Who thinks Disney is trying to Re-Open too soon?

It amazes me that there are people who can rationalize going back to Disneyworld in the middle of a Pandemic. How can going to a theme park ever be worth jeopardizing your very life, or your families lives, or someone in your Community when you get back home? Yes I understand economics and that some more essential places have to re-open in order for life to go on. Disneyworld is Not one of those places. We won't die if we can't go there; but we MIGHT DIE if we do. I'm so very disappointed in Disney. I truly expected better from them. I will never be able to view Disneyworld as my happy place again... now that I know they are willing to let people die there just to make more money from us. The New Disneyworld: The GERMIEST Place on Earth!

The media has convinced people that if you get this virus, you will die. That is simply not the case. Most people who get the virus will recover. Like another poster just said, there is risk associated with everything and everyday of your life. The most dangerous thing a person does on a daily basis is drive/ride in a car. But people still do it. You can die on a plane, but people still fly. Every activity we do carries a risk. You just have to determine if the risk is worth it to you.

Yeah, you can't really answer this question until they announce a date, list all their new protective measures, and we see how people act in the park.

But hey - If you're going to judge them now, that's just one fewer person in front of me in line next trip.

Wow - as far as I can tell, Disney has announced 2 things officially. Shanghai Disneyland will be opening at about 25% capacity with significant protocols in place. And a few stores and restaurants will be opening at Disney Springs, with controlled/reduced capacity. The DS announcement is no different from other local restaurants and stores in the Orlando area being allowed to open with restrictions.

So how can you be ripping into Disney so much for something they haven't even done yet? Not to mention, you sound like you're making an assumption that anyone who visits DisneyWorld might die. Plus - isn't a choice if people return (when they eventually do open) or not? No one will be forced to go there until they are ready to do so. If you wish to stay away, then you should.

SMH. A little over the top. Considering that Disney has not announced a date for reopening their US theme parks, I think it’s a little premature to be painting them as being too focused on profit while ignoring the health and safety of their guests. But I would go tomorrow, wear a mask, social distance and wash my hands often. I just need to figure out how to drink my margarita without a straw while sporting a mask.

Look, even if they were to open tomorrow, no one is forcing anyone to go. The only thing that would make me disappointed is people who would choose to go knowing the risk and then complaining/blaming Disney if they contract the virus. It would be a PR nightmare for Disney even with the best guidelines, if there was direct correlation between the parks and a surge of COVID-19, which is why they have not reopened any of the U.S. parks yet.

My thing is and has always been: I need to be able to test (and confirm) I have antibodies before rejoining society in general.

Before you feel your magical place is ruined just keep in mind some things the first being the parks do not have a opening date as of this writing.

Next, WDW has a large challenge to face. I personally wear a mask whenever I go out. I go out grocery shopping and sometimes to pick up food. I am not wearing it all day as I am home most of the day. I believe it is the responsible thing to do at this time. I am hoping for significant improvements in COVID-19 prevention and treatment because I can tell you now with a vacation booked in November, I am not wearing a mask for my 12-15 hour days at WDW. I would rather cancel my vacation because for me, that would be a dealbreaker. I believe right now people should wear masks.

Like I said WDW has a large challenge ahead. If masks for guests were mandatory, I'm sure there's people who will not want to wear a mask for 12 hours in Florida heat like me. So people like us don't go, that's a safe and responsible thing, don't participate. But then there's people who feel like me and won't want to wear a mask but will go on their trip. Disney has to now deal with that conflict. OK, you wear masks. You wanna go in the pool and several people wanna take it off for that. OK, well if you're going to expose/be exposed for 3 hours at the pool then why not 8 hours at the park? So OK you go to the park with your masks. Your kids take off a mask, another kid takes off their mask you yell they put it back on. Their cranky and hungry and thirsty so you pull the mask down they eat their food in the ziploc bags, they drink their juice box, all uncovered. You'll have people like me who have been exposed to the virus and doesn't care. You'll have cautious people. You'll have angry people there with their elderly parent and now they berate you for giving your kid a juice box in the middle of the park. You have so many variables and so many fears. It's why I actually don't think WDW Parks will open with masks, at least not for long.

You have to appreciate the fact they have to think about these things. It's easy to put a bullet point on a website and say if you're coming here you're wearing a mask. It becomes a novel policy once the masks continually go on and off. You're told by a CM to put your mask back on, well now Disney isn't this magical place "they're mean to me". So these are the issues with just one policy they have to think about before reopening. Now imagine all the others. How do they know how effective they will be?

They're going to a phased reopening of Disney Springs and that will help them see what people will do in a setting that requires no admission fee. This is a chance for them to hope to get answers to policy issues they are considering. Maybe my theories above aren't as bad and they see people can stay at Disney Springs for 6 hours and never remove a mask except to eat in an indoor socially distanced setting. Maybe they'll find flaws in the socially distanced dining areas and learn from them.

So how soon is too soon? Unfortunately it's a learn as you go situation. I think they need to learn and Disney Springs is a good way to do that. Maybe they do open too soon and all their policies go out the window because people will do whatever they want like we all usually do and it was a mistake. Do I blame them? No, because it's a choice. I think if you have a June 5th reservation and now there's policies announced last minute that will make your vacation miserable so you cancel and they try to ding you for that, then sure I blame Disney for that because now you're coerced into going. Otherwise, it's a personal decision but if people are going to go and think it's going to be a super sanitized place with everyone wearing masks, I hope they have the Genie to make that wish come true. It's going to be sloppy. You going to order a coke and hotdog go where to drink it? You'll have to take off the mask and eat. So you try to social distance and someone's kids scurries by you and now you're the monster exposing their kids to potential coronavirus. Is it your fault? No of course not. If WDW opens in my opinion the only one to blame is whoever went and thought the consequences wouldn't apply to them.

That said, if you can go and you're either willing to accept the risk or you have antibodies are feeling confident you should enjoy it all if you can. I don't think you should let the attempt to gauge how people will adapt as a unmagical place now. You shouldn't let anything take that away from you, it's a special place for you and it should be, even if it can't be right now.

While I won't go as soon as they open, it's only because my hubby doesn't want me to and it's not worth the fight that would ensue, I will go some time this year. Will I wear a mask? I really don't know right now. I've only been one place that I've had to wear one since mid-March and that was 2 weeks ago to the grocery store. I live in Georgia and it's not required, again hubby insisted I wear one. I have been going into an empty office once a week to pick up mail, hubby has been to the grocery store 3 times, he wore a mask the last two. If, when I go, Disney requires guest do so, I'll have to decide at that time if the trip is worth it to me. If they don't require one, I probably won't wear one. Sorry if that offends anyone but by then I will have most likely been isolated from the general public for more than two or three months so I'll know I don't have it to pass on. I'm willing to risk it, I'll just do what I always do, wash my hands when I go to the bathroom and before I eat and probably use any sanitation stations they have around after I get off a ride. I'm not in the habit of sticking my hands in my mouth or nose although I do rub my eyes every once in awhile but not too often at Disney because I either have on sunglasses or my reading glasses. If, by chance I go and get sick, that is on me not Disney, I will know the risks and am a grown up adult.

Agree, I'm amazed at how many people panic and how few people do the basic research to find out the real stats

One thing Disney does risk to themselves by reopening in an extremely diminished capacity is drastically disappointing people. I do say it would be more advisable to them to be closed until they feel they can operate normally

I was in Disney the December following 9/11. It was not “normal” but it was not disappointing. Disney found a way to make it magical even though there were drastic reductions in park hours, attractions and entertainment. It wasn’t the same Disney. And I won’t expect it to be the same Disney when they open post-CV19.

Yeah I assume it'll never be the old normal ever again anywhere. But what I meant was more normally than what they've announced so far. It's different from back then since Disney prices increased far past inflation since then. And I really do feel requiring guests to wear masks (as they've said is a definite possibility) is definitely going too far. Most places don't require that.

If WDW opens soon, presumably it would be with fairly significant risk controls and even with those controls guests would need to sign a liability waiver I would think.

I would not go. I'm 54. Not until there is a viable treatment, a vaccine, or the # of infected drops significantly. I'll continue to save my money, protect my life and health, and splurge on a couple of luxury vacations when the time is right.
