Who to COMPLAIN TOO...READ!!!

I also want to stress that a handwritten, mailed letter has much more impact than an email.

For those that can- take some time and write a letter- not a form letter but as mentioned- something from the heart- why you play vmk and why you think it should be kept going strong.

I did send an email but will also work on my written letter

yes, email and then print and mail. I agree. Physically seeing letters has more impact.

I did send an e-mail, but I stressed that I am a Disney stockholder (I am, 15 shares), and I appealed to the business side. I told them I was not happy with Disney shutting down a site which promotes Disney goodwill and name recognition, and even though it was a 'free' site, children (especially mine) were thrilled to visit the parks in order to actually see their favorite lands and rides, not to mention the stores, like the Emporium.

If you are a Disney Stockholder, even if the stock is held in a 401 or other savings plan, please send them a message and let them know you're not happy. It may help get the point across.

They need to hear both the profit and the emotional aspect to this closing.

They are losing money. They are the ones who chose to lose money when they closed down the Park kiosks. They are the ones who chose to lose money by getting rid of all the in park quests. They also chose to lose money by getting rid of the VMK items in the DMR. Which those sales were nothing but complete profit for them. Now they are choosing to lose money from the sales of the pirate pins. I remember they completely sold out and were on back order only a day or two after they were released.

I can't understand how they cannot see how they are losing money. There are endless possibilities for VMK to make them money and they have consistently treated it as the ugly step-child that no one wants.

How on earth can you run a successful business this way? And not only to get rid of profit making items, but to also alienate 250,000 customers?

I also agree that we should send snail mail.

I will be doing all 3 things: calling, email and snail mail. the snail mail will also be in my own handwriting. Probably with tear stains as I'm sure I'll be crying as I write it.

Thanks Bug. Here is the letter I wrote to Mr. Wadsworth that is going out in the mail today. I plan to send it or a similar one to anyone snail and e-mail address I can find. Heh.

April 8, 2008

Dear Mr. Stephen H. Wadsworth,

I am writing you today to ask that you do not close the Virtual Magic Kingdom. I was saddened and truly disappointed to hear yesterday that you are ending our virtual park. Living in Southern California, Disneyland has always been only a few hours away and I make regular visits. Many people aren't so fortunate to enjoy such regular Disneyland exposure. And that's where VMK comes in.

VMK is modeled after the Happiest Place on Earth. It is a place where kids and adults (the Kids at Heart) can go to enjoy the Magic of Disney, online from anywhere in the world. You have other, amazing websites at which people can read about Disney, play games or see pictures, but they pale in comparison to the interaction of VMK. Being able to walk through the likeness of Disneyland, even virtually, is marvelous. You do have other on-line worlds (Pirates, ToonTown) that are fun, but these are themed too narrowly. They don't have the broad strokes of VMK.

In VMK, as in the real Disneyland, a person can walk down a Main Street that is reminiscent of Walt's own hometown. They can visit a futuristic world of Tomorrow, play pirate or explorer in a land of Adventure, dream fairytales of witches and royalty in Fantasyland, and more! VMK lets a player dress-up in fantastic costumes, cast spells, play games, build rooms, take quests, or just hang out surrounded by the Disney theme. The most important part is that people get to interact with other Disney fans in a safe, positive environment and form amazing friendships.

I am a thirty-five year old adult, with no children, a middle-class income and I work in the IT profession. I carry, and proudly use daily, a Disney Platinum Visa card. I am a Premium Annual Passholder at Disneyland and have been for seven years. I collect Disney DVDs, Department 56 houses, assorted other memorabilia, and am an avid Pin Collector/Trader (complete with vest, dozens of lanyards, and bulletin boards). I understand that running an internet game has its costs, so I ask you to consider this... Before VMK I would visit DLR maybe five times a year. VMK has doubled that. Each visit is at least a $150 spent on food, pins, etc. I love the VMK Pins and wish there were more. I also wish packs of code cards (old and new) could be purchased like baseball cards. I buy more DVDs when VMK offers Movie Rewards. I would be willing to pay a monthly or annual fee to play VMK.

I know VMK was created to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Disneyland, but let's think about that. Walt created a place for everyone to enjoy and that place has not only thrived for a half-century, but has expanded to locations around the globe and now digitally in to cyberspace. I urge you to reconsider your plans to close VMK. Think how great it will be to celebrate DLR's 100th Anniversary with VMK's 50th!

Sincerely,

I did bold the part about paying a fee in my actual letter. I then used my Goofy Stamp next to my signature and put a USPS Disney Stamp on the outside of the envelope.
