So I was just sitting here in our rental house in Kissimmee, everyone else asleep at 10:15pm when I heard a very loud BOOM and all of the windows in the house shook.

My heart stopped. Was it thunder?? No storm. Was it roaming gangs of hoodlums, engaged in gun fire in this gated community? I didn't hear any shouting. Was it an earthquake? No, the floor didn't shake, the windows did.

So I did a bit of research and discovered that the Space Shuttle had just landed and its reentry into the atmosphere caused this sonic boom.

Well, now, that's a pretty cool story to tell my family! It sure beats thunder. Or gangs. Anyone else hear it?

Heard it. We've learned to keep tabs on the space shuttle so the sonic booms don't catch us off guard. ;)

I remember being in the entertainment trailers at DHS (the MGM) when the space shuttle re-entered. It shook the trailers and scared quite a few of us who had never experienced a landing before. It was pretty cool though!

Yep heard it seating here tracking the landing on the computer re-entry path was over are area where we live wish we could have seen it.Their back and all is good :cool1: :thumbsup2

How neat! Would have liked to hear that myself..:)

Glad that all is well..:thumbsup2

It woke up my brother in St. Cloud....:)

That's neat that other DISers heard it, too. My goodness, it was loud. Scared me half to death. I wish I had known about it ahead of time so that I wasn't taken by surprise!

Wasn't that the last voyage of the Space Shuttle? It would be kind of cool to be able to say that I heard the last landing of the program.

I heard it, I was in bed and at first it startled me but then I realized what it was...so cool

Didn't hear it today because I am here up in MA, but back in '92 when dh & I went to WDW for the first time together we were part of a charter group and we were meeting at King Henry's Feast (not sure if it is still around) the first morning to get a briefing about Disney when all of a sudden there was a loud noise and the door blew open and one of the workers announced - "The shuttle has returned!" :)

During another trip not too long ago we were in Epcot by the pin station at night and we saw the shuttle going up - way cool! :thumbsup2

I slept through it....the sonic boom shakes the house and I just keep right on snoring....

We didn't hear it up this way. It depends on the approach they take. We've heard it a few times, but not last night.

I think I heard it but I'm so used to the loud booms of fireworks at the Magic Kingdom and Epcot every night I think I just ignored it.

I didn't hear it, but I'm so used to hearing the fireworks every night from the MK that nothing registers. Most nights, I don't even remember hearing Wishes.

You know, growing up, we heard sonic booms all the time. I mean, ALL the time. We had an airforce base relatively close and we got so used to sonic booms that they were no big deal. This was in the 60s and 70s. I figured it was the same for everyone, but DH said he rarely heard them and he grew up near another airforce base. :confused3 DSis and I were chatting the other day about how you never hear them anymore.

Does anyone else remember sonic booms being a dime a dozen growing up?

I think I heard it all the way down in South FL. I heard what I thought was a loud clap of thunder around that time.
