(more than 6 months because I knew the price was going to go up soon and I wanted to lock in) What I did not know is that I had to enter the renewal in My Disney Experience (tho I've read that it should be automatic).

Sorry, but it is not possible to buy an AP "Renewal" (which is a very specific thing) 6 months in advance.
An AP "Renewal" (by specific rules) can only be purchased up to 60 days in advance (or a few days earlier under certain special circumstances) of your current AP Anniversary (ending) date... or, up to 30 days following your current AP Anniversary (ending) date.
An AP "Renewal" costs about 15% LESS than buying a brand new AP.
The confusion in your posts seems to come from what you likely bought so far in advance being a brand new full-price AP certificate.
(Which can be purchased any time up to several years in advance and activated at any time,)

"Normally" (whatever that means these days) a purchased ticket or AP certificate from Disney is virtually always shown in the purchaser's MDX account (as long as that guest's same name, address, etc. is part of the purchase info.)
But, with the virtual universality of "Glitch City," nothing surprises me if it doesn't actually work.

I wonder if it gets "confused" when there are 2 AP purchases on a given account?
Can MDE only register one at a time? So a 2nd purchased AP (as OP did in this case, since it wasn't possible to renew so early) was left hanging, so to speak, with no place to reside in waiting to be active automatically?
I'm not explaining it well in writing but I can see how MDE was unable to properly handle 2 AP and caused this exact issue.
Should it be able to hold one AP in waiting? Maybe. It is something that would be highly unusual. Most people renew the same AP vs. buying a 2nd one.

You bought a voucher. You have to convert that to an annual pass before you can use it on the app.

Sorry, but that is incorrect.
An AP "voucher" (actually called an AP "certificate") can be used in MDX to book FPs when the guest's date(s) arise.
It only needs to be "converted" (activated) when the guest is ready to use the AP at WDW to enter a park.

Or they bought a new pass. You can't renew six months out and have it be considered the same annual pass. They don't offer renewals on the website that far in advance.

Ahh, somehow I didn't realize that - that's awesome! I did basically the same thing as OP - I bought a certificate at the old price when the price increased, but hadn't touched it yet. (But I knew mine wasn't a renewal - it was a completely new pass.)

Not that I would want to gamble on it working, I'd bet the certificate would take to the account - you just wouldn't be able to activate it until the old one expired. (The certificate has to be activated by a CM, so it's not something you could do yourself or by accident.)

It sounds like what happened here is they bought a certificate and it wasn't linked to the specific person. So they just linked it to themselves and it worked - so they currently have an active AP and the upcoming certificate.

There has been so many issues with fast passes in the last two days, i would call them.. maybe they csn throw some anytime passes your way.
My march 10th fp are all messed up

I'll eventually go through this myself.
I was just able to purchase our renewal (but not) AP at the old price, plus using a work discount thanks to DDs new job. The cost of a brand new AP from there was less than the discount to renew our existing AP, even counting the 2 day ticket I have to apply towards that renewal, even without the new price increase. So I saved twice, basically. Now I'll have a new AP to link once our existing ones expire this summer. And now I still have these 2 day tickets to use at some point eventually. Probably use it for one of DD's trips next year (we are doing Land this year, bought those tickets at the old price, plus a discount too)
Didn't plan to spend that money today but it was a big savings over these price increases.

Sounds like you bought a standard AP voucher, not a renewal.

That would be correct. Though, it is hard to verify exactly what you have.

I agree, but based on above posts, it seems like I actually bought a new pass without knowing it. All I know is, I acted on an upcoming price rise several months ago and I thought I clicked on "renewal". At any rate, I currently have a trip planned for the end of March, which is a week or two after my current pass expires.

And, if you bought a new pass vs. a renewal, then the new pass will expire a year after you first activate it, vs a year after the last one expires. In your case, it's only a 2 week difference. In others it can be more.
We just bought vouchers for a new AP, instead of renewing when our current one expires. I did it because of the price increase and because DDs new job offers ticket discounts and they sold AP, at the old rate, for less than the renewal cost even before the price increase. I ended up saving over $500 on each pass by doing that. Plus, now, we'll have our trip in April, and are going to DL in June this year, which is when our existing AP expire. We aren't due back to WDW till Aug so that's when the new AP will be activated.
