Who's in for GREECE and TURKEY, June 15 2003????

Aha! So this is where all the organized people are! So glad I found you. I'm not. This was a last minute reservation for us, so we are playing catch up big time. Hope to meet many of you at the Friday night meet and greet at the Renaissance. We are thinking of going to the Gran Gala Flamenco on Thursday night at the Palau de la Musica in Barcelona. Anyone have a review to share on that show? The venue is so beautiful, and the cost looks pretty reasonable.

We will be driving from Sarnia to Toronto on the 13th, but are taking the 6:40 p.m. Air France flight to Paris. Had originally planned on the nonstop Air Canada, but got a great deal on flights through Paris, and now we get 4 days in Paris after the cruise! Best wishes for a smooth drive to Pearson! I have to work that morning so we won't be leaving here until 12:30-1:00. Assuming a normal 2 1/2-3 hour drive we will still get there 3 hours before the flight, but I'm always nervous of backups on highway 401.

Have you planned where to park? Will probably do Park'n'Fly since I have a discount through work. Anyone used their lot in Toronto before? We are usually flying west when we fly from there instead of Detroit, so we leave early in the morning and stay over at a hotel with parking. Been a while since I used any of the lots.

We've used the Park n' Fly a few times. The shuttle train runs every few minutes. It was convenient and easy. Check the web for specials too - we found a 50% off discount code when we used it last year, may be better than your corporate discount.

Who is in control of the spreadsheet? I would like to change my cabin from GTY to 2546. I have been trying to change it for weeks without any success. Keeps saying I have no permission to make changes. I even added another line to the roll call to show my cabin number. Any help would be appreciated.

You did well in the GTY lottery. Just stayed 2 doors aft of your cabin (on the Wonder anyway)...great location...I'm sure you'll like it.

Who is going to Florence? We were sad to learn that the Accademia and the Uffizi will be closed that day (Monday). So sad, that we are staying overnight in Florence. We will see David and then the Uffizi on Tuesday morning, catch a train to Rome, check out the Vatican Museums, then rejoin the ship! Our daughters should be exhausted from that!

Just got back Monday night from our "warm up" cruise on the Wonder up the Pacific Coast. Lots of fun but had a few more hiccups this cruise than normal for DCL. Had to cancel and reschedule the Toy Story show due to "technical difficulties", and then the Dreams show "crashed" near the end (although they kept everyone entertained by getting us to dance along with the staff to YMCA while they rebooted). Never got to the Remember the Magic show as we ran out of days. They even put "Casual attire" for dinner on formal night in the Navigators and didn't realize it until about 45 minutes before the first seating (then they made an announcement), so that created a bit of confusion for newbies. No Pirate Night (they did the Pixar Pals show in the atrium instead)...not a good tradeoff IMHO. However, we did get a fireworks show (although it was significantly shorter than normal). Still a great time though...2 sunny (but breezy) days in San Francisco, whale sightings at sea, and drizzly/cool but pleasant days in Victoria and Vancouver. The ship looked great and the staff was amazing as usual.

The good news is we just have to do laundry and put everything back in the suitcases. We were able to keep it to carry-on baggage only, and still took a bit too much (as usual). And it should be warmer in the Med!

The bad news is we've got only 2 weeks to lose our recently gained "Wonder Pounds" to make room for the "Magic Pounds" we'll gain on this trip! I think the Mickey Bars did me in. Oh well, it was worth it. Salads and lots of gym time until we leave.

What is the nearest subway stop (or other public transportation) to the Renaissance? We are staying on the other side of town but may come over for the Friday night meetup and trip to the fountains.

Looking forward to meeting everyone! Take care! party:

may I say officially that i'm :hyper: and  finally dawning on me that we are taking a trip far away. our friends (who are also our neighbors) rock! the husband has offered to stay at our house during the nights with our dog (and theirs):thumbsup2 otherwise she would be staying at the kennel we had adopted her from:sad2: today I sorted out and organized all the clothing i'm taking (at least I hope i'm taking it, the luggage scale will tell me later!). all I have left to sort out is what pants my husband wants to take and toiletries. now i'm on to working on a calendar that we can keep in our room and in our pockets so we don't miss anything. the only thing I'm not looking forward to is the flights to get to our Magic.

how is everyone else doing?????

see ya, marianne

Got our tickets for climbing the tower in Pisa for 1:45 p.m. Hoping they won't ask for any proof of age for the kids - will be sneaking our almost 7 year old in despite the 8+ age requirement. It's the only thing he really wanted to do in the ports on this cruise! I know he can do the stairs, so hopefully there won't be any issues.

2 weeks from now we will be over the ocean - so excited! :cool1: We won't be able to pack in carry-ons, but I am shooting for just 2 suitcases between the 4 of us.

We each get one bag free so we don't have to stress too much about space, but hopefully still leave room for souvenirs and such.

Speaking of souvenirs, what kinds of things are you guys going to be looking for in each of the ports? We are need ideas for what to bring home for our house watchers.

That should be fun. What do you have to do when you stay overnight off the ship and rejoin at the next port? And good thing we have two sea days after Rome so you guys can rest up before Athens :)

We are doing the B2B so we are saving Florence for the next cruise because we'll be there on a Saturday. And we're doing Rome on this one because the next cruise has us in Civitavecchia on the last Sunday of the month which means it's crazy-busy in the city (or maybe I should say crazier-busier).

Our FE are completed and packed and we would have begun packing this weekend however friends kids are getting married this weekend in fact parents of the groom are on this cruise with us; parents of the bride who are also friends with us wanted to come but just having a wedding it did not work. Any way DSIS and family live about 40 miles from us and we are within a few miles of the wedding etc..... so we are having house guests a few tonight and more Sat night. Our guest bedroom is where we pack so we have to wait until Sunday or Monday to begin that process!
Happy weekend everyone! Sue

You are luck to have neighbors watch your dog. :) Our dog is going to my in-laws. I am sure Max, our 72 lbs. Chocolate Lab will gain alot of weight that he did when we traveled on our 2010 MedCruise.

I did all the toiletries and medical stuff (allergy medicine), etc. I keep looking over maps and stuff.

I am hoping that I don't have to take my work with me on the cruise. All my clients are freaking out, because I am leaving them for 3 weeks without email access. :)

My DH wants to only pack a backpack...he's killing me :worried:

Really... pack for a 12 night cruise in a backpack.

But, it is getting hectic and need this upcoming vacation badly.

We'll be going to Florence knowing full well Uffizi will be closed. I went there 20 years ago and spent half a day there. And that's only stopping to look at the highlights!! That place is HUGE.

That's funny. Welcome back! I still can't believe you squeezed that trip in. I guess it's those banked Disney bucks needing to be spent!

Quick check in here from Iowa!

DS graduated from HS last weekend, so we have been super busy with all the end-of-year/graduation stuff. Last weekend we had a houseful of guests, about 10 parties, and super bad weather . . . :(

But all the dust is settling and we are ready for our VACATION!!!

Funny about the Toy Story show. We were on the Alaska cruise last summer and the same thing happened. The show got all the way to the end, and when Buzz and Woody are supposed to fly into the moving truck, they crashed into the side of the stage instead. I heard later that this show is reknowned for having technical problems.

Packing - ugh. Are you guys really going to be able to get everything into carry-ons? We are definitely going to have large suitcases, because I don't want to spend the entire vacation doing laundry!

And United just changed our flights! Arrrrgghhh! Instead of flying out of Des Moines at 2 pm on 6/12, we now fly out at 6 am, and spend about 9 hours in Newark!!

So, any recommendations on what to do with a whole day at the Newark airport??? :confused3

There's not a lot to do with a whole day at Newark unless you can store your luggage and take the train across the river to NYC for a couple of hours.

Congrats to your DS on his graduation!

Ugh about the flight change - that's a long layover but I guess I'd rather have a long layover than one that is cut short. I haven't been to Newark in ages - do they have hotels adjacent or nearby that you could get a room for the day and hang out at the hotel rather than being in the airport? We saw a cool thing in ATL before where they have Minute Suites right in the airport that you can rent for those long layovers - sleep, relax, hang out quietly from the fray.

Our flight is at 5:30 PM and we are staying overnight at a hotel not too far from ATL so we are hanging out there and getting a late check-out so we don't have to get to ATL too early. One time we had a 9+ hour layover in Memphis because of flight delays from Denver which made us miss our connection. Longest 24 hours of my life were spent in Memphis airport (LOL).

We will tell DCL at Guest Services. I will leave a written note and tell them personally. I shall also leave a note for a couple of the officers. I don't want them to be searching for us.

Last September we stayed off the ship overnight when it was in San Francisco. but since the ship stayed overnight as well, we did not bother telling anyone. No issues at all.

Sweet. We have an overnight in Venice, and we had an overnight in St. Petersburg which were cool.

I can hear DCL now "Four Swampers, Paging Four Swampers." I think you all will have a great adventure! I wonder if any other cruisers will do an overnight in Florence like that. How long is the train trip from Florence to Rome? It's such a shame that there is so much time traveling between the coast to the cities people want to visit. I wonder if other cruiselines offer an overnight excursion like that - that would be cool, although I guess they don't really want guests off the ship because if you're off the ship, you aren't spending money in the bars, casinos (on non-DCL) or in the shops.
