Why are theme park views still priced so high?

I agree. We had TPV a couple of times and watching the fireworks from the room was never the draw for us. We did see them from the room one night but only by accident because our kids were tired and we called it a night early. The experience is so much better up close.

I just take the golf cart down to the beach if timing permits and watch/listen from there. No additional expense.

For many people, it’s a once in a lifetime trip for a family of 4. If they’re gonna go, they’ll still go all out and get the theme park view.

Agree with previous posts.
The benefit is looking over the Theme Park during the day and when its lit up at night.
Any thing above that (fireworks, etc), is a bonus.

The major benefit is being able to see the fireworks from your room.
So true. That is a major benefit. But all hotels charge more for a view. And the view of Magic Kingdom is quite spectacular.

Another point to make is - like "brand integrity" - Disney also maintains "price integrity". They have no problems applying discounts when they think it's needed when they want to sell the rooms, but in the end "price integrity" must be maintained. It's why ticket prices haven't dropped. And while being able to see fireworks at "theme park view" rooms is nice, in the end the rooms are still "theme park view".

Right now guests have to make a decision. Are they ok with a tempered experience? Most people have to answer yes to that before booking at all. So they’re already in the mindset to compromise about not getting 100% of potential experience. The lack of fireworks isn’t a necessarily a deal breaker for people who usually gravitate toward preferred views I think.

I agree. We are booked TPV at the GF even though we know there’s very little chance of fireworks coming back by our late May dates. Fireworks were never the aim, but enjoying the views of the castle, the boats on the lagoon, etc. (But this is with an AP discount)

I don't like to pay for TPV even with fireworks. Someone said the view is 'spectacular' but I wouldn't go that far. What you can see is very small. It's charming. But I won't pay an extra $100-150/night for charming.

My mother did want TPV for her CR stay but it's because she wanted to see the fireworks from her room.

Because people will still pay for it.

Exactly. Most people willing to pay for TPV are still willing to pay for it with or without fireworks. Some of it is because they view the upcharge as worth it and for some it’s because they just want to book the “best” room no matter what. There are still proportionally enough guests willing to pay the higher prices right now so why not take their money?

Even if there are somewhat less people willing to pay for TPV rn, it’s worth it to Disney to maintain their pricing structures going forward. Worst case scenario they overbook the category below TPV a little bit and get goodwill from giving an upgrade.

I guess because people are willing to pay it. With that said, I never understood the whole view thing at all. I mean, seeing MK off the balcony is great and all, but how much time are you actually spending in that room to make it worth it? I want to be IN the park for the fireworks and views, not sitting in my hotel room.

Obviously there's more to the view, but I've always had a good chuckle wondering "is this the only resort in the world that charges more for a parking lot view vs. a lake view?" LOL

I get that. Especially for commando types, paying for views doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. But for a significant portion of frequent guests (self included), trips tend to be less and less about go go go in the parks and more about the resort, including the in-room experience. I love HEA to death but I have seen it enough times that I don’t really need to park in the hub multiple times on a trip for the projections. I’m cool with just seeing the pyro from a distance after a certain point.

Especially for those of us who are disabled and/or have “brain stuff” types of challenges (ADHD, anxiety, folks on the spectrum, etc), there is a lot to be said about having a home base with a nice view to retreat to when the parks get to be too much. You still feel like you are near the action but can breathe. My family always took frequent midday breaks growing up and I have continued that as an adult because WDW can be brutally overstimulating.

My gf and I both have ADHD and anxiety and when we stayed at the Poly a couple years ago, we were both feeling fried and terrible after rope dropping HS and coming back for our midday break so we opted to scrap our evening plans and just chill at the resort. We didn’t have a TPV room, just regular Garden View, but got room service and sat on the balcony watching monorails zip by, then when we were feeling up to it, walked downstairs to get dole whips and watched HEA from the beach. Instead of fighting crowds we just walked back to the room when it was over.

I know this is about views, but this is the kind of thing that makes us pay to stay in Deluxes regardless of what perks are being offered. And I have to say I am looking forward to sitting on our balcony at the Grand drinking tea in the morning watching those pretty sunrises on the lagoon as much as getting on our favorite rides. It’s why we always pay for a balcony on cruises. That retreat is so important to me and it’s why I don’t burn out on Disney trips the way some do, I’m convinced.
