Who's Attending What Food and Wine Festival Events?

Accordig to Robert Irvine we are to use grapeseed oil. I have been using olive oil for several years and was told to use is when an online acquaintance told me to switch to olive oil. Robert thinks olive oil burns and leaves a bitter taste in food. I might try the grape seed oil but only if it is not expensive. I have never had problems with olive oil burning or seen a bitter taste even in chicken and fish.

Thanks for the heads up on Taste. I do not do wheat or soy so that would be a problem there. That leaves the celebration dinners and I will not do Korean and am not a fan of Italian.

A seared Ahi Tuna salad at Taste Pilots.

A trio of sliders from the Cove Bar ($14) They also had a seafood cocktail thing but I don't recall exactly what it was.

At Pizza Oom Mow Mow a chicken ravioli.

Pacific Wharf had the cheese beer soup in a sourdough bread bowl.

Lobster roll sounds good if I can get it on a gluten free hot dog bun. I got my scooter so I could go to parks to exercise but by the end of this festival will probably have gained weight from all of the food. At least this time Robert Irvine served salmon was nice looking and done just right. The other fish dish was not up to my standards as the coloring was way off.

I will be there next Sunday and may pop in on the 28th but plan to be at Pizza Port on the 28th with friends from another site. I may try the rice pasta in a marinara sauce this time.

While Taste does get busy I think the fun part of it is meeting the folks who are also enjoying the event. We use the tables that are set up for standees and it works out great. If we don't get the same one when we come back from one of the stations, oh well, we'll get another! This will be our third Taste and we're really looking forward to it. There were some great bites last year and the wines were also good. There were a couple that I didn't care for but that's what it's all about; finding what you like and what works for you.

They had a great ice sculpture/table last year which they poured cosmos and appletinis through and into your glass below. A chilled drink was a great way to start!

The cost has gone up from last year so that might hold a few people back but it'll be pretty full all the same, I think.

I was at Taste Pilot's Grill and it was a Japanese type of fish chunks in a salad. I cannot remember all that was in the salad but it was Asian style cooking. I also would love to see a list of restaurants and the special dishes instead of having to go around trying to find out what is where.

I am hoping to save up to do one event. I wanted Spain and Taste so much.

Another thing I thought of--the CM at the main booth told us the reason they won't release a list of the special items is because they are "subject to change" --in other words something isn't selling well will be replaced. She specifically mentioned the tataki salad. Which is a weird choice for Taste Pilot's anyway.

Taste Pilot's Grill is supposed to be a post World War II testing ground with a grill for pilots like out in the Mojave Desert. It is something I would expect at Oom Mow Mow or Cove Bar.

I voted for Obama and am so happy as I got my letter from the Government saying I will be getting me a stimulus check of $250 just like my mother.

Suggestions on the one event to choose if it is available.

Limitations are: Celiac - no wheat, very little soy, egg wash is ok but no eggs and I am a weird eater who loves carmelized onions, cooked onions, and cooked bell pepper is it is small like Philly steak sandwiches. For the event I will do dairy and chocolate.

So far the only ones that appeal to me are Spain, Italy and France. I do not know about fancy foreign food that much so advice will be taken. I thought about the deserts and I am limited on chocolate and dairy. I also tend to avoid desserts beyond a small piece once in a while.

Chef Jay told me to do France, Spain then Italy in order of ease of adjusting the menu to gluten/soy free. He is such a sweetie and then took my event booklet and wrote in the corner that Pizza Oom Mow Mow was to give me a gluten free pizza. I had lunch with friends and was not ready for more food until dinner but I did get the pizza and just finished it. I talk about the magic of Disney being in the heart of the cast member, he sure has a kind magic heart. He asked me if I had tried the pizza place and I told him how I loved it.

Wow what a special day. I will wait until this Friday after I go to the bank and pay off most of the Visa bill as I could charge now but rather save a little for emergencies.

Chocolate show at chefs was filled about 30 minutes before start time.
The ice cream vendor has a paleta that is called Nestle's Delicia mango bar that is mango, cream and has corn but is gluten free. They have chicken tamales for $9.99 at Cocina Cucomonga but I can get 8 tamales that are home made and yummy for that price. $4,99 was an empanada. Bountiful harvest had some thing like a salad, not sure.

Grapeseed oil is about the same price as a mid-priced olive oil. I like it - but I also like olive oil (olive oil has more flavor though, so grapeseed oil is good in food you don't want to alter the taste of with your oil).

I am not going- no Disney trips coming up :sad2:. But I just wanted to butt in and ask you to do a review or post some pictures after you go. The Sweet Sundays events sound so cool and I am totally jealous that you are going to so many- I would love to hear your thoughts!

I would be happy to take pics and post them!

JadaB--I took the intro to wine tasting class last year and it was very good--but I still suck at wine tasting! LOL

Anyone else attending any of the special events?

Three years agos I suddenly had to cook for mom and I. I studied and talked to friends. Since I started with olive oil I have not noticed bitter notes or anything strange with the food. I am very careful though about burning stuff though but I thought it was weird that he would say that about olive oil. I will get a bottle of grape seed oil payday.

Friday we will see what is open and I will be going to one event.

Add me twice. I checked everything out financially and did some math and thinking and tomorrow is payday so put me down for the following dates. Now to get Calvin to feed mom as I need 90 minutes to get to DLR with or with out a bus. I am so excited and will have to find something nice to wear. I will need closed toes shoes and pants and a nice top or blouse.

I am so excited about this.:dance3::yay:

Tonight I got me a nice special chef salad and it had a crouton in it. If the cross contamination is bad then I may not make this coming Wednesday's event. I did catch that crouton and do not think I ate any but it was very soggy and for those of you familiar with food allergies you know the risk of contamination.

I was so looking forward to getting ready and was thinking of a professional hairdo and buying some new clothes for that event. fingers are crossed that I make it some how. Thanks for listing me. I have been wanting to do the Epcot one for many years. I will have fingers crossed that I make it Wednesday.

I bolded my name by the way because that list is so long.:thumbsup2

Not really sure if this is the right place to post but the Winemaker's Dinner last Friday night was wonderful. PD and I have a special place in our hearts for MacMurrary as we had their Pinot Noir for our wedding reception at Club 33. Kate did not disappoint, neither did Jason, the executive chef at Steakhouse 55. Everything was going great starting with the Pinot Gris with the starter (LOVE gravlax) until we got to the final course. The pinot seemed whimpy UNTIL the actual dessert arrived. Jason outdid himself with this. The wine/dessert combination was heaven.

I am so sorry that my pockets don't run deep enough to do one of these each Friday during the festival. Our tablemates (and near tablemates) were superb and we look forward to the 27th of May when Italy arrives at the Vineyard Room.

For those of you who may be contemplating a Food and Wine event, DO IT!

Michael

Thanks for the wonderful words about the dinner, Michael.

You've yot me so excited for Sweet Sunday on Mother's Day with my friend, DH & DD. And then the France dinner in two weeks!

I hope to hear from others and their experiences, too.:thumbsup2

:scared1:Wow that was scary and I lost my shopping time tonight but I will be there for sure and for the next 36 hours am planning to not eat anything unless I am absolutely sure it is safe. I am so excited to be part of a big pay to play event like this. I love food more than anything in the world probably.
