Why can't I get a king bed room?

Upon calling several hotels in the DLR area to check rates I discovered that I had real problems trying to book a king bed room b/c it will be me, DBF, and DD2. They will offer a double room instead. And with hojo's I told the res specialist that I prefer my DD to sleep in the middle of us adults so she does not roll off the bed. I do not use pack and play or cribs b/c It took a while to transition her from crib to toddler bed. The toddler bed has railings which can prevent her from rolling off. Why Do Hotels have a problem with this? Strange. Is it a fire hazard or something? :confused3

Unless the room has official sleeping space for 3, you can't reserve it. And they feel that a king bed can only hold 2 people. ("they" being just about any hotel...we can't get a nice King bed at HoJo's either)

For non-Disney hotels, we have had a tendency to just not mention DS to get the king bed like we're all used to at home. But when we stayed at PPH we were on a package, and we wanted him to take part in the package (for instance, we wanted 3 vouchers for ToonTown Morning Madness) so we had to "mention" him, and we got a 2 queen room and it was fine. Though I *think* hubby slept on one bed while DS and I were on the other.

You could call them, instead of doing it online, to see if there are any rooms with foldout couches that make the room officially big enough for the 3 of you. Or see about a roll-in bed to rent, even if no one sleeps in it.

Since your DD is 2 she very likely can roll away from pillows, so you could also create a wall of pillows if you do end up in a 2-bed room where the beds are too small for the 3 of you.

Good advice about the fold out couch. That would work. I had no problem booking King room at DLH. DD does not like sleeping anywhere but home so when we stay at hotels we book a king which seems to help. I did consider just not mentioning the little one or using a wall of pillows, maybe even a chair against her side of the bed to prevent rolls!

Are you really concerned about your DD rolling off the bed or do you *want* a king? If you really want the king, then you might try reserving the room for 2 adults and leave her in the car with the other adult while you check in. Also, I believe the Fairfield Inn had a sofa bed with the king room. I'm sure that would allow a 3rd person.

If you're just concerned about her rolling off, does she normally have a problem with that? If she's used to a toddler bed, then the Queen bed is going to be a lot of room for her.

Another option might be to request a King bed with a rollaway cot/pack and play for your DD (which, of course, you don't intend to use). Perhaps that way hotel management can be happy and so can your DD and you!

You can often ask for a crib (free) and then they'll let you reserve the room. I always just declined the crib at checkin and had no problems.

With HoJo, I'd call the hotel directly, not the reservation line, and ask for Lorealle, and explain. I'll bet you anything she'll be able to get the king for you. Lorealle ROCKS!

I think maybe they have a rule -- 3 to a bed LOL.

I agree jsut order a crib- No one is going to say anything.

The United States is one of the few countries where the child does not sleep with one or both parents. Our daughter did till she said she was ready for a big girl bed---- I missed the hugs and talks like only a 2 - 3 year old can.

Maybe a queen /queen and being the mom you will share with the child.

Have fun -- it might be also that most king rooms are for ada and as such they need to keep a few until last min. But no matter good luck and have a fun trip.

I am really concerned with her rolling off plus as stated earlier she does not like sleeping in new places (prone to nightmares). She definitely has a history of rolling off. When she awakens from bad dreams she will come to my bed (queen) and sleep with me , which she sleeps so WILD that she rolls off. I have since changed my room around so that my bed is against the wall on her side. No more problems with that. If only the hotels would cooperate!

Thank you , that is my tentative plan. I think I will just please them by asking for a crib. lol:rotfl:

I did call the hotel direct, but I didn't speak with Lorealle. Maybe that will help.

Good point, I appreciate you sharing about your DD. How cute. My DD still relies deeply on the comforts of sleeping with mommy when waking up from a bad dream or feeling insecure for any reason. I took a class on Ethnicity in Sociology and read quite a bit about how other poorer countries think it is very strange that we put babies in cribs at a young age. We are indeed the only country that puts babies in their own beds. I guess it is a culture difference. I believe that we should do what our motherly intuition tells us is right for the little ones. Thanks for the advice! :lovestruc
