I am. I don't understand this whole strike thing. The fact that they knew about it last year. And that it's just going to go on. They'll just shut down hockey for a year or two or three???

Fortunately for me, I live in Boston and go to Northeastern, so hockey is alive and well here.

NU, BC, BU...lovely rivalries.

Hey, it's not the NHL, but does the NHL have bands at their games? Or cheap, good seats?

Luckilly I get to see college hockey in person almost every week.

Guess I should start going to the Boardwalk Bullies games. At least I can afford them, unlike the Flyers. Can anybody explain the strike to me?

We have some hockey here too. But I miss the NHL and the AV's.

I miss it somewhat.

However, my son plays travel hockey Mite A and their team is very good this year. We travel all over the tri-state area to compete.

We also have an AHL team and a very competitive high school hockey teams in our county.

I love hockey, but I would rather see the non-pros play rather than the pros. It's much more spirited.

If you don't have AHL nearby, may I suggest you call your nearest rink and ask them when the next high school or college rivalry game is playing. They are very exciting and the kids go crazy for it.

I'm OK for now because I have Sports ADD and tend to focus my attention on only 1 sport at a time.

Right now my focus is on Nascar, after that's over I'll move to Football, then after the Super Bowl I move on to hockey. So basically come early Feb, I'll be missing it terribly.

*sigh* I am. It's difficult enough being a hockey fan in California, so this makes it really hard! Not that we went to very many Sharks games, but we watched them every time they were on TV & DH would watch any NHL game. I guess we'll scout the TV listings for college games (not that there are any colleges around here who play, but there might be some games on cable.)

I agree. My dad promised me tickets to a Rangers and an Islanders game if the strike didn't happen since I enjoy hockey, which would have been fun, but I still prefer college.

Much more intimate, much more spirated, and much more personal. The boys on the ice just WANT that win.

I started on hockey watching my high school boyfriend, who played travel (and usually resulted in me traveling along with them). It got me hooked.

Yay! College Hockey Fans!

(I managed to see about 25 games (in person) last season, which isn't bad, considering I went to a school that didn't have varsity hockey, and the nearest varsity team was 2 hours away)

As far as the NHL strike ... it's pretty simple really. The players think they're not getting paid enough. The owners think they're paying the players too much. They can't agree to a contract, the players won't work without a contract, so they're on strike. (Or lockout, whichever term you prefer, they're basically the same thing)

We have a guy from NU playing on the Sharks, Jim Fahey.

Over here we have some college games on TV, but they're all the Hockey East games for the most part on NESN (New England Sports Network, I believe)

A little - we tend to focus on college hockey more anyways, thank goodness that's around! :)

Chris misses it. For Halloween costumes at work, he dressed up as an out of work hockey player. He had his jersey and a sign that said 'WILL STICKHANDLE FOR FOOD'.

Is that the game they play with a round rubber disc?:p

Not me... football is the only sport that matters of the 4 major sports. I would rather watch bowling or volleyball.... especially women's beach volleyball!!!::yes:: ::yes:: ::yes::

Its killing me! I miss my Bruins!
We will be going to a couple minor league games this year, but its just not the same. Gonna be a loooooong winter. :(

Wow, it is good to see that so many people do miss hockey. I miss hockey for two reasons, one is because I work for a hockey arena and so does my husband and the other is because I love the sport.
Like the rest of you I have to also go watch the college teams play which is a lot of fun. The good thing about the these games is that when I take my children to them the college boys talk to them and interact with them. My children think that this is great.
But the NHL is sadly missed in our house. Hopefully they will get the wake up call that they need and start playing again before my kids are all grown up.:goodvibes

I do miss hockey. However, luckily for me I still have college hockey game to go to. I go to UNH so, like Evil Princess, I have some big Hockey East rivalries to look forward to. Not to mention the band and our oh-so-creative cheers :teeth:
As long as professional hockey is back by the time I graduate here, I think I'll survive.

Ice is for cooling your drink. :)

Actually, I was never much for hockey. If I was, I would be watching College Hockey. At least they still play to play.

Go UNH!

Ted

I live in the North East and if anyone has a team (96 year) - Mite's. We are Travel A Mites.

We would love to play you (even on our ice or yours). We have some canceled games in December and would love to play.
We have ice time on Friday evenings and Saturday mornings.

We play in MASS, RI, CT, NY, NJ and PA - we'll travel or come up and see us - I will also try to get you extra games with other teams in my area, so you don't travel for one game.

Please email me at: laurajean1014@sbcglobal.net

Thank you, hockey fans.
