Who thinks Disney is over rated?

I just heard on the news here, the Bears, not Super Bowl contenders, are raising prices again. "Standard' seats range from $60 to $95, and a game lasts about 3 or so hours. Family of 4, admission only, $240 to $380, for the afternoon.

And if the Bears keep it up, maybe I'll go to Chicago someday! But I'll have to take out a loan!! :scared:

I think it is a good value. Entertainment, of any kind, and certainly quality entertainment, is very costly. Go to a MLB, NBA, NFL game, tickets, food, 3 hours....$$$$$. Go to a nice resort, sans the the theme parks, for a week....$$$$$. Entertainment is costly, and Disney has some of the highest quality available.

Exactly. Compared to other venues, Disney isn't really that outrageously priced. When a family of four can shell out over $200 for a three hour ball game, it kind of puts things into perspective. Let's face it, EVERYTHING is expensive nowdays!

I think WDW is the type of vacation that you have to DEDICATE yourself to.

You have to spend many weeks, months, sometimes years saving and planning to make it happen.

For most of us, it's impossible to "just pop down for a few days". It's the kind of trip that requires a commitment. We save all year for our trip.

I really don't think Disney overcharges. When you stop to think of how many CM's it takes every day (and those people want to be paid), how many resources (water, electricity, etc) it takes to make you comfortable, and how much behind-the-scenes maintenance and upkeep it takes....well no wonder park tickets cost what they do.

As far as the cost of food, we don't find it anymore expensive than it is for us to eat out at home. We find most of our meals at WDW worth every dime we pay for them. Once again...when you consider the fact that they have to pay for the food, someone to transport it, someone to cook it, serve it, and clean up after you...then it's not such a bad deal.

I think the Deluxes are very high this year but I have no problem with the prices of the tickets or food. I live in a suburb of Philadelphia so what I'm used to paying may not be what other parts of the county are paying for food. We do 8 days where else can we go & not pay what were paying at Disney. Even the Jersey shore is about the same. DH & I think WDW is a DEAL. What we get with our park tickets is awesome.

Overrated, No Way! we love disney! But Overpriced you betcha!

YUP!! :scared: Prices are soooo high.

There are lots of ways to save money though. Check out the discount boards. We used to stay cheap in the "early" years. My kids thought that Days Inns were palaces. :lmao: Hey, they were easy to impress :teeth:

We always went as cheaply as we could...never ate in the nice WDW restaurants...that way we could afford to go back again.

I've justified Disney by looking at the prices of going to a movie that may last 2 hrs - we pay around $8 x 4 = $32 for 2 hrs of entertainment (without adding in the popcorn that most eat while there!) & many many of us will do that at least once or twice a month (my folks go every Fri night! but squak & Dis prices!)

The other way I've looked @ prices for the dinner show (hoop de do) is if I went out for the evening to the civic center for say the opera or such I'm paying MINIMUM $25 a head & then we'll usually eat out before going to the show so that's another $25 (no drinks, thank you) so we'll spend $75 on a special night out like that & not think twice about it since it's for V-day or B'day or Ann....so dinner + entertainment anywhere = Disney prices, except Disney you get to be there MUCH longer.....

Divide your ticket price by the # of hours your @ the parks - in our case it's usually @ least 12 hrs & see how much you're spending per hour---it's not much at all if you think of it that way....

For me, Disney is priceless and probably will never be overrated. I wasn't able to go until 2 years ago (when I was 21), but always dreamed of it as a kid. WDW is something that can never be replaced, it gives me the feeling of freedom and innocence that I wasn't able to experience when I was younger so I am extremely appreciative for that. Price wise, certain things maybe expense, but being from NYC it isn't much of a difference. Hotels, transportation, shopping, food...everything here can be considered very expensive. Many ppl my age don't understand my fascination with Disney, but to each his/her own. I love it and I actually think WDW is under-appreciated by far too many people. :confused3

Disney is absolutely overpriced. we have one AP and two SP's and we pay about $750.00 per year. we also have AP's to Universal which we renew for $300.00 per year. the discounts we get at Universal more than pay for the AP's, which means we get to go to Universal for less than free. I love WDW, but unless I'm walking into the MK, I just don't get the 'magic' anymore. we never go to Epcot or the AK anymore, but we love the TOT and Fantasmic, so we hit MGM whenever. we stayed at ASMovies after a MVMCP last year and it was filthy. scuff marks on the doors and peeling paint.

In a way I do and the prices are just making it almost impossible for a family to go for a week even on the value resorts, am I the only one thinking this way?
Overrated, NO WAY!!! We love WDW. I'm sick that its a whole 7 months until we'll be back there again.

Overpriced, not really either. Their prices compare to any resort or amusement area. We just got back from an indoor waterpark in Ohio. In comparison if we spent a week there, vs a week in WDW, it probably would have cost us more money at the waterpark. My cousin goes to Rohobeth Beach every year with her family, she spends as much as my family minus the airfare for our trips to WDW.

All resort areas are expensive.

I think WDW is pricey, but worth the cost. My only problem is that it take so long for us to save to go again.

Overpriced. Single day admission is comparable with other parks. Kings Island is an hour from here, and I can get a season pass for four people for $300. Sure it might not be magical like Disney, but the kids and I have a great time. I can go to Kings Dominion and Carowinds if I want with free admission. And the waterpark next to it is free with admission too.

2004 was the last time we went to WDW, and we used a Disney Visa promotion where the kids got free tickets. I was satisfied with the price, but I don't think Visa has had a good discount since then.

We love WDW and think it is well worth the cost.

It really depends upon your individual circumstances.

If you go skiing, lift tickets at fancier areas can approach or surpass WDW ticket prices. $$ We live in Florida, so have to rent equipment. $$ We only ski once a year, so like to have at least one "brush-up" lesson, especially if it's a new resort, and we don't know the mountain. $$ Our children keep growing, so we have to purchase (they're opposite genders) clothing that we can't wear at home. $$ We always put our children in ski lessons, so that everyone could ski at his/her own level, then we got together for a family ski before/after lessons or toward the end of the week. $$

We don't live near any ski areas, so always have to fly and rent a car. $$

The hotel/condo/restaurant choices are usually more limited at ski areas, so you're forced to pay the going rate. $$

Try going to a place like Atlantis; makes WDW look like a bargain.

If I compare the price of tickets with Cedar Point or Kings Island, ther is NO way I can say that WDW is over priced. The hotel costs at Cedar Point are outrageous. I had to search and get lucky to find a hotel for $80/night for a dirty and somewhat nasty hotel where I still had to drive to CP for. Not a good deal IMO compared to Disney. At least the All Stars are much nicer than what I stayed in for the same price.

Also, no joke, I had to spend $10 for lunch when I was there. That's $3 more than what I normally spend on the same items. Food costs more at CP than WDW!

I also went to Islands of Adventure earlier this month for the first time ever. That made me appreciate WDW even more.

I am a DVC memeber and a PAP holder, so obviously Disney does something right to get me to do that ;)

Have not read all the responses.

I think Disney is probably the only place you can vacation and be totally immersed in one theme. I don't think it's over-rated, but I do think it's definately over-priced.

I don't think it's the only place I'd want to vacation. I love going on cruises, I'd love an island land vacation. There's a total "feeling" you get while at Disney though, that I've never experienced anywhere else.

It's ironic I found this thread after recently visiting the official Disney site. First off...I've been searching for awhile now on a good spot to stay with 5 of us. We have 4 adults in our party now with two of our sons being over 17.

I've been looking at suite possibilites offsite; I have been (and still am) quietly waiting for Teacher rates to pop up for my dates at the Swan/Dolphin; I have been toying with getting 2 rooms at the Disney values.

Well.......last night I went to the Disney site, put in my dates, put in our info and submitted. Up came all the resorts and their estimates of prices. That's when I see they have 2-room suites say at AKL. Having been looking at suites (offsite) for awhile now not realizing they have 2 room suites onsite I quickly press the pricing range on this possibility.

Ready for this.....I literally choked on my coffee!!! The price came up $10,000 for 7 nights!!!!! $10,000!! I mean I know this is onsite and I know this is at a deluxe but still!! IMHO that is WAY overpriced!

I totally agree. Personally I can't think of a better deal when compared to other entertainment options.

My only problem is the way things are run these days, and because of that, I do think the management of the parks, including the CM's, is overrated.

Try doing a seach for the DVC (Disney Vacation Club) suites thats what you want. I think you got the "ROCK STAR "suits " Presidental" ones. AKL has breathtaking suites. If you look at them on ALLEARS...you would agree they are not over priced. Most of us do not need a Dinning room that seats 12 while on vacation.

You can get alot of info off the 2 other resort boards. I'm on them everyday. Also check out the codes & rates board. princess:

:cool2: :confused3 I think they might be on there way to pricing people out of a vacation ..........to me it's worth every cent...... :woohoo: princess: :moped:  :worship:
