Who's going - CKC Manchester?

I second the GDC is YUCK! I took the 6 pages in 60 minutes. I liked some of the techniques they taught but didn't care for the kits they gave us. Oh and I was lucky I sat on an end away from everyone so I didn't have to share. They had you share paint and stamps and such.

hmm ... so that class is definitely off my list!!!

Was this for last year? So we were in class with you and didn't notice?

We would recognize you now though!

Maybe. I took it by myself on Friday I think. We didn't really know you guys back then, so you could have been there. I think that was the first time I met you. I was your ATG angel!

Okay ladies.... I have hemmed and hawed about attending CKC this year, but I am here to COMMIT to attending! I probably live the closest and sadly, I've never attended! (It is probably about a 40 minute drive from my house. Considering I drive 60 minutes round trip 6 days a week in that direction to take DD to swim practice, this drive is NOTHING for me.) It usually conflicts with my wedding anniversary weekend and I never felt right about going and leaving DH with the kids. And I never had anyone to go with. But this year CKC is a few weeks earlier than usual and I have all of you to meet up with, so I am GOING!

If I lived a wee bit closer, I would love to host you all at my house for a meal and/or some crop time.... but I figure after driving anywhere from one to four hours just to reach Manchester, driving another 40 minutes (each way) would be asking a lot. Plus I am in the BOONDOCKS and it would probably feel like you were driving to the ends of the earth!!

I took some time tonight to check out the class schedule. Honestly, some of them seem really interesting, but I am mostly interested in checking out the vendor faire, meeting you all, and having some crop time. I spoke to DH about this earlier tonight and he said "happy anniversary" and told me take whatever classes I want and call it my anniversary gift. So sweet of him. Plus I am going to try and get an volunteer time slot to earn some of my passes.

Since I have never attended, I would love any feedback you could give on the classes I am interested in. I've already crossed off the 6 pages/60 minutes class, based on your negative comments.

Thursday: Preview crop 12-5
CK Sketch workshop (by far, the class I am the most interested in attending)

Friday: Creative Color Combinations 8:30 - 9:30 am
Unlock the Magic of Disney 11:10 am- 12:10 pm
So many pictures, so little time 12:30 - 1:30 pm*
Disney Magic 1:50 - 2:50 pm
Mosaic Moments 6:30 - 8:00 pm
Friday Celebration Crop 7:00 - 11:30 pm

Saturday: So many pictures, so little time 1:50 pm - 2:50 pm*
Super Saturday Crop 7:00 - 11:30 pm

*Same class, second time option.

Maybe I missed it.... Is there a crop time on Thursday night or just the daytime one?

Honestly, the one class I am definite about is the Thursday CK Sketches class and it was only offered that one time. Other than that I would love to take a Disney class and/or a class with some of you all.

As far as an "in-room" crop goes... sounds great to me! I might even splurge and get myself a room for that night so I could stay up late, have a few cocktails and not have to worry about driving home!

If anyone decides to do an in-room crop, can the hotel provide extra tables? If not, I have a few I could bring. They aren't pretty, necessarily, but certainly serviceable for such an event. How about chairs? I'm sure that the hotel could probably provide a few of those.

If there is anything else I could do to help with this, considering how close I live, I would be happy to help in any way that I can! If I want to go ahead and make an overnight reservation, which night are you all thinking might be the best? Friday or Saturday?

Now I'm excited! I NEVER do things like this for myself, so this is a big deal.

I hope I'm not overstepping my bounds by inviting myself... Let me know if this is a problem...................P

Welcome aboard, pjilla!! Don't be silly - of course you are not overstepping anything!

So glad you are finally able to check out CKC - I think you will be very happy with the whole experience!

Most of us are staying over Friday night, but not necessarily Saturday. You can see on this thread we're still in the planning stages but right now it seems there are tentative plans for a Friday evening get together, probably in one of our rooms (and we'll try to get the hotel to put us near each other) and a lunch on Saturday to get together with those coming up just for the day.

For a CKC newbie, I'll give you one bit of advice - just my 2 cents. If you're taking at least 3 classes, you can get into the vendor faire an hour before everyone else on Friday (9 instead of 10). That hour makes a big difference. I like to not schedule any classes before 11 or 12 on Friday and devote that time to the faire. Not like I don't go back inside there umpteen times throughout the weekend, but those first few hours are when I get the lay of the land before the bigger crowds hit, snag some good deals, etc.

I'm not sure about tables, chairs, etc at the hotel. Depending on the size of the group, it may be tricky to do actual cropping. But we can figure something out. Some of us did an in-room get together at CKC Hartford a few years ago, and in addition to food and gabbing, we all brought some of our finished scrapbooks to look at, which was fun.

There will be lots more chatter here as we all finalize our class choices and register and start to plan more details.

NEE, Thanks for making me feel welcome. I'll definitely keep checking here to see the plans are progressing...........P

Changed my hotel reservation to just Friday night, today. My neighbor Jackie (some of you met her at Lisa's last summer) and I are driving over together on Friday morning and leaving for home after lunch on Saturday. (With 5 kids and a job, that's all the time she can squeeze out.)

My "must do" class is the Disney one. Still have't looked at the schedule. Tonight we went to see Bob Jackson playing at PO Riverside. Wild as usual.

P I've never done classes either so first year for that for us too. We just usually go for the day on sat. This year Mom and I will be there starting thusday afternoon (we're trying to decide on the thurs night crop) and then have classes on fri and a couple on sat as that is the ONLY time they are offered.
If you decide to stay overnight on fri we are trying to get rooms close to each other. I'm going to try to pack a small folding table in my largest suitcase it's height adjustable so it would work sitting on the floor.

I've very excited cause last year I only met up with Lisa and her group for about 5 minutes, and saw Pam's group. So this year it's going to be great puttting faces with names. Even my mom (who's not on the boards) is excited to meet all my friends.

I'm hoping that you all got early registration for having been to classes before and i'm not a day behind.

Yup - we got the invite for a day early since we were registered last year. Almost missed the email though, Z2H had to point it out to me...

I'm all set as well:

11:10-12:10 - Live in the Moment
1:50-2:50 - Disney Magic
3:10-4:10 - Friends through Thick and Thin

Saturday:

12:30-1:30 - Double the Fun in Half the Time
3:10-4:10 - A Little Goes a Long Way – Patterned Paper

But I'm already thinking about changing it up ... And if a DIS lunch on Saturday is definitely happening, I'll drop that class.

Yea, Ryan! You probably wouldn't have to drop anything - it looks like you and Danica (at least already) are in 12:30-1:30 classes on Sat - we could meet up in the restaurant at 1:30ish right after those classes let out...just a thought.

It is a thought but I'm already switching my classes around again ... I will do this several times between now and when registration closes. It's what I do :lmao:

I've got my list ready and mom will start at 1pm

Friday 8:30 Boxer Palooza
3:10 Friends through thick and thin
4:30 Double the fun in 1/2 the time

Sat 8:30 the Great outdoors
1:50 101 for the boys

I'm thinking there is going to be crossovers on lunches. the 101 class is ONLY offered at that time so we'd be an earlier group for lunch.

I have the rooms reserved! Now if everything else goes as planned, I will be there.
It will be me, my daughter, my mom, and my sister. I got rooms for Thursday- Sunday. We will sightsee all day Thursday and Friday, meet and shop on Saturday and fly home Sunday.
I finally decided to stay in Manchester and travel from there, instead of changing hotels each night. Any thoughts on this? I'm open to suggestions.

Great! So glad you are coming! Are you flying into Manchester or Boston/Logan? Are there any particular things you and your family are "in to" that you'd especially like to see while you are here?
