I agree it is kind of stupid to get worked up over something like this but what right does any organization have to send my kids anything. I actually agree with their message in the video...but I do think this is kind of trying to get past the parents and using the cartoon characters is propaganda towards children. What if it was a message you didn't agree with then would you feel it was stupid to be upset about it. I think schools are moving way towards more social engineering than I particularly like...and should work more on actually educating the children. There was an article recently on a few news sites about one school districts math scores dropping over the course of a few years with no real explanation...then people looked at the math curriculum mandate and the first few paragraphs were about diversity and sensitivity and such....nothing about actually teaching math maybe noble goals but should definately not be the first priority for a math curriculum.

It continues, "Students will: Consistently analyze their experiences and the curriculum for bias and discrimination; Take effective anti-bias action when bias or discrimination is identified; Work with people of different backgrounds and tell how the experience affected them; Demonstrate how their membership in different groups has advantages and disadvantages that affect how they see the world and the way they are perceived by others . . ." It goes on and on.

Did you guys hear about the anti-gay protesters that crashed a gay pride parade in Philidelphia? They got charged with some type of hate crime thing for chanting ant-gay rhetoric! I hope they get really harsh sentences!!

While I certainly don't agree with what they were doing, it's unfortunate that their freedom of speech is being prosecuted.

Okay, so I am a conservative Christian and I still think Dr Dobson is over the edge. I check out his show once in awhile and sometimes he has great parenting advice, but when he gets into political stuff, he truly goes off the deep end! I will say his book, The Strong Willed Child, got me through the late twos with my youngest. This issue is one of his huge hot button issues though, so I just have to turn the channel. Get a grip and stop obsessing already! (Aimed at Dr Dobson, not anyone here)

I made the mistake of picking up and reading book because I do have a very strong willed child. His advise and methods of systematically beating young children to force compliance made me sick. Not just with a hand. Not a just spanking. But hitting with belts and switches. The rod in one hand and the bible in the other. I feel sorry for any child who is raised with his methods.

My SIL has 2 kids under the age of 4 and they (and she) live with my in-laws. Sponge Bob, Care Bears, Teletubbies, Fairy Oddparents, and a few other shows are banned from the house because they promote sinful and unnatural behavior and acceptance.

Don't ask me why. I've seen plenty of spongebob episodes and I have yet to see Patrick with a collar and peepee leash and Sandy running after him with a spiked paddle. But to each his own. I just shrug my shoulders and thank goodness they live far away

I will not make any judgements on the video since I haven't seen it but I have to disagree with the assessment of Dobson as a fruitcake.

I applaud the work he does for family ministries and think he helps accomplish a great work.

Of course if his name is attached to any project, it will be praised by some (but not all) Christian outlets and likely blasted by the mainstream media with neither side objectively looking at it.

I think that Falwell's position on the Telletubbies is an excellent example. If I recall, he only mentioned a story and case that had been made by other people and placed it in his newsletter and everyone started saying that it was something he made up or concluded.

Besides, from what I've seen of Spongebob...I like him. Not that there's anything wrong with that......

I just saw the "We are Family" video on MSNBC. Spongebob is in it, but only for a few seconds -- it's mostly the Muppets, Sesame Street, and Arthur -- with appearances by Winnie the Pooh, Lilo & Stitch, Rugrats, Blues Clues, Barney and just about every current show on Nickelodeon and the Disney Channel. and no one was promoting an alternate lifestyle.

I am a Christian who has thought Dobson was over the edge since reading some of his literature about 15 years ago. I watch Sponge Bob pretty regularly and the only episode my kids aren't allowed to watch is the one where he says "I'm going to kick your butt" because we don't use that word at our house. I've never seen anything else objectionable on any episode.
