Who's ready for 'Mad Men'????? {spoiler discussion}

Patio was a real drink... who the heck would have tasted something named after outdoor furniture..

I thought it was a fantastic study in contrast with Ken's group.. singing and dancing along (ever so slightly) with Ann Margret and Pete's group was all old men talking about demolishing a landmark. Notice when Pete wants to impress the old money he pulls out the Dyckeman family name...

Good job Peggy.. for being assertive at the bar. The Peggy of Season one was very different in many ways. I wondered why she played down her career infront of the college boy though.

Now we know that Betty's dad is just a recipe for disaster in that home. I would not be suprised if he passes away soon. And Betty.. stop feeding that baby just nictoine and alcohol!

Notice that everyone is just so mad at Roger.. he just isn't the life of the party anymore.

I think that Gene's getting to keep the Lincoln is key to what will happen next with that subplot, and Don being Don, he probably insisted on that detail for calculated reasons. Five will get you 10 that Gene kills himself in a car wreck sometime soon.

As for Peggy downplaying her career, she did it so that he wouldn't feel threatened by her. She was already obviously older than he was; she didn't want to scare him off by making it obvious that she has a lot more money than he does. (I'm old enough to remember when just about all of us played that particular game when meeting men.)

I remember in Season 1 Peggy went on a blind date and basically scared the guy away talking about her Madison Avenue job. She's definitely learned since then. I noticed she also took the same joke Joan used about the subway and used it in the bar.

I noticed Roger referred to Joan as Mrs. Harris....which means ugh, she married that creep.

I read in the Tivo preview for next week (SPOILER!!) that Gene is going to have some kind of run-in with little Sally Draper. Yikes, that could get ugly.

I looked up Patio! And then thought the same thing... odd name for a beverage!

The whole An Margaret thing was weird to me.... I was completely backing up Peggy, because that whole movie scene was annoying beyond belief.

Finally!!! It took two season plus two additional episodes but finally, a scene with Peter Campbell that didn't give me the ick factor. I loved watching Peter and Trudy dancing!

Joanie and her musical instrument was hilarious as well.

It will be interesting to see if the guy Don made the drink for shows up in a later episode.

I agree... the dance scene with Peter and Trudy rocked. That was awesome!!

The guy that Betty talked to when she was waiting for Trudy... what was up with that? I was kinda lost.

The little girl who plays Sally is a good actress.

I loved this episode. It really showed the versatility of the cast (who knew Joan Hendrick could weild an acordion?) as well as character depth.

First, this episode showcased class structure and money in so many ways. We have the whole Princeton vs. Michigan vs. Ms. Deavers secretarial school in the creative dept as well as Harry vs. Pete in the country club circle. Also look at the three "degrees" of doctors in Joan's dinner party... the chief of surgery, the better surgeon and Joan's dr. hubby.

Finally think about Carla, the Draper's maid. Carla instead of Gene is what holds that family together. I loved how Carla told Gene something to the effect of that she doesn't know every black person. The blackface Al Jolson act played by John Slatterly was well shocking but that was higher class entertainment at one time.

Connie being Conrad Hilton could be very true-- it is historically close. As for that gentleman talking to Betty, he was just turned on by her beauty and well was blinded by the martinis.

I didn't catch that - it is on again ronight, I'll have to watch again. That is the problem with this show, I have to watch it more than once to catch everything. It is soooo well written I forget I have to really pay attention.

Ok -so Harry and his wife are not of the upper crust as Pete and his wife, although Pete's wife was super jealous of their baby.

But when pete and his wife are doing the elablorate dance-with everybody watching-i saw Harry's wife looking mad and stormed off. I guess from the attention they got?:confused3

The elaborate dance was the Charleston. That was also shown during the movie "Its a Wonderful Life". This shows that Pete and Trudy were the cotillion/debutante dance circle and well Harry and Jennifer are not. Remember Jennifer (Harry's wife) actually worked in Season 1 and 2 and well Trudy does not look like she ever worked but went to college to get her Mrs. degree.

Ahh.I see.

I also rememeber Trudy having the meeting with the ladies from The Metropolitan Museum last week, so she's getting into that crowd.

Last nights highlights:

The What The "heck" moment-Sally calmly driving down the street. BTW-this is a lovely little actress.

The "Uh-oh Moment-when Sal's wife Finally realized she married a "Nellie".;)

Uptight Peggy trying to act like a "Joan" to snag a cool roomie in the City;)

I am addicted to this show because it is so "off" :rolleyes1:rolleyes1

Love the actress that plays Sally.:dance3::dance3:

Can Betty ever have a humorous moment?????

What a great episode last night. I felt like the previous ones were a bit slow, but last night I felt like the show was back! I felt so sad for Sally.

Kitty's look on her face while Sal was acting out the commercial was priceless. Loved Peggy's I told you so look to Don when the Patio commercial tanked.

Let's see... Granpa Gene was kind to Sally and this could be a huge problem with Sallly later. I want to know if Granpa Gene collapsed in line at the A & P, how did the peaches get into his car?

Lets see.. Peggy's roommate is going to give her a run for her money. And Betty.. have the baby already.. it looked like you were have septuplets!

Yeah, Betty is HUGE. That's crazy.

Poor Sally :( That was heartbreaking... but I was surprised by the way they killed him off.

Peggy rocks... and I also loved her "told you so" look. I'm not sure Don was that surprised by the outcome, though. I felt bad for her when she was at her mom's house.

As a new viewer of the show, I love how they are "themed"

This week's undercurrent was about parents: Betty/Gene, the rich guy with his Jaii-Lai obession and his dad, Peggy and her mom etc.

Last week's episode about "social classes" etc.

I am really, really loving this show!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
