Why are points to Port Orleans more than some DVC resorts?

I was checking the points charts and was shocked to see that Port Orleans in Jan required more points than OKW or BWV.

Why is this. I thought that the DVC rooms were much nicer than the moderate rooms?

Does Disney do this to discourage DVC members from using their points at Moderate hotels.

I figured that Port Orleans would be less per week in Jan than BWV or OKW, that is why I was looking in the first place. Trying to see how I could stretch any points I would own if I became a DVC member.

Thanks!

The points for a member are best spent at a DVC resort. The reason to join DVC is to stay at the wonderful accomodations at the club, not go elsewhere, if you do, you will pay a priemium. Do not join if you plan on staying off the DVC property, you will be getting killed by the cost. It has nothing to do with which rooms are better, the points are for DVC. Someone else will get into the longer explaination, maybe.

Because the moderate resorts (and deluxes) are not DVC resorts. DVC has to negotiate rates with WDW for the non-DVC hotels at WDW.

You get the best use of your points staying at DVC resorts. The DVC resorts do have much nicer rooms than the moderates and even the deluxes since you can get a two bedroom villa with a full kitchen, plus a washer and dryer. Two (or three) TVs. One VCR/DVD player.

if you use your points in other places besides a DVC resort - then DVC must sell the room or villa you would have had to the public - they don't do this - it must go through WDW - then CRO -

so both WDW and CRO take a cut - then is some cases it is not rented.

the price of points for non-DVC must take all of this into consideration.

Thank you for the information.

If I join DVC I would certainly stay at DVC resorts most of the time. I was just curious if I could stretch out those points a little farther if I stayed at a moderate resort.

no - but your points will go a long way at OKW and HH (in certain seasons).

You could stretch your DVC points quite a bit by paying cash to stay at a moderate resort on Friday and Saturday nights. It costs significantly more points to stay at a DVC resort on the weekend nights( Fri & Sat) than it does for the week nights (Sun - Thur).

Best wishes -
