I don't know what I'm doing wrong but when I try and book fastpasses for my mid-March trip, the calendar won't let me get past March 7th. No matter how many times I refresh, it doesn't "unlock" the rest of March. Anyone have any ideas?

Are you staying onsite after March 7?

Oh, I think I just realized what the problem is. My current AP expires on the 14th. I renewed it, but please someone tell me I don't have to wait til I get there! I'm arriving on the 17th. Will my renewal not automatically kick in until the 15th?

If you HAVE already renewed your AP, and that info is in your MDX, you CAN make FPs with that renewal.
Purchased APs do not have to be activated in order to advance-book FPs.

But, if you have not renewed, you don't have valid tickets after the date that your current AP expires.

I have already renewed but I must have to link that renewal in MDX. I have not done that, nor did I realize I needed to!

Those kind of things are usually taken care of automatically by Disney.
When you renewed, did you do so on-line via your MDX account?

What do you see when you call up your tickets in MDX?

I had that problem last year. Once I renewed them, everything worked.
My and my wifes APs automatically linked to my account. I had to manually enter our daughters passes before I could do FPs for her.

In My Disney Experience, it only showed my current AP, even tho I had renewed it months ago. I wonder why some people's linked automatically, as mentioned by gharter above?

Renewed months ago?
Meaning you bought a renewal voucher prior to your window opening?
If so, then there you go. That had to be linked. If you renew using the renew link, which appears during your window, then you don't have to do anything. It (MDE) sees that automatically.
Vouchers are different and I suspect do have to be entered manually.

"Normally" (whatever that means these days) a purchased ticket or AP certificate from Disney is virtually always shown in the purchaser's MDX account (as long as that guest's same name, address, etc. is part of the purchase info.)
But, with the virtual universality of "Glitch City," nothing surprises me if it doesn't actually work.
(I does make me sad, however.)

Does the renew link work? When I click it, it takes me to a page with a phone number to call.
A few years ago, I could renew online. Last year, I changed passes and couldn't get the renewal discount without calling.
I thought I remembered a discussion here that renewing APs you had to call to get the discounted price for renewing the pass.

I didn’t use it last year because I had a ticket to use but I used it the year before with no problems

It was as Robo said. I didn't have a voucher; I renewed at the website. So, "glitch city". I did link it and was immediately able to make fastpasses.

Curious, I didn't realize you could renew months before expiration. Though maybe my definition of months ago is just different
