Whoever Would Do This To A Kitten Should Rot (Happy Ending At Least)

I think its wonderful you rescued him but am I the only one thinking that this just may have been a case of a kitten who wandered from its stray cat mother? I see cats with their kittens all the time on the sides of roads when I travel upstate.

Bless you guys for getting the little gipper.

The vet that examined it felt the cuts and rashes were from hitting the pavement the OP posted. It doesn't look like a mama has been taking good care of that poor little baby (and she may have been hit by a car, who knows where the mama's go). The loose stools often start about day 4-5 after mama is done nursing, although kittens can get them for a number of reasons.

This is the time of year for wandering mama's and their babies though, that is for sure. In either scenerio, it was a great save.

That poor kitten, some people are just disgusting. :sad2: Thank goodness you were there at the right time to be able to help him.

I actually got my cat in the same manner. My friend saw someone throw my cat, who at the time was a kitten who barely even had his eyes open, out their window on 408 (I lived in Orlando at the time.) She couldn't keep him, so I took him in. He had a horrible limp from being throw and some rashes too. Almost 4 years later, he is in a loving home and as healthy as ever (although he is still terrified of cars and strangers.)

You are amazing for playing frogger to save that little cutie!:worship:

Uugg, I guess I was thinking someone couldn't be so cruel. I should have known better, my rescue kitty was found in a cardboard box on the side of the road in winter. What a good thing the OP found him.

Yeah, the poor little guy had road rash, and on this particular stretch of I-4 it would be virtually impossible for an animal to get there without "assistance." Another friend of mine said maybe he had climbed into the wheel well of someone's car and fell out there...I'd like to believe it wasn't intentional but my gut says some idiot just wanted to get rid of him.

Here's a photo of him today. We went to Petsmart to get some supplies for his temporary home in the shower. He's so loving when we take him out for social time. Hopefully the local very can fit him in tomorrow for a comprehensive exam so I can let him out more around the other cats. They're miffed but taking it pretty much okay.

Love the pictures!!! In the earlier one it looks like he's snuggled up on you. I think I'm falling in love......

Older cats usually take to kittens fairly well. Glad you could save him from any more harm.

Love the picture in the shower. He's so cute.I hope he's doing well.

I posted his full story on my blog: http://celebrationfl.blogspot.com/2009/06/june-is-adopt-cat-monthwhether-you-want.html

We took him to the local vet today, and the doc thinks he's only four weeks old. He has fleas and worms, so now I have to treat our other three cats for fleas too but that's not bad since I can use the spot-on stuff. He's such a good little boy; he always uses the litterbox, and he's eating like a horse. He's still confined much of the time, but we let him out for play and attention several times a day. He's on medication so he goes back to the vet in a week for a check-up. Ironically, today is DH's birthday so I guess God sent him a heck of a present a couple of days early!

Did the vet say how much he weighed? For the healthy kittens it's usually a 1/4 of a pound a week. We often use that to tell the age, but it's harder when they haven't been taken care of. Looks like he can climb pretty good. I think you were more accurate in the age than the vet!
I'm not surprised at the worms or the fleas. If he has fleas, I'm betting tapeworms. Of course most of them have rounds, and I'd toss coccidia in there for good measure. Even the 'good' ones come to us complete with all of the above..but they usually have had full belly's so it's easier for them. I assume he tested ok for feluke since it looks like he has found his forever home LOL!
Congrats on another wonderful kitty.

Bless you. You do realize that once you name them and buy them kitty play things you have no hope of ever getting rid of them, right? :lmao: My parents "temporarily" took in a cat who adopted us with the intention of finding a home for him. That was three years ago. Salem is currently asleep on my dad's bed.

Sheikra sounds like despite it all he has found a very loving home.

The vet did say coccidia and some other kind of worm. There was one kind he said they can be born with and then something else he picked up (probably the tape worms...our cat Stitch had those when we adopted him too). He was just over a pound and the vet said he was still too young for his shots so that will be done whenever he's ready. Surprisingly they haven't tested for leukemia yet since we have other cats, so we are controlling their interactions...I'm guessing that will be done when they do the shots. Then he can have a break from the vet till it's neutering time.

It's really hard to hit a vein in a kitten just over a pound. If your cats are vacinated against feluke, your vet prob isn't too worried.
I wish everyone was as responsible as you are!

OH my goodness... God bless you and your DH for saving this kitty! No creature deserves that kind of treatment; I can't imagine what kind of a scumbag (whoo, had to go back and delete a naughtier word!) would do something like THAT to another living being.

People like you just warm my heart :lovestruc Thank you so much for sharing, and I hope your new kitteh turns out to be a good addition to your furfamily! :cat:

We generally prefer to adopt adult cats (when fate doesn't intervene), but kittens sure are fun.
This was meant to be. Either for you to keep or to make a special kitten for a friend of yours!
We've fostered over 300 kittens (and a few mama's that came with them) in the past three years. I love having kittens in the house all the time! You don't need TV, that's for sure. They are so entertaining. Of course I never have just one LOL!

Ah, that makes me feel better. He is really getting lively and playful now. I just posted an update with a pic. of him on top of his scratching post:

http://celebrationfl.blogspot.com/2009/06/sheikra-update-before-and-after.html

He's so funny; he knows how to get up but not how to get down! We generally prefer to adopt adult cats (when fate doesn't intervene), but kittens sure are fun.

:lmao:

Same goes for trees and rooftops... I've had to coax many a cat down out of the tree.... And fetch them off the porch roof (those that will come to the edge and let me grab them, that is...)

And yes, cats are hard to get rid of... That's why I have 10 cats right now! Two cats had kittens and I didn't want to part with them!

Well, little SheiKra is a bit famous now. He's on the Busch Gardens official Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Busch-Gardens-Tampa-Bay/68181225238 (check out the Wall section). He's come a long way in only four days!

He may be a mutant too; it's hard to tell, but I think he is a tortiseshell, and he's definitely a boy, so that would make him a genetic mutant (it happens in 1 in 3000 cats, according to what I've read). His coat is black and orange now so it will be interesting to see if it changes or if he retains it. I was thinking maybe he's black, but part of the black fur got bleached by the sun so it looks orange, but hubby says I'm nuts.

You can see the orange in this photo:
