ok we are going in october with our 3year old daughter, she sleeps in a toddler bed next to our bed at home, so i need a king size bed for all three of us. when i call to request this for pc they say we can't do that because of her age. so my question is has anyone ever gotten a king size bed at pc with a child? they put it down for me but they acted like i wouldn't get it thanks heather:earsgirl:

I've heard people complain about this before. It doesn't make any sense to me, since so many people these days do a "family bed". I can definately see this being a problem for us in a few years, too.

Do what we do. We always get 2 queens if we can't get the king. I then sleep in the bed with DD. DH gets his bed to himself and I get DD. Works great!

Have you tried requesting a king room with a crib? They don't need to know your DD isn't sleeping in the crib and it might get around what seems to be an automatic limitation of 2 people per bed on reservations. Of course, she might want to sleep in the crib if it is situated next to your bed as it would be at home. If not, I've found them to be great for storing things I don't want my DD (almost 3) to get into :teeth:

Off topic, LisaZoe your daughter is such a cutie pie. :D

We tried to book a king bed last year (DS was 3) at PO-R. DW and I don't like sleeping in double beds (we have a Q at home). We were going to bring an air mattress for DS to sleep on (have done this several times at other hotels).

Reservations told us that king rooms are for 2 people and fire codes only allow them to book 2 people in a K room. Not sure of the rules on infants in cribs, but DS was too old for a crib. Therefore, they couldn't book the 3 of us in a room with one bed.

If this is true, I sure wish I would've gone with the king bed when I made our reservations a couple of days ago.

We were trying to decide whether to get a room with a king bed, because some of them only have stand-up showers (our 2 year old has not graduated to showers yet). We really wanted a king bed so he can sleep between us.

Our "reservation guy" told us it would be no problem getting us a king bed. (Maybe it's because he's only 2.5?) But then the wife said if they couldn't guarantee a tub, then we would just deal with the two double beds.

But since then, we've changed our minds. We'd just feel safer with him a king bed. I'm going to call them back and ask for a king bed.

I'll report back and tell you what they say this time. But our reservation guy "Major" didn't hassle us at all when I originally inquired.

Fire codes? What does it matter, since the rooms themselves are all the same size. The number of people in a room....yes. The size of the bed(s)....no.

Could you request a king room and not even tell them about your daughter?? Might not be the thing to do, but they should not tell you what kind of bed to sleep in - it's your vacation.
I would think she would not get "carded" for EMH since she will be with her parents - so what is the point of even mentioning her when making the reservation. Just make it for two adults.

JungleJim, I'm just stating what I was told last year by the CM. They made it sound like they couldn't do it because of over booking (i.e. too many people) in the room or hotel. I don't know if there is a capacity on how many guest the hotel can hold or not. I agree with you, though. We went round and round with them and they wouldn't budge. Had to settle for two doubles. DW and DS in one, and I in the other.

Antonia, that would work (booking for 2 adults) if you are doing room only. If you do one of the packages and you need to pay for the child (for park admissions), it wouldn't. we never went before DS was 3, so I wouldn't know if on the packages we would need to list him since under 3 is free.

Since many king rooms are designed for accessibility, what would happen if a couple (one of whom was handicapped) was traveling with a child? It would seem that they'd need to be able to fit in a cot or roll-away bed. It might cost a little more but I can't see how Disney could prohibit families of 3 from using these rooms unless they also have accessible rooms with 2 double beds.

I don't doubt that there are governmentally mandated capacity limits but I'd bet it's more about the building than the specific rooms. It's probably just simpler for Disney to calculate capacity based on set room maximums but it's worth a shot at talking to someone "higher up" than the CM handling reservations at CRO or WDTC.

Wounded but back posting (don't shoot the messenger, I just reported our experience as do many other people on this board).

I called Central Reservations this morning to see if I could get a king bed room and have our 4 year old son sleep on an air mattress. The first CM told me it couldn't be done but couldn't give me an explanation as to why. So I asked if I could speak to a supervisor as to the reasons why. She passed me on to Dene' (sp?). I challenged her on it, but she says that it is the FIRE MARSHALL who says that a king bed is for TWO PEOPLE and they can not put more than two people in a king room. I then challenged her on an infant and bringing a pack and play. She said that a child UNDER TWO is permitted in the room either in a crib or pack and play. She said since the four year old wouldn't fit in the pack and play, they can't book more than two in the room. I reitterated that we are bring the air mattress, but she said NO. Before I hung up, I clarified with her, "so it is the FIRE MARSHALL who sets the rule, correct". Her reply, "yes".

So to reitterate Disney's policy: "If the room only has one bed, only two people can stay in the room. If they are with a child under the age of 2, the child can stay in a single bed room."

Don't blame me for the policy, I'm just reporting what I was told. And now I got the same answer twice. If you don't believe me, call central reservations and challenge them on it.

People have posted ways to get around the policy as well as challenged my explanation (which is what Disney has said), but no one has cited why you can't get a single bed room for 3 people (all of whom are OVER the age of 2). If any one can state a different reason, from Disney, I appologize for ranting. But this is what I was told.

I'd be a pain in the bum and ask for a copy of the statement/rule from the fire marshall, and if they can't give it to me, who do I contact. It's amazing how many times I've come across customer service people who make up things to get you to accept what they are saying...not saying that this is the case here.

Oh, and yes, I once worked customer service, and have had my own business (never made anything up, though), so I know I am a pain in the bum. :p

thanks everyone for your answers, i really don't understand there issue with it , but i will ask for the form with it wrote on there. i will be 6 1/2 months preganant and will not be in the mood to argue about it! lol! we are getting the package deal so i can't lie about having her there, we will be there oct2-9 so i will report back on what happends! thanks again heather:earsgirl:

I want to make a couple of observations here. At MOST Disney resorts, a request for a King Size bed is just that : a REQUEST. It is very seldom guaranteed, except for medical reasons. I know that Pop Century, All Star Resorts, Coronado Springs, the Contemporary, and the Grand Floridian fall into this policy. The Polynesian does not even have any King Size beds (except in suites). In these resorts there are relatively few king size bed rooms. And a large percentage of those are in handicapped accessible rooms.

There are more requests for King size beds than there are rooms containing them. So just because you request a King, you may or may not get it. And unless you receive a WRITTEN resort confirmation with the words "King Bed confirmed", you do not have one reserved. It is just a request.

There are a few resorts where you can pay extra for a King bed. If you pay extra, it would be guaranteed. I hope all Disney resorts go this way eventually. As you may guess, I work at the Front Desk of a Disney resort. I am tired of people telling me that they "RESERVED" a King size bed. No you didn't. You requested it and if we have it available, you will get it. But if they are all occupied, you will NOT get one. Getting nasty and rude will not change the situation. I've had guests at the Polynesian curse me and scream claiming that they have a King bed reserved through CRO or WDTC. But there are NOT any KING beds at the Polynesian and there is nothing we can do about it. At other resorts where I work, you may get one if you are willing to wait a couple of days and then change rooms when one becomes available.

And yes, we will not put a family of three or four in a room with only a King bed. We are also told it involves fire marshall rules. But we also have more requests of single and double travelers for King rooms than we have King rooms to fill those requests.

I just called back today and requested a king bed for my wife, 2.5 old son and myself. They told me. "no problem sir, we should have no problem meeting your request."

So either our 2.5 year old doesn't count as person, or Disney is just inconistent in following "rules". (A large organization like Disney being inconsistent in it's policies? The nerve ;) )

Another thought....maybe it has to do with number of king beds available at the particular resort one is booking? And maybe the time of year makes a difference.

So either our 2.5 year old doesn't count as person,

That's pretty much it. Occupancy limit on a king bed room is 2 plus a child under 3 (they say "child under 3 in a crib" on the occupancy limits notes). Once your son reaches 3 they will tell you they can not book that room for you.

Since many king rooms are designed for accessibility, what would happen if a couple (one of whom was handicapped) was traveling with a child?

In that case (at least at the WL) you would be given a handicap room for the couple and an adjoining room with double beds for the kid(s) at no additional charge.

you can stay at a universal loews hotel in a king bed!! they say the king bed sleeps 3. it never dawned on me people let thier kids sleep with them.( not that there is anything wrong with it, we just dont have any kids ) there was only one reason i could think of ....... but that might have been influanced by my hubby giggling and saying " woo hoo " ;) ;) ! LOL now i know!!

On my Feb trip to POP I had a King with my almost 3 yr old. It did work great! I like LisaZoe's Idea.

Also.. the King room I had, had a tub in the bathroom. I didnt say anything upon placing the reservation. But 4days prior I sent in my room request asking for the following

King bed because at home DD is used to sleeping with me and the double just would not be comfy.

Non 1st floor as she naps during the day and this would cut out on noice.

That got me a great 3rd floor standard NS room with a King and a tub. Good luck! Just write up a request and you can always discuss it with the front desk upon checkin. Being OCT I dont think its PEAK season and they wont be BOOKED.
