Why am I having a hard time letting go of FD?

Ok...so I have a cabin booked with FD for the end of August. All along I have been hoping for a pin to get a discount off a room only. Well, as we all know that came out today...30% off moderates :cool1: This is ideal for my family. We are in the cabin, so we have a kitchen to cook and I LOVE grilling :goodvibes Not only that but I will have a just one year old and a 2 1/2 year old who still nap and go to bed fairly early. So do I reallly want to drag 2 young babies to a restaurant at a set time to make our ADRs??? Nooooo, probably not!

So even though I got what I wanted, why am I having trouble mentally getting rid of the FD plan, which I didn't even want to begin with? I plan on calling tomorrow to switch from FD to the room off code (if it is still available at the cabins). OOOHHH its going to be hard to cancel all those ADR's. All I plan on keeping is a breakfast at Akershus and Mickey's BBQ!

Tell me I am doing the right thing?????

I was having the same issue as we have been going down on fd for the past 4 years. This year we got the 40% pin. I booked it, when I calculate everything out, paying for dining and using the pin saved me over 400.00. So in the long run it is worth it.

it's ok, I think you just got caught up in the moment. Now that you have what really fits your needs don't second guess your decision. Think of all the good things that you will be able to do at the cabin!:flower3:

you'd probably be so stressed trying to work with the babies schedules and sometimes they just don't want anything to do with being in a restaurant. There's usually no reasoning with kids that are under 3, when they are tired! :thumbsup2

We are sort of in the same situation. Except I don't cook. We are staying at the values for the freedom of no adr's doing the QSDP. But since the room only dicount came out we can stay at AKL with the QSDP. What to do? We added the tickets to our pop fd reservation. But we have tons of tickets we should really use. So we could just get the 1 day pass at AKL.

Even though we are doing the QSDP we still kept 3 adr's. One is rainforest which isn't on the dining plan anyway. The other 2 our Norway princess breakfest and Garden Grill.

We're in the same boat as you, except without the kids. We love the cabins, and this is after being deluxe snobs ;)

We were in the CR last year for a week with a water view in the wing. Every time we saw the FW boat go by we remembered just how much we enjoyed staying there.

It's more like being in your own home than in a hotel. You have your car close, a nice size deck with picnic table, a full kitchen, AND housekeeping service. What more could you ask for? It's like bringing your house on vacation :)

As well, we pre-grill chicken, etc and cook, at most, twice. It's a pleasure to eat at our convenience and then go off and do what we'd like for the evening. You don't realize it, but you waste a good amount of time eating sit down meals.

Plus, IMHO, free dining isn't free, the restaurants are crowded, and the service is only so-so, and you're paying rack rate for the room. If you really want FD, I would recommend planning to use it for signature restaurants - they're not nearly as crowded since no one likes to "waste" 2 meal allotments on them.

I feel the same way. I agree with the PP that said that you got caught up in the hype. I certainly did. Last week I booked FD when it came out for DVisa members. Subsequently canceled it b/c I knew it was not the best deal for me. The idea of free food made it very appealing but after running the numbers and having to get a base ticket that I didn't really need, realized it wasn't really free. I am hoping to book a bounceback room only when I go to the World in 2-weeks or AP discount when its announced or a PIN I received. FD is great, but there are so many other offers available.

Your not alone! I feel the same way.. but my problem is I'm not even going this year! I just can't let go of the fact there is a deal out there I can't take advantage of!!

For you maybe it's because seeing the food in front of you every time you eat visually shows you all that you are getting for free. Where as with the room discount it's not as easy to visually see the savings. Does that make sense? There is something satisfying about having a plate of food in front of you and being able to think "hey isn't this great! We don't have to pay for it!"

If in the end the room code is a better deal for your situation just try and remember the bottom line!

I also had a hard time letting go of FD because it was free. And as a PP wrote, the room discount just doesn't seem as satisfying. So I wrote it all down. The cost of room, tickets and dining for each promotion and then I circled the savings. I even called and spoke to a very helpful CM who ran the numbers for FD and explained what I already knew - it wasn't the better deal for us. I know this sounds childish but after following the thread for a few weeks and getting caught up in the hype, I had a hard time convincing myself. Hope this helps. And BTW I still have that piece of paper with all the numbers, just in case!

Ahhhh....sanity returned :) You guys are the best! I knew it was the best deal for us, but as you all said, I did get caught up in the hype about free dining. FD is awesome! Just not for our family at this particular moment in time. I just got off the phone with Disney reservations (again lol) and switched FD to the 30% room discount. Thanks again! :goodvibes
