Why are DVC rooms different than regular rooms?

Everyone has their own opinions, and I personally would pay more to have the white comforters (I know some of you think thats petty) but it gives the room a totally different feel than the current decor. I remember staying at beach club and coming into the room, and it was just so crisp and beautiful. I feel like some of the DVC studios are more value/moderate resort decor than deluxe resort.

We would also pay more for the white comforters. I hate the comforters they use now and we actually take them off the bed. They get washed less frequently than the white duvets that can be washed for each guest.

1st off, if I wanted deluxe room accomodations I would never have purchased a timeshare.

2nd, I don't want to pay additional dues to make this timeshare a "deluxe". If I want a deluxe room with a duvet and daily housekeeping I don't use my points, I pay out of pocket and stay elsewhere. In fact, the 1st thing that comes off when I arrive at most hotels is the comforter/bedspread/duvet, I consider them un-sanitary in probably most any hotel/motel/timeshare accomodations.

3rd, Personally, I purchased DVC to be on-site, to have easy access to Disney and I love Disney. I purchased DVC to have a kitchen, washer/dryer, balconies and a home away from home. If my intent was to mostly frequent studios I may not have purchased DVC, but even studios have couches which in my mind take them a notch above a room (duvet or not) with 2 beds. If I'm spending 5 days at Disney, then eating, sleeping, watching TV, hanging out in bed is not for me, at least give me a room with a couch There's always the owners locker, bring your own clean duvet!

All I was doing is wondering why the rooms weren't the same as the cash rooms. I didn't realize that other timeshares weren't the same type of rooms as the ones we stay in either.

We were sold on the fact that we were buying into deluxe accommodations, which implied they were the same as the cash rooms. And after seeing the AKV and BLT rooms it really didn't occur to me to ask about the others. It was our own stupidity to assume that paying 70K+ over the course of the contract, it would get us the same accommodations.

If I had known they were not the same accommodations, possibly we would not have bought DVC and just continued to pay cash for our rooms.

We personally like upscale hotel look, again thats just us personally. And will most likely just continue to stay at BLT (our home resort) since that is the feel of that resort.

Its obviously that its a topic divided and thats OK. I realize not everyone can be pleased. Hopefully people interested in DVC will be made aware that the accommodations are not the same or read these posts as it is something we were not aware of.

I know I repeated myself in this post but after reading everyones comments just wanted to let you know, I wasn't trying to bash DVC or anything. Just was curious about the visible difference in rooms.

Absolutely not! On these boards, it's mentioned over and over about doing "one's homework" before making such a big purchase. For me it took several years to learn the in's and out's of timeshare ownership, even if it is Disney , it's still a timeshare. I feel I'm getting what I paid for, it works.

The room thing is not a big deal to me, obviously for some it is and that's how it was sold to them. The deluxe part for my family, is the flexibility in accomodations, staying on-site. We love the resorts, surrounded by beautiful Disney landscaping and easy access to Disney restaurants, parks, golf etc.

I agree. I bought BWV for the great location between Epcot & DHS. That and the awesome boardwalk views is what keeps me going there. I love a 1 bedroom with the huge bathroom, washer/dryer, room to spread out. I consider it deluxe. I really don't care that much about the bedspread designs. As long as it's clean, that is all I care about.

When I look at the pictures side by side I can see a difference. But in every DVC unit I've stayed I've truly felt like I was staying in Deluxe accomodations (before joining DVC we stayed at Poly), in fact better than Deluxe because of all the space, the kitchen, the washer / dryer? I am surprised by how many seem to be disappointed with the accomodations.

I wouldn't recommend trying to draw any conclusions from this thread. You're only getting a tiny sampling of impressions.

If you speak to far more members, I think you'll find that the vast majority are either unaware of the differences--and content with DVC--or like crisi they at least accept that they are getting what they pay for.

DVC does not refurbish enough, and I feel a bit ripped off.
I didn't purchase DVC to do Disney on the cheap. If I wanted that, I would have done something off site. I was sold on a high end, superior product.
Cost? Isn't that what maintenance fees are for? I understand fees cover more than just refurbs, but to some extent maintenance and refurbishment are synonymous.

I don't mind paying high annual fees and receiving a superior product.
I hate paying high fees for mediocrity.

I agree and that is why I love the choice to use my points this next year to stay in a collection resort. In spite of people telling me how much greater the Villas are. I think they drank the kool- aid

When I look at the pics side by side, I see a difference as well. That said, I don't really know which one is better, they are just different. I actually like them both. I think the DVC decor is deluxe, as I do the hotels.
My beef is not decor as much as it is upkeep and cleanliness. If they keep the decor, I'm okay with that, but I want it clean and maintained. That said, a little variety over the years would be nice... As long as it's done properly as Diane has stated below..

...when they do refurbs like they did at OKW where they didn't stick to the theme and did a "cheap" version of a 90% redo that looked more like a 50% redo...well... I'd rather have done right than done cheap.
