See the above post. We are driving Wed. beginning at 2:30pm...stopping for a hotel along the way, probably in north FL...should arrive at the port around 10:30am Thursday!
We both will have on our Castaway Cay t-shirts, mine is white, hubbies is navy blue!

Have a good flight!

Cindy thanks so much for the list. I will check for any updates tonight. Hope to see you at the port.

Kristie:wizard: :yay:

Aww thanks. Actually his b-day is in August, but we do not do Florida in summer. So we told him this is his early b-day present. Each kid for their 10th b-day gets a big vacation. (within Mom and Dad's price range of course LOL)

I want to post a photo of us so you guys know what we look like, but I am a newbie and can't cut and paste it, how do you do it? thanks!!

So now that we are back safe and sound we hope you all enjoyed your Disney Cruise!

I am going to report on our trip here rather than under the TR thread so here goes...

This was a first for us, in that I mean the cruise that almost did not happen...On Monday, Feb. 16th I got the stomach bug, the violent one! On the 17th I was hooked up to an IV due to dehydration and told the Dr. that we had a cruise booked for the end of the following week...I was concerned that we would have to cancel :sad1: but the Dr. reassured me that I would be fine...we did purchase the trip insurance so if we did cancel at least we would not lose money... the DH started feeling queezy on the 18th but never did get the 'bug'. We needed to make sure that we were 100% when we left on Wed. the 25th as we new that the DCL questions that they ask at check-in included have you been sick within the last 72 hrs...

The car we had planned to take for the drive from NC to FL was signaling the engine light on..so DH took it in for service...we decided to take mine just to be on the safe side...

DH drives me to work on Wed. and goes back home to pack the car and do some last minutes things...at 3pm we were on I-40 heading east to I-95 south! :yay: We were on our way!

The drive was not bad, traffic was pretty light then we got to SC and traffic slowed, as we are sitting on I-95 south in the median there are trees and shrubs and all of a sudden 3 deer jumped out of the woods and ran into the northbound traffic...the angels were looking after them that day! The first deer ran his butt off to the other side and narrowly missed a minivan...I bet that drivers heart was pounding! The other two deer turned around into the median wooded area.

So now it is getting dark out and I hate driving down I-95 thinking about the deer jumping out...but hey, that already happened! We get into Georgia and there is another slowdown from an accident. took about 10 minutes to get past that one...it looked pretty bad, an suv rolled over... we are now in FLORIDA :yay: Did I mention that I hate, I mean hate, going through Jacksonville FL on I-95..DH asked me if I wanted to take I-295 and go around but I said no, traffic was light and he was driving...but it had been a year since our last drive and the bridge to nowhere actually went somewhere! took them about 15 years to connect it to the other side...from what I could tell, and I am no engineer, but I think someone messed up because the bridge connectors were of different heights. If you have driven it recently then you know what I am talking about...

At 7pm I called WDW to see if they had any vacancies, they did and the rates were desent. But we were still quite a distance north and did not know if we would make it down I-4 or need a hotel sooner...we opted to keep going on I-95

So now it is getting late and I am tired..so we look for a hotel. We are past St. Augustine heading toward Daytona..at about 10:30pm we see an exit for a LaQuinta, which is about an hour and half north of the port. We take the exit and make a u-turn to where we saw the hotel. But there is no entrance and we ended up back on I-95 NORTHBOUND. So we drove north until we saw an exit that also had a southbound ramp and now we are heading south again...We find the hotel and check in...looked pretty much brand new. We were very satisfied...

Up next: Cruise Day!

We left the LaQuinta hotel around 8:45 am after enjoying a continential breakfast at the hotel...
As we drove down I-95 I was so excited. I could not wait to see the red stacks of the ship on the horizon as we drove over the bridge. We pulled into the port at 10:10am and was directed by an older man to pull up to the lady under the umbrella. This was not our first time driving to the port so we new the routine. Our porter was nice, why wouldn't he be, he works for tips! So we unload the car and DH goes to park it. So I take the carry-ons and head to the front of the terminal to take my many pictures of the cruise.
Seems we always take the same pictures but the sky color is always different. I think this was by far the best sky color ever!

picture003.jpg

After DH finds me and takes some pics with his camera we head inside to go through security. Wow that was quick! Took maybe 30 seconds in line and whoala we are standing at the bottom of the escalator.

At the top of the escalator we are greeted by these two very nice CM's. We got our card showing our boarding number: 6, which really stunk since we got there early .

picture022.jpg

After checking in at the Castaway Club Members area we are told to go have our picture taken. Well this was new for us since our last cruise in Feb 2008. But what a great idea. Can you imagine walking down the stairs by yourself and falling and not having your stateroom key on you to identify who you are...just check out the 2000 or so pictures that were taken! So we walked around for a bit and look who shows up:

picture024.jpg

So now the terminal was getting busy. We decided to head to the front where the ship can be seen from the outside patio area...the place where I told everyone too meet but it was reservered! So we decided to see what the new stateroom gifts looked like. We went into the 'store' and started chatting with an older CM behind the counter. He showed us the catalog of items and we choose the Minnie Gear for me and the Disney CD case and mini binoculars for DH. The CM asked if we first time cruisers and I told him no that we infact renewed our vows on the Wonder in 2006 for our 25th wedding anniversary. He asked when ours was and we said March 21st. He and his wife will be celebrating 40 years in May. Congrats to them... He called over another CM and said to wait just a moment..We were sprinkled with our first arrival of pixie dust...moved up to boarding #2!

We decided to stand off to the side incase any other Disers were looking for us and within 10 minutes, sneakypigs came by to say hello. We meet Kristy, Mike, Elaine and 5 yr old Courtney, who by the way was celebrating her birthday on Saturday! It was fun talking to them. Elaine even took a picture but I forgot to hand her my camera. So memory will have to do.

Our number is called and we get into the line, the line that was going nowhere...people where just standing around because they did not have the number being called! Get out of the way please, move to the side and let those who have the correct boarding number get by!

We get our welcome pic taken and are welcomed as we walk onto the ship. At this point it is 11:45am! Wow, this is the earliest we have ever boarded the ship. Off to Parrot Cay for lunch.

picture033.jpg

We knew that we needed to be careful of what we ate on this trip after being sick the week before. I took more pics of the food than actually eating anything. I had my usual, a small salad, some fresh fruit, a yogurt and a roll. I am sure I ate more than that but I can not remember. Maybe it will come to me later.

Oh yes, the dessert.

coming up next the sail away party and the rest of the first day...

Love reading the review. Sorry I didn't get to met up with you. We got a later start then I would have liked that morning since the kids were having so much fun in the ocean at our hotel. Then once we got on the ship everything went so fast and I swear we only did a quarter of the things on it. We had fun though and already are thinking for a 7 day in 2011 for our daughters 10th b-day!

Again, thank you for all the wonderful gifts that were put in the kids bags. They LOVED checking out the bags everytime we came back to our room!

So after lunch we decided to walk around deck 4, which is the deck that most people use to jog.
If you did not walk around deck 4 then you missed these..

It also has the very comfy teak lounge chairs! We played a few games of shuffleboard too. I thought my arm was going to dislodge from my shoulder. I had forgotten what it takes to move a disc from one end of the 'court' to the other. We did not keep score so after about 10 games I had called it quits. It was getting close to the time for the emergency drill so we headed back to our stateroom to get our life jackets. This time we had to go to Animators Palate...We were use to being out on deck so we had our sunglasses with us...so as we are heading to AP we had to walk down 2 flights of stairs and as you probably already know the stairs at the end of the ship are not as wide as midship and to top that off you have this orange growth attached to your front and can not see where you are walking! I had to hold onto the stair rail. I could not see the stairs or my feet or anything past that huge orange growth!! haha.

So after the drill it was time for the sail away party! :yay:
We are ususally up on deck 9 right in the middle so that we can get great pics of the characters and all the people dancing too. We both had new cameras and still trying to figure out the best settings for the pics, so I apologize in advance if the pics are not the best.

picture093.jpg

How many of you saw this:
picture082.jpg

This was taken as we were looking out towards NASA and just to the left of it, but quite a distance away.

We watched for the dolphins as we headed out of port, but unfortunately we did not see any this time around. We walked deck 9 to get the best of both worlds, looking for the dolphins and the folks on shore waving to us, probably wishing it was them on the cruise rather than sitting in their chairs!
picture054.jpg

This pics were taken with DH's camera. I am still trying to figure out how to get mine onto photobucket to share them with all of you.

As the ship made its turn into the open waters we watched from the back and said goodbye to Port Canaval, Hello Bahamas! As most people were heading back to their staterooms to get dressed for dinner we decided to walk the decks and check out the decorated doors! Wow, I could not believe it. I think we were the only 5 who decorated their doors with the exception of two doors decorated for Grads. Now that was disappointing! I had been bragging about the fish extenders for a while now and how so many people decorate their doors. And of course all those pics are on my camera which I have not figured out how to get on this post! Please be patient with me.

We had late dinner seating and we had decided to skip dinner and hang out by the pool, which we did. We ate pizza, chicken fingers and ice cream. It was perfect for us at the time! After eating we went back to our stateroom to freshen up and start unpacking. We hung our fish extender and separated all the goodies we bought. We grabbed the list and goodies and we were off to find those staterooms! We had to improvise for those that did not have a fish extender up the first night...goodies in a plastic bag tied to the door handle of the stateroom worked just fine! I just hope that they did not get stolen as we had heard from sneakypigs that kids had taken their door decorations off their door and skattered them on other doors up the hall.

We popped into the onboard shops to see what they had for merchandise that "I" just had to have! I am a collector of paper...and in that I mean pads of paper that have the year printed on them along with a pic of where we went. And since Disney is our second home, I have alot of Disney paper! I don't use it, I show it off in our Disney room at home. I was in luck, they had 5 or 6 to choose from! So I made my first big purchase of the cruise, 4 postcards, a magnet and a pad of paper!

When our son went off to college we turned his room in the Disney room.

Maybe we can meet up on the next cruise! I bet the kids loved the ocean at the hotel and even more at Castaway Cay! :beach: I agree, a three night cruise does go by fast but when you need a long weekend away this is the way to go.

We enjoyed putting the goodies in the bags. Glad you and your family liked them.

Now where did I leave off...

After a good nights sleep I awoke early to have the sun shining through the drapes. Ah, we were in the Bahamas. I woke hubby and we went onto the verandah to watch as we got closer to Nassau.

This was one of the first shore excursion we took on our first cruise, which was with Carnival. It's surpose to be an aquarium.

aquarium.jpg

I sure hope it is better today than it was over 10 yrs ago! So if you did this excursion let me know..I would be interested if they have upgraded it yet.

We watched as the ship got closer and closer. I was so excited to be away from all the stresses of life. Everything Disney makes you feel like your in a fairytale.

Then as we were getting ready to pull into the channel to dock I took pics of the lighthouse on the left side of the ship on the skinny island and of the yacht that is always there. Why have a yacht if you don't take it out onto the open seas! Must be their vacation home. Who ever they are they need to vacation more often!

And once again I am having problems downloading the pics...I will try again...be back soon.

Since we were up early its great to look off into the horizon and see such an icon rising out of the water.

Atlantissmall.jpg

And with each passing minute we got closer and closer

Atlantismedium.jpg

Until finally with the help of the zoom lense Atlantis appears as glorious as ever. I remember when there first tower was the only thing on Paradise Island.

Atlantis.jpg

Here is the pic of the lighthouse as we were heading into the Nassau port and after that pic is the tug boat guiding us!

lighthouse.jpg

tugboat.jpg

Its interesting to watch these small tug boats so close to the ship, one good wave and that tug boat would be history!

And now the yacht that is always there...

Yacht.jpg

We watched the ship turn around and basically back into the dock, well not literally, but you were there you all know what I mean. From our stateroom verandah we could see the men on the dock with the ropes to secure the ship. At one point we saw 7 men pulling the rope to the other side of the dock and securing it on the post. If you did not get a chance to walk deck 4 make sure you do on your next cruise. The ropes that they use are huge. You should be able to see it in one of my previous posts pics.

So now that we were docked, we showered and headed up to the buffet for breakfast. The food was pretty good. We must have gotten their at the right time as everything was hot.

Since we had already toured Nassau we decided to stay on the ship and head to the pool later that morning. I sat in the shallow area of the pool and hubby sat on the teak bench...the hot tubs were full so we chatted about the ride down and our first day and that we both did not want to eat to much for fear that our stomachs would react and not in a nice way. I know, cruises are for indulging on all the great food...but under the circumstances we opted out. We swam in the pool for a while until the sunscreen wore off, time for me to get out and find the shade!

Later that afternoon we went to the DVC meeting, in which hubby did not really want to go because we had done it so many times before..but we had an hour before our next thing to do so what the heck...we sat in the back of the room and listened to the sales pitch, which we could have said ourselves since we are already owners. They gave away prizes for those that answered first and my second sprinkle of pixie dust had arrived...Question was: How much did it cost to stay at the Contemporary Resort when it first opened in 1971?? I answered $29 per night, but the correct answer was $33 per night...I won a softsided cooler bag with the DVC logo...Then at the end of the sales presentation they had a drawing for a $300 onboard credit...and here comes PIXIE DUST AGAIN! Yup, they called my name...I was so excited... Since we are owners the sales rep asked if we wanted to say anything so I stood up and told those who were interested about our first DVC purchase and how we have used our DVC points and what the virtual cost of our trips over the last 10 years would have cost us...

If anyone is interested in how DVC works and you dont want to talk to a sales person right now feel free to PM me. I will try to answer your questions.

So now it was dinner time and we opted for room service...our DD had ordered room service 2 yrs ago while we went to Palo's and she seemed to enjoy it so we decided to give it a try...we placed our order and they said it would be delivered in about 20 minutes so hubby went to take a shower. I thought I would head up to deck 9 to get our sodas but within 10 minutes there was a knock on the door..room service had arrived...so I told hubby to stay in the bathroom and I let the CM in...he placed the food on the table and after I tipped him and he left I went to get the sodas. Love those little salt & pepper shakers!
Lets just say that when we were finished and placed the tray outside our stateroom door there were a few things missing...oops...

Along the way I saw a the most well behaved four legged friend on the ship.

servicedog-1.jpg

We saw this service dog and their human counterparts a few times on the cruise...I think their stateroom was down the hall from ours because we saw them more than once.

Ever wonder where the dog does his bathroom duty...well there is a disser who has a service dog, and this may be her/him, who has posted pics on the boards about this topic...DCL provides a small kids size pool and puts sod in it...pretty neat idea.

BTW each time we went to our stateroom we always saw our stateroom hostess, Sylvette, from the Caribbean.
Sylvette2.jpg

No matter what time is was, 6am, noon or 11pm she was always working. We conversed with her on several occasions and she has been working with DCL for 9 years. Gotta love ya job for 9 yrs! She said she gets about 4.5 hrs of sleep a night. She did have a 3 hr break today and actually got off the ship to have lunch in Nassau.

We also checked out our fishextender each time we returned to our stateroom...
myfe.jpg

We received our first gifts from our dis friends from Argentina...Thank you for the key chains.

Once we headed out of Nassau we went to the Walt Disney theatre to see Toy Story..this was a first for us as we had seen Hercules, the Museical in past cruises. I loved Toy Story. I was amazed at the size of the toys, Mr Potato Head and the remote control car and the all the toys. I thought they did a great job in telling the story in 45 minutes. The cast was very good too.

Now it was time to go shopping. We created a list of what we were interested in purchasing along with the cost. The onboard credit could be used for anything that you put on your key to the world card..drinks, shore excursions, etc. But this was to be a relaxing cruise for us and we did not plan any shore excursions, been there, done that in Nassau! We did get some nice gift for our kids and grand-daughter.

It was getting close to midnight at this point and we needed to make another round delivering our gifts...so off to our stateroom and who do we run into, Sylvette! Doesn't that girl ever sleep??

more pics to come....
