Who would like to see a Grand Floridian DVC Resort

I would love to see a DVC on the monorail line. I wouldn't care if it was GF. If they think the BCV sold fast.....!

It seems to that the Contemporary could use some upgrading-how about a DVC resort? I do prefer the Grand Floridian though. It is my favorite. Is there a location for it?

Personnally I don't think it will ever happen. As the Flagship resort at WDW, it's cash price makes it very exclusive and profitable. Adding a DVC resort may make GF seem too ordinary to justify the cost for the upper-crust guests. I also think the points chart would be astronomical.

I could see it now....a super DVC. They could sell points at $130+. They could include passes, daily maid service, and 'special services'.

Now that would make an DVC worth being called the Grand Floridian Super DVC. The maintance fees only $8.40 per point:jester:

Let the sale begin.

I hope that it never happens.:(

I would have little interest in that. Can think of thirty different places I would rather have a DVC resort than at GF. It would definitely be my last choice along the Monorail, also.

How about the Poly?? I would buy there in a second. We always stayed there before DVC and kind of miss it. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like there is any room there to build.:(

1) Absolutely not.
2) Disney is quickly becoming "Time Share Central".
3) The monorail resorts are unique and ned to stay that way.

I'm all for extra choices, although the "theme" of the GF isn't one that makes me want to stay there. If any of the monorail resorts goes on DVC, I tend to agree with the view that the Contemp is the most likely. This is particularly true of the "garden wing" that does seem to be one of the least popular of the exclusive resorts.

IMHO, the majority of people who stay in rooms at GF, at looking for the extra benefits that DVC provides.....

For the kind of money that it takes to stay there, I would want maid service every day, the sheets turned over before I go to bed, and have a candy on my pillow...

Plus, I have a hard time seeing GF guests taking advantage of the kitchen and the clothes washer and dryer... If I were there I'd want room service and dry cleaning.... ;)

The Polynesian would be fun though.. :)

I agree that, if there were room, a Polynesian DVC might be interesting!

A couple of them are getting dated and need some upgrading.

I've stayed at the Grand Floridian, its nice, but I like the Beach Club better.

We DVC members can always splurge and use our points at any of these resorts, something very nice as a part of our membership.

A contemporary DVC resort location allows the possibility of walking to MK, something the others don't have.

Disney is quickly becoming "Time Share Central".
This is a great point, after Eagle Pines to take care of people disiring a great 1st class golf location resort, I think it is time to stop building DVC resorts, until another park is built. Then a resort could be built specific to the new park.

No GF for me but would love to see something at Discovery Island. We always enjoyed going there. Annmarie

I do not get why every single discussion board slams the Grand Floridian. This hotel is the most beautiful and most upscale resort at WDW and all of Orlando as well. How can people seriously compare this place to the Polynesian and Contempary and think that it is not as good. The Poly and the Contemp are fun and everything but they are no where near the league of the Grand Floridian.I guess alot of the reason is that most of the people who write on these boards have kids and the Floridian is not as kid friendly as the others. When I bring friends along with me to WDW they all agree that the Floridian is number 1, and although the Poly and Contemp are fun they all laugh about how 1970's these two places are. I guess some people think that places like the Grand Floridian are just a little too nice for themselves.

The Grand Floridian is beautiful, I've stayed there before on my honeymoon. While it does have proximity to MK which is great when you have kids, it doesn't have great proximity to the other parks and evening activities that we enjoy. It's nice they added the new zero entry pool and slide, and it's nice to hang out on the beach. However, I prefer the Epcot Resort area for it's evening proximity to Epcot dining, and activities around Crecent Lake. I guess I also think that being on the monorail line is over rated. I find the Crecent Lake boats preferable, more leasurely, fun to be on the water, etc. for park transportation. The GF is definitely the best resort on the monorail line today, your point about the other two 70's resorts does have some merit, they are dated. I think the Wilderness Lodge is better than the poly or contemporary. But it's nice to have options and to try different resorts out. We don't see ourselves shelling out the high point values for Poly or Contemporary, but would consider the Grand Floridian. But it doesn't make sense to shell out such high points for a hotel you find less desirable than YC, BC and BCV. Might as well stay where you enjoy.

Although a DVC resort at Discovery Island is a very appealing idea, I believe it's unrealistic in terms of construction costs and ongoing costs. It would cost substantially more to build than a resort on land because all construction materials, equipment, and workers would need to be loaded and unloaded from barges. And the resort would need its own, dedicated fire station and emergency services.

With all the land available at the former Disney Institute site and the Eagle Pines site, it will be many years before Disney Vacation Development (DVD) will need to select another new site at WDW.
