Who taught you how to cook?

The Frugal Gourmet, I had forgot about that show until you brought it up. Thanks for the blast from the past ... I wonder if you youtube that if any shows would show up. I remember learning from him too. :)

From about the time I was 9 or 10, I was given a day of the week to cook (it was Wednesday, my sister had Thursday) and this lasted until I went to University. I had to come up with the meal and give my mom the grocery list on the weekend if she needed to pick up anything. Only rules were that we could not make the same meal in a month, it needed to include some sort of vegetable and Kraft Dinner was not a meal. So, I have been cooking from a young age. However, I hate cooking and am glad that my DH doesn't mind it. I would much prefer to bake.

I REALLY like that idea of kids having a day to be totally responsible to put dinner on the table! After the first few weeks I bet the meals would be terrific!

I grew up on Swanson TV dinners. Remember when they came wrapped in tin foil :).

When I was 13 I used to rush home from school to watch "The Frugal Gourmet" on PBS. I would also check out tons of cookbooks from the library. Self taught, wish I had someone to teach me. It is a pleasure teaching my girls :).

My Mom's idea of cooking was canned soup and 1/2 of a sandwich for lunch. She still does that at age 81. Supper was always something from a can. Or liver and onions. She had a menu and it was the same for each week even now.
My Dad loves when I visit. I cook healthy but tasty for them. Mom was always so involved in the company business that she really never had the time to cook and she couldn't cook. Neither can my sisters. I guess I'm the chef thanks to Grandma.
I loved the Frugal Gourmet!:lmao:
My kids ask for real noodles and call everyday for what to make for supper:)

My Mom, Dad, Uncle, Julia Child and the Joy of Cooking.

I honestly think I learned the most from the joy of cooking.

I have to say, I hated it then (as I couldn't make any plans for after school on the night I cooked!) but am thankful for it now. At the very least, I can follow a recipe and wouldn't starve if I needed to feed myself :rotfl:
