So, my husband wants to try a cruise. I am still resistant. I have never thought of myself as a "cruise" person. I don't know if its the "I'm STUCK on a boat" feeling or what. I am not claustrophobic or anything. Its hard to explain.

Help me to understand what makes DLC a cruise great choice. What made you like?

My DW is not a "cruise person" either, and is definitely not a "park person" but our DS6 wanted to do Disney. So we went for the 7 day Eastern cruise. She absolutely loved it and we are planning our next two cruises, one for the grown ups (RCCL) and the next Disney in January 2006 (western) once they publish dates. There is just something about being on the ship. This was my first cruise as well and I am hooked. I loved it. Maybe it's the service, you want for nothing, maybe it's the sea air and sun, maybe it's waking up to find a tropical paradise outside your verandah some mornings or the gentle motion of the ship while it cruises. You just have to experience it and you will know. If you have children the Disney experience is wonderful and they will love it just as much as you if not more. If not, there are plenty of people on these boards who can tell you they travel DCL and have no kids. Just try it. I recommend a verandah, but that is our choice. Coffee and a book as the sun rises... beautiful.

devine,
I don't consider myself a "cruise" person either and have NEVER desired going on one. And I'm still not going on one yet:mad: ; however, my mom is taking my kids. She is not a "cruise" person either so I will be very anxious to see if she gets a totally new personality after this!!!

For what it's worth, of all the people I've known who've gone on cruises, they have all come back as cruise-fanatics.

I think it's just something one must try to realize what it is all about.

My dh-2-be and I both spent years in the Navy and vowed to never get on another ship again. We just couldn't seperate between working 18 hours on a ship and going willingly for pleasure. My MIL booked a DCL cruise for the entire family and it wasn't until a couple weeks before leaving that I knew it was Disney.

I had never been to a disney park in my life and thought back only to the time that I went to six flags in Houston as a kid. Needless to say I wan't too excited to go to either. Well long story short I loved the parks beyond words. Then there was the cruise.

We have no children and worried about activites. We were overwelmed with things to do. We are not the type of poeple to do much on vacation but we couldn't help ourselves. It was WONDERFUL!!! I highly recommend it, not only for your family but for you.

I just sent you a PM, please check it out!!!

I was not a cruise person, and I was certain that my husband was absolutely NOT a cruise person. So we went on a 3 day, just to see what it is all about. Well that was last August, we went on a 7 day this past february, and are booked on another 7 day for next february.
Just try a short cruise and see if you like it. There is no feeling of claustrophobia on a ship, they are really big, and you are just completely pempered....

devine5829, if you are not a cruise person, what kind of person are you?

Do you enjoy beaches? Resort style vacations? Disney? Broadway Theater? Visiting places you have never been with rich cultures and histories? Do you enjoy wine tastings? Culinary diversity? Relaxing by the pool? Massages, pedicures, and manicures? Do you enjoy dressing up for a night of dinner and dancing? Being pampered and having your desires catered to? Sharing beautiful sunsets every evening with those you care for most? Playing with your children (if you have them)? Being a kid again (if not)? Seeing first run movies in a small town theater setting? Shopping??? (:p )

These are all things you do on a DCL vacation. The fact that you are at sea is a side note.

Thats all I got to say about that. :D

Also didn't think of myself as a cruise person. Got interested in it because once we had kids we started taking them on vacation with us - so far to Disney World - and its a lot of work to go to Disney with small kids. So I started looking for something low key where we'd get done with vacation without needing another one!

We also started with a four day - and have a seven day booked.

We really did enjoy it - we enjoyed the meals. We enjoyed drinking without driving. We enjoyed the sunshine. We were charmed by the ship itself - which is beautiful. We enjoyed dropping our kids in the club and soaking in the hot tub childfree. We had a blast at the sail away party (making me wish I'd had more energy to go to the tropical deck party).

There was plenty to do other than sitting by the pool (although as I've gotten older I've decided that has its charms).

I'm still not sure about the seven day. I wasn't quite ready to get off the ship, but it was starting to feel small to me. However, seven will allow more opportunities to get off the boat. My daughter after four days was overtired and overhyped (WDW gets them overtired every day, so they sleep well every night. Cruising happened at a more relaxed pace - so she never really got exhausted enough to sleep - until the last night when she slept through dinner), but hopefully by the time our seven happens, she'll be old enough to have learned a little self control.

Devine - My sister and I are not water people & we don't like boats, and the last thing we wanted to do was go on a cruise. In 2001 we were going to go on a trip for my parents 50th Anniversary. Cruising was brought up and my older sister, said No Way was she going. I would have gone on the cruise if everyone else wanted to go, but I wouldn't have been happy......we went to Myrtle Beach! Fast forward to August 2002 and DVC announces the Members Cruise. DH really wanted to go - and since he always happily gives into my wanting to go to WDW all the time, I decided to suck it up and go on the cruise. I decided to do it this one time and maybe he wouldn't want to go again for 10 or 20 years!!!! Feb 2003 and we are going on our 1st (and hopefully our last) cruise. We met with Dis people at the Radisson the night before and their excitement started to rub off on me (Thanks MarkRG and WDWLVR). We boarded the ship and I was IMPRESSED!!!!!!!!! Monday morning while we were eating our breakfast on our verandah watching the ship dock at CC, I realized that this 4 night cruise was going to be way too short of a time to be on this ship!!!!!!! After we got back I told my sister about the great time we had, I guess my excitement got to her, because she booked a cruise for October 2003 on the Wonder. A month later I decided we had to get back on that ship. We had a week planned at WDW in September and decided to use 4 of those days for a cruise. My sister changed her Oct cruise to September and the rest of our siblings and parents went too!!! All first time cruisers except us & my parents. Everyone had a GREAT time and we talked of going on another cruise in a year or so. I guess my sister had a great time because her and her husband booked another for February 2004. This is the same person who wouldn't even talk about going on a cruise. A week before her cruise she talked me and dh into going with them - so we went!!!!! 3 cruises within 1 year and I was definately hooked! The only problem was - they were all 4 night cruises and I wanted to go for at least a 7 night cruise!

I felt like you did - feeling trapped on some "boat". Well........a cruise ship is no boat - it's a floating city!!!!!!! There are so many things to do on the ship, and you can make your cruise as relaxing or as busy as you want it to be. We've done different things each cruise and there still are things we haven't done.

Trying a 4 night cruise will give you a taste of the cruising life. If for some reason you don't like it - it is over in 4 quick days. I do suggest to be prepared for "needing" to go on another cruise :teeth:

Gail

PS. we finally booked that 7 night cruise for Feb 2005 - hopefully it will be long enough!!!!!

Although he did not admit this until after our seven night cruise, my husband thought the cruise would be terrible. He now says it was the best vacation he could ever imagine. Very relaxing.

As you can tell by my user name I was very skeptical about cruising when I went on my first cruise on 4/8 with my 2 DD, age 11 and 13. I never thought cruising would be for me but now I can not wait to get back on the seas again. Give it a shot and have fun. Disney won't disappoint you. The best part for me was seeing my kids face light up during the shows and seeing characters throughout the ship. But on more practicle side of things was the whole Disney atmosphere where I never felt pressure to buy anything, even at Shutters, the crew was always friendly. The food in the dining rooms was fabulous. Our servers Faisal and George made dinner fun and doing the Limbo dance with them and the rest of the servers around Parrot Cay was a blast. The many different activities I could do or my kids could do and never be bored. As others said, being on your veranda and soaking up the sun and the sea. or maybe its just not wanting for nothing and having whatever you want. Snorkling ON CC with DD, or bike riding around the island. SOrry I am rambling but all I can say is try it. If you are worried take a 3 or 4 day cruise. I did and wish I booked a longer one. Enjoy

Just try it once and you will be hooked. An all-inclusive (almost anyways) vacation that allows you endless opportunites for sightseeing and relaxation. - Mike

Gail - You've got me blushing! We love infecting people with the cruise bug! You are going to love the 7 day!

Devine - you've gotten some great advice. I would definately try a cruise if I were you. Greysword did a great job of listing all the things there are to do - or you could go with my favorite and do nothing some days :fish:

We had never done a cruise before Feb. of this year (7-day western) on the Magic. Why did we love? Why should you go? Being on a cruise was THE most romantic thing we've ever done... So much time to just be a couple. No mall to go to. No phones. No 100 channels of tv. Slow walks at night or in the morning. Romantic dinners. A little wine. A little music. My wife loved it and so did I. We'll be back on a 7-day Eastern Disney cruise in April 2005. And we're off on a 7-day Alaskan cruise in July 2004!

The answer... It's romantic. (on the other hand, if you don't like your husband, then a cruise would suck...)

:sunny:

Here's just one example, my family. Our first cruise was the Eastern Magic in Oct. 2002. It was the vacation of a lifetime! My DH got re-certified in scuba for that trip, and 13 yo DD has since gotten certified too. DH thinks about scuba all the time, and DD loves it too. They got to scuba in Cozumel last Dec. when we tried another cruise line. They raved and raved about scuba in Cozumel. We had booked the 10 day Disney cruise this coming Dec., and I thought I would make the offer to cancel the cruise and instead spend a week in Coz. Guess what? No hesitation, they want to go on the Disney cruise! And it doesn't even stop in Cozumel. Diana
