And that wacky Conrad Hilton-I wonder if they had to get an "OK" from the Hilton family to show a real person , as himself, on the show?

Conrad HIlton is dead... so no case for defamation of character. He's been dead for quite some time. And well, if the eccentricites are "true", it sure beats Paris Hilton's shenanigans.

Anyone other than me find it ironic that the women at the fundraiser were discussing segregation and how horrible the South was as the black housekeeper is walking up to take the tray from Betty?

Of course that was sure planned. Remember how Betty also said to Bobby that "Carla works for me and not for you", and how Betty upon observing that Carla was listening the radio about the Birmingham bombings that is was "her station".

Carla is a great character. Sure she knows what to do, but she has some fantastic lines.. especially one with Gene a few episodes ago which said something like "I don't know every black person".

In that time frame, in that area, all housekeepers were African American. I've seen many pictures of upper class families in old 50's and 60's and the staff were all African American. It's really not necessary to point out the race since it is the "norm"

In my own perfect world, I would love to see Joan, Sal, Peggy and even Pete start their own little ad agency and compete with Sterling Cooper.

But I think the show is very true to how things were back then-as far as no gays were "out" yet-esp in mainstream business place.

As far as the housekeeper, I think civil rights will play more prominatly in future episodes, so that ought to give Carla more to say.

I was amazed she didn't say anything last night when Betty said she didn't think now was a good time for civil rights, but I didn't expect her to say anything. You're listening to a funeral service for innocent children, how do you stop fighting for civil rights?

I hope Sal's not gone. I was so mad watching the way Don treated him after Roger fired him.

Exactly. The show is a microcosm of the the way the 60s were. Homosexuality had not come out of the closet yet. Sex crimes were more about the victim than the perpetrator and civil rights was just gaining steam. Northerners tended to be closet racists, as Betty shows by acting sympathetic on one hand, but reminding Carla of 'her place' on the other. Office place behavior was unfettered, no such thing as sexual harassment or other unprofessional behavior in the work place.

For those of us who lived through the 60s, Mad Men is a wonderful reminder of how far we have come.

I finally got around to watching this past Sunday's episode last night, and all I have to say is...wow. Each segment was outstanding. So great to see Joan again - I can't wait to see how that storyline develops.

And how perfect was the last line of the episode, when they were out trick-or-treating: "And who are you supposed to be?"

This is why it wins Emmy awards.

PS - So, Caldecott Farms...Kal-Kan, anyone?!

Silly me, I fell asleep about 15 minutes into the show. Thankfully, we have it recorded on the dvr so I'll probably watch it sometime tonight.

I cannot believe next week is the season finale. How many episodes does that make it for their season? This is one of the top rated telivision shows. Clearly they need to lengthen their season.

I'm a tv-aholic, and this is by far my FAVORITE show. Maybe because I was a child of the '60s, but it all seems so "real" to me. The Kennedy assasination episode was perfect, each character reacted in a completely appropriate way to the event. The men are men, the women are women, and I can't believe we only have one episode left!

Remember back to the Junior League meeting? The older lady attending knew that Francis was a player; he apparently has a rep a mile wide, but Betty doesn't want to see that. He's bad news all around, and all this courtly love hooey is a facade.

Roger is really regretting Jane about now.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to next week; from the previews it looks like we'll be spending more time on the business of advertising. (And that Aquanet ad is doomed. Two couples in a convertible?)

Jon Hamm is an amazing actor. You can see in his eyes that he has let his guard down with Betty now that his secret is out and is really loving her and trying to connect with her - and she is pulling away. January Jones is great too. It is really sad to see the inside of such a tragic relationship. But it is an amazing show and great TV!

Hope Joan is back. I love that character.

I love this show!! I just started watching last year and think I need to rent some to catch up. My favorite line from last week was where Don tells Betty to take a pill and go to bed. I wish my DH would allow me to do that
