Yep...screen is cracked but the seems to be functional. I was probably going to upgrade if/when the iPhone 5 came out. Anyone deal with fixing/replacing recently? It is still under warranty. Not that it matters... :(

So your very Lucky the screen still works!

Put a screen protector over it (so you dont get glass in your fingers) in the mean time. (Rumors are the "5" is coming in October)

I dont have personal experience changing the screen BUT i do work in cellphones and know that there are many people who will fix the screen for you...
Where I am in NC, Apple charged one of my customers $150 (or so they said) While a local guy will fix it for $70. You can also buy kits online/amazon and do it yourself but its crazy difficult.
Either way your warrenty is gone now that there is physical damage so if you get a non-apple party to change it voiding the warrenty it doesnt really make a difference.

Good Luck :)

Believe it or not, I have a close family member who is an Apple-certified technician at a facility in Kansas City that specializes in iPhone/iPad/Mac repairs.

If you can't find anything reasonable near you, it might be worth FedEx'ing your device to these guys...

I think it's actually pretty easy to change the screen. My dd bought kits off eBay and has changed a few of them for herself and friends/family with no problems so far.

Definitely be careful! I know someone who got a piece of that glass in her eye that transferred from her fingers from her broken iphone screen. It can be really sharp.

Its easier to change the screen on the 3's than it is the 4's but there are plenty of place that do it, some kiosks in the mall and plenty of guys do it on the side. A guy I work with does it and he only charges 50.00 for it. He fixed my itouch screen when I broke it and my friends iphone screen.

Make sure you get an otter box for your next phone case!!!

:thumbsup2

I swear I do not work for that company, but I will be the first to say those things are amazing! I have dropped mine on pavement, tile, sat on it... That thing has kept me from breaking my phone every time. *knock on wood*

I don't know how many broken phones I would have had if it hadn't been for the Otter Box.

Which warranty do you have? If it is the 1 year manufacturer's warranty; correct, no coverage for this. A square Trade with accidental damage warranty will cover this. And when I got my most recent iPhone from Sprint there is now AppleCare+ which in addition to the regular warranty extension of Apple Care, they also replace twice during the period for accidental damage. Do you by chance have any of those warranties? If not, I agree, put a cover over the glass and try to hold out until the new one is released.

I haven't changed the screen on an iPhone 4, but I just did on a iPhone 3 about a month ago. I bought a kit on Ebay for about $10 and watched a You Tube video with instructions. It wasn't hard at all. It took maybe 20 minutes and the new screen works perfectly.

Then what will I do with all my Disney iPhone cases??

The problem is my daughter did the same thing to her iphone 4 seven months ago and she has been living with her cracked screen waiting for me to upgrade to get the 4s so I am leaning towards fixing it. Apple will fix (they just give u a new phone) for $199. If I can find a place to do it for less than $100 it might be worth having someone do it. I watched some YouTube videos showing how to fix and while I probably can do it the parts are too tiny for my big hands so I don't see that as an option. I guess I could experiment on her phone first.

FWIW, I've dropped mine on pavement and tile numerous times, left it on the trunk and had it fly off into the street when I was driving, sat on it, etc. and it has never had any damage. I've also never had an Otterbox case. Right now I have a CaseMate and it has protected it perfectly.

I have done that recently too ---- iphone + pool deck = cracked screen!!!

There was a kiosk in the mall near my house that changed the screen. Cost me $100 but that was WAY cheaper than replacing the phone.

I used my Iphone with a cracked screen for about 3 months before I upgraded. It worked fine. Depending on how the screen is cracked; you may be able to make it until you can upgrade.

A cracked iPhone screen is easily fixed for about $30. However, the screws are VERY small, and it takes a little patience. If you don't have patience, pay someone. There probably is a local kid fixing them since kids drop them all the time. My son replaces iPhone screens for his friends for a fee. Can't remember how much he charged.

before you pay anyone or buy a new phone, take it to your local Apple Store and ask nicely if there's anything they can do. Quite often they will help you, even if you don't have a warranty. They have very good customer service.

I had an Otter box and after a race I was putting my daughters stuff in the car and I put my cell phone on the roof of my car- I pulled out onto the Long Island Expressway Service road and heard bump bump bump and looked in the rear view mirror to see my phone bouncing down the service road and a car going over it! I pulled off the side of the road and ran out and got it and the only thing wrong with it was the case cracked a bit-phone was perfectly fine!

I have a Mophi Juice pack I use more often though that doesn't protect the phone as much but it hold a charge in the case so when the phone battery is low I can flip a switch on the case and it fully charges it up again.

I debated between some really cute cases on Etsy vs. the otterbox. Your situation now is what convinced me that the protection is more important that the style. I did end up with a cute pink & gray otterbox as a compromise.

As for replacing the screen, I recently saw a sign at RadioShack that they replace iPhone screens and I am pretty sure it was less than $100 for an iPhone 4s.

Admit it you wanted to upgrade next month jk. I've seen the replacement screen kits on ebay pretty cheap I think it would be worth it to fix or sell for someone else to repair.

This. :thumbsup2 My friend dropped hers, the screen still worked so she kept using it, but over time the crack spread and she got annoyed with it, so she took it to the apple store. It was out of warranty, but they replaced the screen for her for free anyway. That doesn't mean that they will definitely do it for you, but it certainly can't hurt to ask.
