (or a hair lower) and you can go around me - okay? :moped: :lmao: :lmao:

AAAACCCKKKK!!! It seems here in Washington we have more serious issues going on behind the wheel than speeding! This is the actual state law!!

RCW 46.61.665
Embracing another while driving.

It shall be unlawful for any person to operate a motor vehicle upon the highways of this state when such person has in his or her embrace another person which prevents the free and unhampered operation of such vehicle. Operation of a motor vehicle in violation of this section is prima facie evidence of reckless driving.

At least we're not speeding I guess.... :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

If our commander in chief is above the law-then I am not worried about going 5 over the speed limit.

Speed limits are subjective anyway-they are more of a guide to what a safe speed should be as opposed to "going 56 in a 55 zone is a menace to society"

Also-there are many inconsistencies in speed limits-for example-I 77 in rural Ohio is 65 mph-fairly straight, open highway. I 77 is West Virginia is 70 mph, which is 170 miles of dangerous curves and mountains. Is the West Virginia road more safer at 70 mph? I don't think so.

Based on speed traps set up by our local police department, 85 is the point of capture, they leave you alone with anything less. Based on my 200 miles per day driving in KY-I would say that 99% of the people on the road here are driving over the limit is too low-it is closer to 99.9%-and that other .1% has not business having a license to begin with.

Oh I love it.. LOL So your child's school bus driver shouldn't have a license if he or she doesn't drive over the speed limit? :rotfl2:

Maybe you could start some kind of movement so that the licenses of the people who choose to obey the law could be revoked.. You're a riot.. :lmao: :lmao:
