Who's in for GREECE and TURKEY, June 15 2003????

So close! I think we need food for thought. How about a question game...
Anyone up for it? :grouphug:

5) How will you dress for pirate night?

Sounds fun :)

1) When does your vacation begin? (out the door, flight, Spain, boarding...) - 11 more sleeps from now!

2) What are you most looking forward to tasting? Creme Brulee Cheesecake, and Mickey Rice Krispy Treats and the warm sea air

3) What is your favorite secret that you know or have heard about on the Magic? Can't tell you. :)

4) Which port are you most excited about? La Spezia (Cinque Terre) Least? Barcelona

5) How will you dress for pirate night? One leg at a time - arrrr!

6) What one thing do you wish you'd known before your first cruise? Can't think of anything because the DISers on our first Roll Call thread got us up to speed!

7) Most irrational fear about this vacation? That it only exists in an alternate reality and I'm not in it

8) Most rational fear about this vacation? That we'll miss the ship coming back from a non-DCL-sponsored day in port

9) What moment are you most looking forward to? Dancing a jig in the office parking garage when I leave work on the last day before vacation starts

10) Who are you most looking forward to meeting/seeing? I know it's cheesy to say "each of you" but that's true - I have so enjoyed getting acquainted over these last nearly 18 months. And Mickey and Minnie (I want to get a picture of her in each of her outfits!) and the Queen of Hearts (my inner villian).

Looking forward to reading everyone else's replies!

OK I'm in - see my replies below:

1) When does your vacation begin? (out the door, flight, Spain, boarding...)
June 13 - just after lunch when we start our 3 hour drive to the airport ( I have to work in the morning - yuck)

2) What are you most looking forward to tasting?Everything! I have been dieting for the last two months in anticipation of blowing it for the three weeks we are away!!!

3) What is your favorite secret that you know or have heard about on the Magic?Looking forward to trying the cookies and milk - we never had a chance last time - too much food!

4) Which port are you most excited about? If I were really honest here, I am most excited about our time in Paris after the cruise - that was a bit of a surprise bonus with the way flight deals worked out and it's one of my favourite cities in the world. But on the cruise, I am most excited for Mykonos because I am dying to see the iconic white buildings/blue roof/blue sea combo. Least? Malta I guess, but I'm happy for them all

5) How will you dress for pirate night?Just a bandana and earrings for me probably - boys will have hats. Not bringing their full costumes.

6) What one thing do you wish you'd known before your first cruise? How much fun being part of the FE group is! Had a great time figuring out what to do and making the gifts at FE, really looking forward to exploring the ship and seeing everyone else's.

7) Most irrational fear about this vacation? It was missing the boat - so we went with lots of DCL excursions - not that I couldn't have booked something on our own.

8) Most rational fear about this vacation? That my kids will be bored/grumpy/sick/whiny and DH will get annoyed and I will have to wait MANY years before doing another family trip to Europe!

9) What moment are you most looking forward to?Getting to the top of the Leaning Tower in Pisa with my kids

10) Who are you most looking forward to meeting/seeing?I'll be cheesy like nzdisneymom and say all of you! But I'm especially hoping that my boys will meet some good friends and have kids from other places they can keep in touch with

Thanks - that was fun!

We leave in 5 days!!!!!!!:banana::banana: We will be heading to London on 6 June. I am ready. We start packing tomorrow.

Fabulous! I love when folks start heading out because that makes it seem so very real! We loved London. How long are you there before heading to Barcelona?

Who is going to Florence? We were sad to learn that the Accademia and the Uffizi will be closed that day (Monday). So sad, that we are staying overnight in Florence. We will see David and then the Uffizi on Tuesday morning, catch a train to Rome, check out the Vatican Museums, then rejoin the ship! Our daughters should be exhausted from that!

Have you talked to DCL about this? We really, really wanted to do this because we wanted to stay the night in Rome. When our TA called DCL she was told absolutely no. I even asked her to call again. Had something to do with security in the port. Specific to La Spezia. My dd wanted to just pretend to miss the ship but I was worried that there would be other trouble. I'll be really sad if you were able to get permission and we missed out by not calling DCL directly. Happy for you though. It's a great idea and really easy to do.

We are in London for 5 days, and then Paris for 3. Taking the high speed train to Barcelona on 14 June. We get to Barcelona around 2 pm. Then we are staying in Barcelona 2 days after cruise.

1) When does your vacation begin? (out the door, flight, Spain, boarding...)
As soon as I start packing the car.

2) What are you most looking forward to tasting?
Any of the food in Italy.

3) What is your favorite secret that you know or have heard about on the Magic?
I would say surprises ... taking a shower in the Spa :) Planning to do that, they are so much nicer than our cabin showers.

4) Which port are you most excited about? Least?
Kusadasi...just unknown territory with language which I cannot learn quickly...

5) How will you dress for pirate night?
Patch, bandana, pirate dress, boots, etc. We love pirate night.

6) What one thing do you wish you'd known before your first cruise?
Inside cabins are the least expensive and I can always go to the top deck to see us glide into each port in the morning.

7) Most irrational fear about this vacation?
Missing the boat... it's a vacation right? ;)

8) Most rational fear about this vacation?
Missing the boat. All must stuff is on the boat.

9) What moment are you most looking forward to?
Everything!

10) Who are you most looking forward to meeting/seeing?
Everyone!

1) When does your vacation begin? (out the door, flight, Spain, boarding...)

Wheels up from Iraq. It will not be a simple process, and it's long, and I hope that the country is not in all out civil war by that point.

2) What are you most looking forward to tasting?

fruity frozen drinks in the afternoon.

3) What is your favorite secret that you know or have heard about on the Magic?

the deck seven secret deck. i forgot about it, and it turns out our staterooms are right down the corridor from it. My mom will enjoy the peace there.

4) Which port are you most excited about? Least?

Love Mykonos. We've done Rome a bunch of times, so maybe least looking forward to Civitavecchia.

5) How will you dress for pirate night?

pretty full-on pirate

6) What one thing do you wish you'd known before your first cruise?

To get a cabin near the drinks station (morning coffee runs). Skip the sail away and hang out on your verandah with a drink and watch the port slip away peacefully (I know, not for everyone). The midnight (or 10:30) buffet after the fireworks on Pirate Night.

7) Most irrational fear about this vacation?

That my kids won't really be surprised at the reveal that we're getting on the Magic.

8) Most rational fear about this vacation?

That I won't get out of Baghdad in time to make it on the ship.

9) What moment are you most looking forward to?

Stepping onboard and smelling that unique DCL ship smell. (weird, huh?)

10) Who are you most looking forward to meeting/seeing?

My boyo's, all three of them, when they pick me up at the airport in Amsterdam. Can't wait to be covered in little boy hugs and snuggles...

1) When does your vacation begin? (out the door, flight, Spain, boarding...) - check-in at Dulles airport

2) What are you most looking forward to tasting? Mushroom risotto at Palo (everything at Palo)

3) What is your favorite secret that you know or have heard about on the Magic? Nobody tells us anything.

4) Which port are you most excited about? Mykonos Least? Villefranche

5) How will you dress for pirate night? nothing special...love to see everyone else's costumes though

6) What one thing do you wish you'd known before your first cruise? Can't think of anything because we found Disboards before we cruised the first time.

7) Most irrational fear about this vacation? That we will miss the ship even though we are on all DCL excursions.

8) Most rational fear about this vacation? Lost luggage

9) What moment are you most looking forward to? Seeing the 'Welcome Home' sign as we board the Magic in Barcelona. She really feels like home to us after so many wonderful nights spent sailing on the Magic.

10) Who are you most looking forward to meeting/seeing? Still love the Princesses and of course Mickey and Minnie.

Hi! I have not received any additional updates or changes to the FE listing. I never heard from long_time_cruiser so I'm not sure if they are sailing with us or not. I've left them on the FE listing at the end with GTY.

I will bring a list for updating to the meet on embarkation day.

Kind regards,
Lynda

Ratsola!! And thank-you very much!! I called DCL today, and you are absolutely correct. We are not allowed to get off at La Spezia and back on at another port. That is some regulation specific to La Spezia; you can do this with any other port.

Like you, I would be tempted to miss the boat, but I would feel bad about breaking the rules in that fashion. Well, time to rethink everything.

Anyone up for it? :grouphug:

1) When does your vacation begin? (out the door, flight, Spain, boarding...) June 13th when we leave Detroit airport.

2) What are you most looking forward to tasting? Paella in Barcelona

3) What is your favorite secret that you know or have heard about on the Magic? Mickey Bars. Not much of a secret around here! :rotfl:

4) Which port are you most excited about? Least? I am the most excited about Athens. I have never been there, and I love Greek mythology. I am the least excited about La Spezia. We have been to Pisa. Florence is very far away and the Uffizi and Accademia are closed on Mondays. The Cinque Terre are beautiful, so we will take the girls to them.

5) How will you dress for pirate night? White shirt with some very understated tiny ruffles, bandana. You will know me by my bad joke involving a wardrobe prop.

6) What one thing do you wish you'd known before your first cruise? How awesome DCL is; then my first cruise would have seven years earlier.

7) Most irrational fear about this vacation? I am far too foolhardy for fear.

8) Most rational fear about this vacation? Credit card bill at the end. :lmao:

9) What moment are you most looking forward to? Stepping onboard.

10) Who are you most looking forward to meeting/seeing?
I am hoping one of our favorite maitre'd's for Palo will be onboard.

Sorry to hear you weren't successful but glad you have time to rethink instead of finding out lasts minute. Good luck with your planning - there are still lots of really cool places around La Spezia. And now you have to plan another trip to Italy to see David and Uffizi - well worth the trip.

Indeed! My wife and I have seen both, and they are spectacular. I wanted to take my girls. I am very grateful to have not found out at the last minute. Now I changed our afternoon tickets at the Vatican to a guided tour in the morning.

My wife and I enjoyed the Cinque Terre when we were in Tuscany, so hopefully the girls will, too! Or maybe I will last minute change my mind and we will go to Lucca. Hard to say. We are fortunate to have so many good choices.

Really, we are amazingly lucky to be able to travel Europe, let alone to do it with DCL!

Does anyone know if the current Turkey's unrest will affect our port?

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/06/01/istanbul-protests_n_3372059.html

I have a colleague who is from Turkey, and she assures me that Istanbul is far, far away from Ephasus, which she says is a port/tourist town and unlikely to be "political".

Another topic:
Are there any 18 - 21 year olds on our cruise?
Our DS just turned 18, and thus, aged out of the Vibe.
He is unsure of how to meet people and what activities there are for him. He's a bit on the shy side as well.

I'm encouraging him to at least go to the first "Club 18 -21" meet, but he might be more comfortable if he knew someone else, like a DIS'er.

Thank you so much! We are DIY in Ephesus through a TripAdvisor recommended tour and guide.

I know that you DS will find so many other 18-21 year olds. Did you check out the RollCall Sheet?

The roll call has a few listed between 18-21 (Monstro has 2 girls 18 & 20, MEB51 has 1 guy 18 & girl 21 and Cali Tracy has a girl 19) but age was only asked if under 18 so there are probably a lot more.:thumbsup2
