Fri night I am going out with my Ya-Yas to celebrate my friend Judy's birthday. We're planning on dinner and a movie, probably The Stepford Wives. Is anybody as excited about this movie as I am? I've seen the original and I loved the pure creepiness of it. In my mind, having Christopher Walken in this update of that classic is going to make it even creepier, as he is the creepiest actor I've ever seen. :teeth: Plus..I love the cast. I'm curious to see how good an actress Faith Hill is. I mean, we all know she can sing but can she act? This will be the test, I suppose. :)

So anybody else going to see The Stepford Wives on Friday?

I'm really thinking about it...however I haven't seen the original...think it would be wise to see that first?

And...I guess I'm too young to know this (sorry!) what's the premise behind the movie...I KINDA have an idea...but not fully sure.

I wanna see it sooo bad! But I have a friend coming in from out of town so I doubt I will be able to go. Please oh please let me know how it was if you go!!

Definately see the original. It's very well acted.

And the premise--a town where all the wives are perfect and a non-perfect couple moves in and tries to figure out WHY all the women in town are so graceful, beautiful, well-mannered, etc. And when they DO find out..they don't exactly like it. Muhahahhahahahahaahhaa!

I think Alex wants to make us all stepford dissers

SSB does plan on catching...

A "Nicole" fan, so can't miss! ;)

Her last film that SSB saw at Toronto Film Festival was a WILD one... called "Dogville".

I won't be able to see it until after the weekend, but I cannot wait to see it! I love the whole concept!:o

From the IMDB :
Joanna and Walter are the two newest residents in Stepford. Joanna, although a "housewife" is intelligent and creative - taking an interest in photography: she wants to be "remembered". Like many of the men in Stepford, Walter is an obviously inadequate husband. Conflict occurs when Joanna complains that Walter is making all of the decisions for them. Walter joins the mysterious Stepford "Men's Club", which takes place in an old manor house, which is heavily guarded. Joanna is disturbed that many of the Stepford wives spend their lives in domestic servitude, are unintelligent and wear flowery print dresses. Her friend Bobbie thinks that it might be due to something in the water. At a consciousness-raising group that Joanna starts, the wives begin discussing spray starch and cleaning products. The awful truth is that the men of Stepford are replacing their wives with compliant domestic sex robots. Gradually, Joanna begins to realise that all of her friends have been replaced, and that she is in great danger. Her psychiatrist advices that she takes the kids and gets "the hell out of Stepford", but the men are hiding Joanna's children. Can she find them, or will she be murdered and replaced by RoboJoanna?

I would LOVE to, but I doubt I will be able to!

This movie was filmed in my town. The whole film crew parked their "butts" here for a few weeks. They kept very low key. The musuem which was the "club" is an actual landmark/musuem. The employees said the both Bette Middler and Nicole Kidman were just as nice as could be!

The production company also made several hundred's of thousand's worth of improvements to the musuem in addition to their fee. Our town was so tickled to have this work done as musuem's are so expensive and often hard to maintain through fund-raisers.

here is a picture.

Its definately on my list to see this summer.

Kimberle - I knew you were the area that they filmed this. The original movie was filmed in my hometown, Fairfield, plus a number of other nearby towns (Westport, Redding, Weston and Norwalk). The main characters home in that film was in the Greenfield Hill section of Fairfield and it was stunning. I still get a kick when I see it in the film. The house has been altered since the film, but it is still a really nice house. The other thing is that the Lockwood-Mathews House (the Mens Club) was used in the original movie as well. I think for the Mens Club, though I do remember some of the mens club scenes were filmed in Redding. Oh well, I think we will be seeing it in a few weeks. Looks like it will be funny. Jay

I am looking forward to see it on Friday...going solo though...no one else wants to see it...can't wait to see how Faith Hill does!

Here's a review of the original movie(1975). Back then Katherine Ross was the "It Girl"....I guess as popular as Nicole Kidman is now, and Paula Prentiss was her sassy friend(Bette Midlar plays her part in 2004 version). The 2 try to figure out what's so strange about all the town's "perfect" wives. Back then in the burn-your-bra, hippie era, these perfect women were a 'hoot".

Bette Middler was on Letterman last night and she says that the remake is more of a comedy than creepy. She said that the stories are similar but the movies aren't very comparable.

That's cool, Jay! Fairfield is a nice town! My ex-boss and friend grew up there & still remembers when they built 1-95 in her back-yard!

I would like to see both versions of the movies! I'm trying to keep away from "spoilers" till I do.
