I have been hearing what sounds like a cat meowing yesterday. It wasn't my cat, so I figured it was just outside. My daughter complained of hearing it last night and this morning. Well, I went to the basement for an unrelated reason, and I believe there is a cat trapped up in the insulation below the floor. I was calling to it and it was meowing. . .but I did get kind of freaked out. . .it's dark and I was afraid. . maybe. ..just maybe it wasn't a cat. :scared1: So I didn't start pulling insulation down to find it. Who should I call? I don't know if animal control will come out for this type of thing. Would it be dumb to call a non-emergency number??:confused3

Cat Watch 2010! popcorn::

Seriously, I hope that you are able to get him out. :guilty:

Call animal control asap. You don't want the animal to die up there, do you?

Oh my gosh! I would be doing everything I could to get the poor thing out!

I would call animal control and if they won't help then a pest control company. They are experienced with getting under houses and dealing with this sort of thing (have you seen Billy the Exterminator??!!)

ETA: Pest control place will charge you so that may be an issue. But if it is an animal and it expires under there the smell may get into your house and be unbearable.

No, I don't want it to die in there!!!! :scared1:

But I was trying to coax it over where I thought it looked like it possibly got up there. It sounded so lost! :(

But I have a major rodent phobia and just got freaked out being there by myself. I know. I suck. I think I will try again and maybe leave some food out.

I did call animal control and had to leave a message. I hope they call back.

Please give us updates. :goodvibes

I would probably do whatever I could to get that little guy out!! And then I would keep him.........lol

Well, I don't think my cat will let me keep him/her. But she is giving me the "Timmy's trapped in the well" look.

My mom and my cousin are coming over. We'll see if we can't get it out.

I'll keep you posted.

I would be very careful. It is very possible that it isn't a cat. And no matter what it is you don't know it's health status. I would leave it to the professionals.

Actually I would leave it to my husband who would decide he was going to take care of it to save us the money of the pest control company, thus causing any number of things to happen which would most likely end up costing us more in medical bills, home repair and probably therapy for me and my girls than the exterminator call would have.:lmao:

If you don't hear from animal control soon, I would try and call the police department non-emergency line. I don't know if your local PD can do this - but I'm a dispatcher at the PD here and we have a direct on-call number to animal control we can call for situations like this to get someone out there ASAP. Like I said, there might not be anything the PD can do, but it's worth a shot!

I would definitely call the non emergency number for the police and ask them for the ac emergency number. ( if they wont give it to you, ask them to page him for you)

Whew!

Animal control called back and suggested that I put some food and water out down there. That way if I knew some had been eaten, they have traps I could catch the cat in.

Sounded ok. So I took a can of food down there. . .and this fairly large, fluffy, black cat came flying down out of the ceiling at me!!! :faint: Well, now I know she wasn't trapped up there, just trapped in the basement. I moved the food outside and let her have it. She belongs to somebody around here, because I have seen her before. Hopefully, once she fills her belly she'll hurry along home.

Now, if you will all excuse me while I change my pants.

Glad it is all taken care of and was easy and relatively painless.:thumbsup2

not to freak you out any more but I would check around where the cat came out to make sure Miss Kitty doesnt have kittens! ) I just saw animal cops where they said cats like warm places like that for their babies!
