Why am I suddenly getting a rash from my wedding rings?

I havent read any of the responses.

But the same thing happened to me right around our 7th year of marriage. DH always joked I was "getting the itch". :rotfl2:

I tried a couple of different cleaners & the rash never went away.

I finally took my rings to the jewler for a really really good cleaning. They kept my rings for 2 days. And when they came back, the sparkled like never before.

I have been getting my rings cleaned twice a year since we were married (each time I get them inspected), but never like this.

After I got them cleaned like that, I never had a problem again (now we have been married 9.5 years).

So I suggest you take them to your jewler & have them do a major cleaning. There could be anything inside, something really tiny, but it is enough to annoy the skin on your finger.

I agree with having the jeweler clean them. And from now on, clean them periodically by soaking them in plain ammonia and water. Forget the commercial solutions. And no soap on diamonds - it just puts a film on them and builds up gunk in the setting.

This has happened to me every winter for the past few years. It started happeneing after I had the rings for 10 years. My wedding band and engagement ring are yellow gold. I realized that it wasn't just those rings that irritated my ring finger. I had to let it heal completely before putting anything on that finger. It took about 5 months. It was so painful and raw. I used Gold Bond powder on it and that was just about the only thing that worked. I have had my ring back on for 4 months and so far so good. It wasn't a new cleaner or that they were not cleaned, it wasn't a new shampoo, lotion, etc. I tried changing everything, but i think it's just my body chemistry.

AHHH! apparently you've hit a nerve!!! I can only wear my rings for a couple of days before it starts to come back. I have cleaned them with everything from alcohol to vinegar and stopped using lotions or washing my hands with them on I thought since it started post baby #2 (new dad, new rings) that maybe it was her lotion-no go. Basically I only wear them out and I told my husband that a platinum replacement was the only option also, that the diamond may not be big enough and that could be the culprit.
...t.

This started to happen to me, too. My rings are platinum. About 2 years into our marriage, I started to get a horrible rash. I've started taking them off in the house while sleeping and showering and hanging around the house cleaning and now I only wear them out. 100% improvement. No more rash. I guess my finger needs a break. :)

It could be your body chemistry changing. Have you changed your diet in any way? Are you eating lots of acidic things? Other indications of change in chemistry might include your underarms bothering you(being sore)from your deoderant and if you have pierced ears they might also ache. If it is just your ring finger and nothing else I would guess it is irritation related to soap, water etc. If any of the other things are there, I would be more likely to attribute it to body chemistry.

This started happening to me after 15 years of marriage! I was getting itchy red spots all over my body for weeks. I finally stopped wearing earrings, my rings, & any braceletsnecklaces. The itching stopped.

I still wear a watch out of necessity, but even have to take that off every few days due to the itchiness/redness that starts. I'm getting itchy just typing this.

This is so weird that this thread just came up!

I have been having this exact problem for about a month now. We are also coming up on our 7th anniversary... :scratchin ;)

This also has happen to me and my co-worker because of the soap @ work. I started using Aquaphor by Eucerin on my ring finger after getting out of the shower and it has stopped the rash. I told some of my co-workers about it and they also have had good results from it. It can be a little $$$ but well worth it.
