They always ordered a Diet Coke with their supersized #4 Double Quarter Pounder with Cheese Extra Value Meal.

/QUOTE]

I have friends who are hypoglycemic and diabetic and always order a diet coke as they cannot have sugar.

Yes!!!! I'm tired of people giving me looks when I order a Diet Coke with my ice cream sundae!

As for the movie...the only thing I'll eat at McDonald's anymore are the sliced apples.

I hate that too! My DH is a diet soda drinker at all times because he doesn't like the taste of regular soda.

Or when I was on Weight Watchers, I'd save up my points for something yummy when I went out to eat, but then order a diet so I wouldn't waste points on a drink. If any of you know the points system, a large Pepsi can be 5 points -- I'd rather use those points towards a big burger!

I have heard about this too, but I'm curious to see WHAT she ate there. I'm having a hard time thinking of a breakfast, lunch, and dinner from McDonald's that would be under 1500 calories

I think she had like an egg mcmuffin for breakfast (those aren't too bad) and drank only diet sodas or water so they didn't add any calories. Plain burgers are not that bad either ( I always eat them that way). It can be done but you have to be very smart about it. Sometimes, I will eat a kids meal just to cut down on calories (especially when I'm craving their frys!!!)

You would have to eat the salads minus the cheese and dressings, and perhaps a grilled chicken breast pulled out of a sandwhich coupled with Diet Coke or water. IMHO, that's *not* really McDonald's food and definitely not the way they intend you to eat it. McDonald's salads are premade, and the sandwiches come with all the fixings. It's not a buffet line to make your own creation.

I think it could be done, but you're right, it's not the way we're intended to eat. I don't believe either extreme (1500 calories vs 5,000 calories) are at all realistic.

Although, McD's does have some decent choices -- I always loved the fruit & yogurt parfait as a dessert or breakfast. I've never really gone for their salads, but I bet some of them are okay. The kids' meal with hamburger is a good choice. I think a McChicken with no mayo is also a decent choice. But fries? Big no no! :guilty:

just curious - who's watched it and what did you think?

Watched it, loved it. Cut back on fast food because of it. We were eating it too much.

I have energy now. I honestly never dreamed that fast food made drained you of energy but it did for me.

we saw it a few months ago and loved it. As a teen I worked at a McDonalds, too, and it was shocking what some people eat. We still do get McDonalds every once in a while, but honestly I usually just get a cheeseburger, same with the kids, and I never get fries or anything else. If dh picks it up he'll throw a small fry onto the order, but a small split several ways isn't all that bad once in a blue moon.

Just remember to cut the granola and get the snack size or you'll have more calories than the ice cream sundae on the menu.

I think it was the extreme, but the point was to take the judge's ruling that if eating McDonalds could bve proven to adversely affect your health, the paintiffs might have a case.

Even if he had eaten fewer calories, the amount of fat would still have been able to turn his liver into pate (sorry -- can't ever remember how to put the mark over the "e" on the keyboard!)

It was an extreme experiment in order to wake people up to what they are eating, not to make them swear off McDonalds forever.

Reminds me of the quote by Flannery O'Connor:
"For the almost blind you must draw large and startling figures."

I watched, and thought wow, I'll never eat McDonalds again! Then I thought about it -the guy was consuming fries, burgers and cokes in very large portions every single day - of course you're going to get sick and fat. You can do that to yourself at home -eat ice cream and fries every day, or any other resteraunt for that matter. It's very one sided and to the extreme, but does give you something to think about.

I saw it last year, I nearly upchucked during that gastric bypass or whatever it was. I can't even think about it. I've eaten Mcdonalds ONCE since, and as soon as I took a bite ALL of that movie started coming back to me. I don't think I could watch it again if I HAD to.

I think the movie was OK but a bit overly dramatic. I doubt that very many people eat like that if anyone actually does and it was all just was too one-sided for me.

It's possible to eat "right" at McD's and I've done so for years. Even eating the unhealthy stuff won't kill you in moderation. My problem is sweets. :(

Me and DH have always wanted to watch this movie. Do you think it's OK to watch it with kids that are 7 and 9?
