Who'll stand with me...outside the DVC 'member' lounge?

Maybe Mr. Cleo, but I'll have to think about that a bit more.

Perhaps I'll dress up as Robin Hood and steal snacks and beverages from the Epcot lounge and deliver them to the protesters outside who were denied DVC perks. Hopefully Ken Pet Rock won't find out...

Oh great, you just gave them an idea for which 'perks' to take away next. Just when I am potentially going to be able to enter the lounge...NO SNACKS AND BEVERAGES FOR YOU! ;)

sorry Jed, I don't think you're a plant but I do think there are DVD employees on this board trying to convince people to buy direct. I truly apologize. But I really hope you can try to understand why this situation has been so upsetting.

The 4.4.16 poor communication and changes were handled ineptly. I feel so badly for those in limbo. It has really shaken my confidence in Disney and dvc.

I convinced my brother to buy dvc last year, as he goes twice a year.

My older sister convinced me to buy dvc when my first was born-- she goes three times a year (mostly cash stays for medical conferences as she blows her points very quickly doing grand villas).

My SILs parents are bcv and bwv since 2000, and rave about their dvc.

A good friend from grad school was married at Disney, bought 1,000 points, and still has the bulk of his dvc.

My next door neighbor just sold his dvc last year because his last child just went to college.

I'm surrounded by dvc people. Not just on a forum. And I'm no longer a fan of my dvc or Disney. Do I think the stock has done well? Yes. Do I think past performance of a stock is indicative of future performance? No. Their customer service has been truly lacking -- as a trend-- I do think it's time to reevaluate.

Like I've posted, maybe I need a break. Atlantis looks promising right now.

I was in shock by all this-- completely disappointed and disgusted that DVD would be so unfeeling and uncaring towards those who happened to be in limbo so they weren't "pre 4.4.16 closed contracts".

It seemed petty and mean spirited, nothing at all like a company that valued customer service or repeat customers. There couldn't have been THAT MANY contracts in the queue for it to really make any financial impact.

It spoke volumes on how they see their dvc members, and how they will treat us going forward. No warning at all. No heads up. Nothing.

With this bad taste in my mouth, I was ready to chuck my dvc in the toilet, after planning out a financially prudent exit strategy, of course.

I'm glad they did the right thing, but they should have done the right thing FROM THE GETGO. So forgive me if I've just lost more pixie dust from my eyes.

Forgive me if I cringe as my 2yr old happily sings "Mickey mouse clubhouse, come inside, come inside", wishing he didn't seem so enchanted by the mouse.

I think members are going to take a much harder look at the value of their dvc, emotionally and otherwise, going forward.

I'm so glad so many current members cried foul, and they listened.

I'm going to make a phone call tomorrow telling them they did the right thing, and that this is what they should have done from the getgo. I hope other members join me in the chorus.

It's too late, Disney has your 2 year old hooked, and now you will be forced to visit Disney as many times as you can afford over the next 15 years at least, lol. You might as well sit back and save some money with DVC, even if you don't get a card.

Suebeelin - Everyone is of course entitled to their opinion. For me, your post highlights precisely why I'm not worried that this is a harbinger of the end for Disney and DVC.

Everyone you know heavily invested and seemingly satisfied with the Disney brand. Good stock outcomes. No, past performance does not predict future success, but the current trajectory seems largely ok.

Shanghai is worth being troubled about, IMO. A relatively minor PR gaffe in a small corner of the business? It bears watching, but it isn't a sign of the apocalypse. IMO.

I'm sure that's already a done deal. They'll probably charge my resort account double just on principle. Right now, Ken Potrock is reading this board and flagging us all. I bet I won't even be allowed an aisle seat on Southwest by the time he's done with me.(DEFINITELY no in-flight complementary beverage, that's for sure.)

Because those things were never really yours. They aren't really anyones, including previous resale and/or direct buyers. They can and have been taken away at the whims of Disney since the inception of DVC. They will certainly change again. Your feeling of loss, while real, is based on a fundamental misunderstanding of what you were purchasing in the first place.

Ignore me if you want, or call me a stooge. But what I say is true. And you'll have a lot fewer emotional roller coasters while enjoying the real ones more if you heed my words.

Well they were at the time I signed the contract back in February.

And Interval Internatjonal trades were perks when I signed mine. $400 APs. Unlimited "super" fast passes. Triple points the first year. $199 4 day tickets.

NONE of that stuff was actually part of your contract. In fact, it specifically says they AREN'T part of your contract. So no, they weren't rally yours, any more than all that stuff I've lost since 2005 was mine.

You can be salty if you want. I understand and, believe it or not, even empathize with why. I'm just trying to help you understand that the feeling is misplaced when you really look at the terms of what you are actually buying with DVC.

Not a club. Not a magic society. Those things you are desperately worried about losing, honest, once you've owned for a bit, amount to really nothing at all. And that's how much right you have to them under Disney's stated terms. None at all.

Hide me from Pop Rock, please! I'm afraid:duck:

This thread is blowing my mind.
All I know is I'm feeling pretty good right about now :yay:

I realize your trying REALLY hard and putting in a decent amount of time trying to convince us why we were owed nothing and wrong for feeling the way we did . But it happened, we were sad /disappointed /angry, and YAY! They changed their mind and we are now getting what we thought we signed up for. Crisis averted.
You can probably take your pitchfork elsewhere and try to change the thinking of other posters now that this situation seems to have died down.

Yes a club, Disney Vacation CLUB!

Maybe so, but could you please let me at least own them and enjoy them in my own way? Geez!

linzjane88, I haven't told DH the latest development just in case. I am wary so I'm thinking I'll wait to receive the membership card in my hand before I break the news to him.

BTW, when you get a chance, check out my other thread "A poem to end Grandfather gate." Look at the image and let me know if you want to buy that t-shirt.:p
