Tell me about the whole Maine lobster at Narcoossee's? I have never eaten a whole one before, and I know they break it open for you...what is the deal with the head?

How good it is? Worth it, or just get the surf & turf?

I usually eat the tail, and the claws. Dipped in clarified butter yummy!! That is pretty much it. I have heard others pick through the body to get to that minimal meat. But, I don't. The head you dont eat. I have never eaten at Narcoosee's. But, I am pretty sure, since it is a signature resteraunt mostly everything there is worth it. Enjoy!:thumbsup2

a lot of people throw away good meat that they paid for because they assume there's nothing left after eating the tail and claws. There IS white lobster meat in the body, and in the legs, knuckles, just keep pulling it apart and you'll find it. Don't waste $$$$.

When we went last Sept. we decided on the surf and turf. The steak was good as was the lobster tail. I didn't want to have to deal with the whole one! :rotfl2: My favorite part of the meal (besides the fireworks view) was the calamari appetizer and the almond crusted cheesecake-I'm going back in Sept. just for those! :cloud9:

There are whole web sites devoted to how to eat a Maine lobster! Don't waste it by eating only claws and tail. The tomalley (the green stuff) is considered a delicacy by many. I don't care for it and don't eat that part but know many others who do! Although when I am at an upscale restaurant I don't order whole lobster. It is messy if you want to get all the meat you can! Best eaten where you can put on a plastic bib and have lots of paper napkins.

We had the surf and turf when we went last year as they ran out of whole lobsters, so I wouldnt make a booking too late just in case you are disappointed!!!!!!!!

What a good point. :thumbsup2 Now I will make sure to have a reasonably early ADR. :cutie:

New Englander here! I love lobster and if I get a whole one, you can bet that I'm going to eat every last bit of meat. And I've also been known to eat the tomalley.

We've got an ADR at Narcoossee's for our Nov. trip and I'm debating whether I should go with the whole lobster since I'm somewhat afraid that I won't enjoy it as much as the fresh ones I can get here.

Correct me if I am wrong, but many times when you order "Surf and Turf" with a lobster tail it is not from a Maine lobster, but rather a rock lobster tail - not even close to the real McCoy IMHO. Be sure to ask when ordering what the "lobster" tail is.

Paul in CT is right. Lobster tail bears no relation to the real thing (Maine lobster), except they both come from the sea. No need to bother with a lobster tail, IMO. Get the whole Maine lobster!
