Why are people on US boards so touchy?

Threads of this nature just run its course and eventually die out

but if it gets snarky again, I can give out points and close the thread

There are dozens of over-the-top Disney cheerleaders on these boards, who can't be reasoned with.

I've only run across one of those here on the Uni boards.

Agavegirl, when are you coming back to the something thread?

You have been missed!

I am a tax accountant and have, this year, gone to year round work. It is tax season right now but I am checking in more since we have a 2018 Orlando trip in the planning phase. Also, for a little while, I was scoping out Cruise sites. I just got back from my very first Royal Caribbean Cruise last week. Sigh, DH loved it. I don't get seasick thankfully but I like theme parks better. At least they have quality shows.
"creeping" in from time to time. Thanks Mac...I appreciate you and the rest of the homies so much. Think I will go check the "something thread" right now.

I figured it would have been locked a long time ago. DId bluer just admit to short man syndrome?:rotfl2:

I've not been to Universal since 2007, but being a local to Pinewood/Leavesden I've been to the Potter studios more times than I care to count, so I am crazy excited to see what Universal has done.

Not half as excited as my boyfriend though. He is virtually frothing at the knees in excitement..

:D

Never been to Leavesden to see what they have there.......but, have only heard good things about it.......frothing at the knees is a new one........haven't heard that before.......lol......I can imagine the excitement though after so long.........

Lol........I can imagine some men having little man syndrome with some comments .......but Bluer isn't one of them........:rotfl:

Ok, so I now have one vote not to move this thread to the cb forum

LOL.

If we were watching twilight zone, how many would wish the thread into the cornfield..

I don't want it moved; I just want to find out what prompted OU to write it!

Wait till you see the Potter areas!

They blow anything Disney has done out of the water..........we are not the biggest Potter fans, but both Potter places are stupendous!

So very much yes.

And the way the music fades out and in as you get to different "islands" in IOA. Augh. So good. I can spend an hour just staring in Port of Entry (not the store at Epcot) reading the funny signs (the rental sign for strollers and everything else they have listed there???) and looking at the beauty. I'm dying here... We kept taking cruises then we bought a house so the money to keep our "just in case" APs wasn't there and now I'm just yearning... I was out there in Feb but couldn't go to any themeparks because my relative doesn't have tickets/passes anywhere (and she's a FL resident)...

And watch the dragon breathe fire and take 100 pictures of it each visit.....

WHY do we feel compelled to take MORE pictures of the dragon? It's always the same!

Oh how I want your life.

We were in England. I considered the tour. I thought (because I live in America where our version of a train system means twice a day trains from Seattle to Vancouver BC, and if there's a landslide even near the tracks they close the tracks for 3 full days and you get to take a bus) "oh I'm nervous, how do you get from the train station to the studio, what if there's no way, oh no oh dear me", and I didn't go on the tour.

And then (on the train making our way from Birmingham to London)...

Because it's England, not America, and they've thought of these things already...

He is virtually frothing at the knees in excitement..

Frothing at the knees? Now that's a new one!

but if it gets snarky again

I'm reminded of the Friends line... "You're over me? When were you...under me?"

Did I miss snark? Drat!

I cannot remember WHERE I heard the 'frothing at the knees' line, but it must've been twenty years ago and it's stuck with me since.. I do love a good turn of phrase. :)

As for the WB Studios tour, bumbershoot and schumigirl, if you get the chance, get yourself over there.. It ain't cheap (well, I'm applying UK standards to it, it's not *quite* up to Disney levels), but it is REALLY fun, and really informative. You can spend an hour just checking out the the scale model of Hogwarts they used in the films..

Think I must've missed the snark. Must pay more attention!

This is one of the things I remember from last time I was at US. In 2007... O.o

I love a good turn of phrase too.......my American friends do enjoy some of my British sayings......usually in emails though......not for public consumption!

I was in London for a few days in November, but we ended up not doing it again, maybe at some point we'll have a drive down just for that.........I know so many people who have done it and loved it.

I guess we should also coin the phrase, "Quaking at the bit"!!!! ;)

Two new Universal phrases to be added to our forum!

:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

I can imagine that some posts have been removed from this thread, because I see some pretty good responses.

My point was, I've been on the DIS long enough to know that almost any subject can get out of hand, even some that seem benign or banal.

I think what often happens is that we tend to think about each subject from what we've experienced. Maybe I post about someone wearing pink that behaved badly. Many people wear pink every day, but you read my post, and think of a nice person who wore pink.

Only we can substitute "wearing pink" for almost any personal habit or personal choice. (like any parenting choice.)

People often react emotionally based on personal experience/bias, instead of rationally or objectively, but we don't really know it.

Be assured, i have not removed any of the posts in the thread.

Things have calmed down

Sometimes a poster will create a thread and never return to it.
Such is the case here.

The darkside forums have always ran smooth for the most part.
Every once in a while, a "debate" type of thread will arise.
But, it dies out sooner or later...

I have no problem with posters expressing themselves as long as they play nice.

The two main UO forums are basically informational and sharing experiences.
The stickies are set up to help find answers quickly and they are kept updated

Ah, I usually post more on the Disney side. Threads comparing US and WDW in some way are pretty common.

Over time, everything gets debated on the DIS. ( You can see, I go back quite a ways....)

Now THAT is the morsel that makes this thread interesting....as they say, you can't start a fire without a flame.

I wonder if the OP has read this thread without logging in or just hasn't been back yet??

I have to say that I love the Universal Boards. I used to be one of those Disney hardcore and I'm not anymore. Actually I've been to Universal prior to Harry Potter just never gave it a second thought

I owe this thread for helping me discover the jem that is Universal. Well that and Diagon Alley. And Cabana Bay.

Plus there are so many great posters on here that I've learned so much.

Probably a day late & a dollar short but can't resist :)

We are planning our first trip to US this summer. I've noticed the regulars on these boards can be very touchy if anyone dislikes the smallest thing about Universal. I'm beginning to think they have "short man syndrome" here. I don't understand the defensiveness when any kind of criticism comes up. And, the first thing they usually do is put down WDW...even if it's not part of the discussion. Just my own observation.

And you are entitled to it. IMO most here have open minds, as majority freely admit to going both ways when it comes to WDW & U. If anything not identifying so closely with a single park that they can't appreciate both, warts & all.

Most boards here have a tone. The unofficial one on the transportation board was something to do with there is no pixie dust here. Always stuck me funny. The vibe here Is low-key & accepting...no flaming, no fighting, no biting.

One thing that is paramount (or should I say universal) here is the facts are the facts. Mis-speak and you will be corrected quickly, but kindly.

Lots of stickies have cropped up under the current Mod's management. Certainly makes it easier to read through first, then post any questions or points that need clarified VS tons of threads on the same subject.

Misinformation is not helpful to those planning a trip, especially noobs. The regulars here are quick to set things straight but things do change. Have yet to see anybody offended when corrected re that sort of situation. Old dogs learn lots here too.

Lol, short man syndrome. :lmao:

I had to google, there's a tall man one too lol...who knew?

Go to the Disney side and say something...anything negative about WDW or the Disney Company and you'd better have your flame suit on. Talk about touchy!
This right here is sooo spot on! It's like they completely DO NOT get that Disney, if at all possible would pick you up by the ankles and shake out your last dime and the days of them caring about the consumer are long gone sadly. You would think that everyone you talk to is an imagineer or had some hand in building the parks. lol If anything went bad on your visit, be sure to know that it was in fact YOUR fault fool! lmao!

Its the moderators of this message board, Head over to the Purchasing DVC forum and make a post that says you want to buy saratoga becuase its economical but you dont plan to stay there. Guaranteed a moderator stopping just short of calling you an idiot will tell you in a gruff tone to buy where you want to stay. There are so many people on this board like that, agree with me or I will troll you, lol I can go on and on but I wont. I was once active on disbaords, only here recently becuase I wanted ROFR stats. Otherwise I stay away. Disney is a happy place, many people here are just bitter and why deal with that, there are other boards with better people on them.
