Saw this on ScreamScape:

"Whoville Monorail - Rumor - (11/15/01) Along with the info on Grinchmas ‘01, we have been told there is a push to adding a new feature for the 2002 Holiday Season and something that will finally bring the dormant Driving Machines track to life with the addition of the Whoville Monorail. Instead of the individual cars that would have caused problems durring an E-Stop, an enclosed Monorail style car would solve that problem and allow for the ride to open at last, but with a new theme. Of course, it’s all about money, so stay tuned"

This would be great news if true!

I don't think this is great news. I've wanted Driving Machines to open for awhile now, but not like this. An enclosed monorail would suck the fun out of it. The single open cars would be much better.

Anything is better than nothing, which is where we were headed.

How does having a monorail solve the emergency exit problem, other than there would be fewer points to have to get people down from?

Thats over a year away...with the rumor track record for this attraction, I wont hold my breath. I am just in hopes that at some point they open something there.

BTW...do they still run characters on the tracks? I dont recall seeing anything going back and forth when we were there in september.

Why not just run the existing cars around overhead with animatronic figures in them?
I've seen them do this occasionally, but it look great if the did it regularly.
HAVE FUN

I think they should keep the animatronic cars mixed in with the monorails.

Someone is spending too much time reading Screamscape. This is another bogus rumor. Think about it, what has an enclosed car got to do with solving any of the problems with that defunct system.

Well, it's harder for someone to jump out of a closed car. :) Seriously, I think the 'e-stop' issue is just an excuse by Universal because they don't want to spend any money to get the thing working. I just wish they would do something...ANYTHING, with those tracks!

Sorry, but jumping out of the car was never the issue. There have been many post on this subject before. The design of the track does lend itself to anything practical that's worth investing any money into. It's not an excuse, it's a fact.

If you like to complain about it, get down to the IAAPA show today and stop at the Severn-Lamb booth. Make sure to tell them what kind of idiots they are.

AND another concern of the ride was it's proximity to diners at Circus McGurkus. Some feared what unruly riders would do as they passed over diners.
For one I am glad that they have removed many Skyrides at theme parks. I know that the evacuation problem is what is the main reason for their closures, but I was felt like I needed to open up an umbrella as I walked under them for fear of what certain delinquents would do. YUCKKK!
Imagine the fear of eating with the same danger overhead.
Double YUCKKK!!!
I think that this may be the reason that some rumor-mongers suggest that the vehicles needed to be covered forgetting about the evacuation problem.
HAVE FUN

If anything, I would like to see a bunch of vehicles with animatronic characters run the circuit. It gives the island more ambiance and it's better than an empty track.

I was hoping the monorail would make cracks at the Disney monorail, especially the Spanish warning about doors closing. :)
