It's been a long year but I need a refresher course (which I know will be handed to me instantly here }. Weren't originally masks worn to protect mainly others from the wearer who might have covid or be asymptomatic?? And yes I was going to look for that one meme that tried to explain that situation via peeing.

One other quick question......why would those vaccinated be still concerned of those not vaccinated.

I don't think they will roll this back. I think with adults being able to get a vaccine, it now comes down to personal choice.

Many people in my family have a blood condition called Hemochromatosis, and -- while it has no cure -- the treatment is to donate blood more often than is recommended; donating blood allows the body to divest itself of excessive iron in the blood, a thing that doesn't happen naturally for a person with this condition.

Off-topic: If you have a single drop of Irish blood in your body, you should be tested for Hemochromatosis. If you are not Irish, your chances of having this condition are practically nil.

As we all recall, the mask doesn't protect the wearer, it's primary purpose is to stop an infected person from spewing their particles out into the air.

Many months ago they came out and said masks do offer some protection to the wearer. It would be illogical to think/say/assume they don't. If they can stop "germs" getting out, they must offer protection from "germs getting in.

I'm not going to lie it actually crossed my mind and I wondered out loud to my husband about it, not about being harassed more like the assumption if you're in a store right now without a mask you'll be assumed to just be someone who dropped wearing it not assumed to be a fully vaccinated person. I know in my area mask wearing compliance has been fairly good so I don't think it would be as big as I my mind is making it out to be but with the mask mandates in my area being dropped in combination with some large (and some small) businesses going to the honor system (even if some places like Walmart were anyways) it's like boom all almost at once. There are still places maintaining their mask requirements in our area as far as stores (and school districts) so you'll still see masks.

Not to mention my friend who lives in the county next to me (college town) was like "but I want to continue to wear my mask so I won't be mistaken for a _________" (fill in political affiliation ....) and I even cringe at that because I really disliked how that became such a flashpoint.

I know eventually that stuff won't be assumed as a wider amount of people stopped wearing masks just a weird time IMO at the moment in a sorta limbo if that makes sense.

I am wrestling with this- if children are required to wear masks at school (and they are) then why shouldn't adults wear masks to support the kids? Last year, it was all about protecting grandparents, yet, they're the first ones to go out without masks.

I had someone say to me twice ' I thought you were vaccinated. Why are you still wearing a mask?" My reply 'We protected the elderly last year, the kids aren't vaccinated. We need to protect them now.'

Where I know it's adults only, I won't wear a mask, but if there are kids, I'm still wearing a mask.

A relative of mine just posted a picture on Facebook and she had her mask on. She had a really nasty comment from a supposed friend of hers ripping into her for still wearing a mask.

Last year there were many unpleasant voices expressing varying degrees of expendability of over 55's.
Now it's more polite, but basically the under 12's are on their own.
I am not a fan of either unkind extreme. We can all do our part to help.
I believe that religious leaders could help encourage mask wearing in multi-generational service settings if they wished to.

I'm in Northern CA and just came back from Costco, everyone was still wearing masks I couldn't see if they still had the sign up on the door but I wasn't going to take mine off unless I saw the majority of people maskless. I would love to go shopping again without one, I'm fully vaccinated. I also shop at Trader Joe's and Sprouts and I'm assuming it will be the same at those stores because we are in CA, maybe they will be lifted on June 15th? I'm ready to get rid of the masks, just don't enjoy the judgement and stares from other people.

So I went to Costco today and the lady at the front said local mandates require that I ask if you have a mask. I smiled and said I did and then went about my business in the store maskless. Nobody said a word and the checker was very cordial. This was in a bluer part of Orange County that has it's own city wide mask mandate. I was literally the only one I saw in the store without a mask, save for the few "fence sitters" with their noses sticking out. If everyone waits for everyone else to take off their masks then we'll all be waiting! Be the change you want to see in the world!

The kids aren't at risk! They never have been. Yes there are odd cases here and there where kids have longer effects or even die, but the flu is far more dangerous to them. I have children - 9 and almost 12 and I have never once been overly concerned about Covid for them. I've been concerned about them passing it on their grandparents, but not for them. We can't keep up all this theater saying we're protecting the children when they don't need to be protected! The media (and the government) has done a terrific job scaring everyone that people's risk analysis is so far out of whack. I will have to search for for the link to back it up, but in the past year 20K+ US kids under 14 have died - out of those only 67 were due to Covid.

Thats really weird. My sister is pregnant and her doctor advised her to get the vaccine, although he wanted her to wait until 2nd trimester. But as soon as she hit the 14 week mark, she got her first shot. She’s 20 weeks now - just had an ultrasound. From what I understand, pregnant women are among the highest risk of adverse outcomes from COVID.

My SIL is almost 8 months pregnant and she was advised by her OB not to get it. And her OB isn’t anti-vaxx because she did have her get the flu shot & Tdap.

All three of my kids, one fully vaccinated, two on their way all said the same as your friend. The poster I quoted thinks vaccinated/unmasked people are going to harass masked people because it will be assumed they are not vaccinated. I personally just don’t see that being a thing (or at least a common one) outside of the internet. I think that for a lot of reasons I’ll decline to get into. I’ll gladly admit I’m wrong if that turns out to not be the case.

CDC even spent time in my town to see how we kept kids in school-even if "asymptomatic" covid by doing the quarantine in school-so they didn't have to miss days. Dr Tracy Hoeg did a Wisconsin study at height of their cases in schools.

Google Dr Monica Gandhi-she has done some really truly excellent articles and podcasts on immunity, masks, variants and kids (most striking is her showing how as more adults get vaxed the risk to kids drops by several points). She is an HIV researcher/doctor so she actually knows her stuff.

If you don't know that the majority of extended school closures were largely directed by various large teachers unions and their political influences, I don't know what to tell you.

But...why? The CDC and the ACOG both recommend the vaccine for pregnant women. They’re at higher risk for complications from COVID. It’s so strange to me that doctors are going against these recommendations.
