Who takes their laptop with them?

I was thinking of taking mine but where do you keep it safe or do you just leave it sitting about your hotel/villa?

We are staying at SSR then a cruise and a bit concerned about leaving a £700 laptop around and not locked away.

Any advice welcome. Thanks! :)

We do, used to squeeze it in the safe but it ot marked, then justleft under some clothes, this year taking ipad so will go in safe

We take a Macbook (last time was a pro this time will be an air) and at least 2 iPads - never bother putting them in the safe.

Macbook usually sits on the desk and iPads wherever they happen to be left!

I didn't until last year's volcanic ash episode in April when I watched countless folk stranded and struggling to source alternative options, access online information and a whole list of other costly inconveniences. I will never travel without one again. I also use it for backing up my photos and videos every day and have the option of paying (onsite) for internet access if required to get in touch with my family.

Store mine out of sight in a locked suitcase
Also used for photo / video backup / trippie notes /
If you have web cam - then SKYPE to make free / cheap phone calls :thumbsup2

I'm taking mine and I think it will be too large to fit into the room safe, so I intend to lock it in my case with my combination locks

We take 2 laptops a netbook and this trip Matt bought an Ipad. If housekeeping has not been we put them in bags/drawers out of sight, once they have been we leave them out.
Depends how important it is to you, if it is worth £700 and a lot of irreplaceable stuff on then I might think twice about taking it, ours are worth maybe £350ish each and although a pain to replace nothing too much to worry about.
Make sure you are insured(most policies only cover upto £300-400) and back up anything important.

Yup, I take my Macbook Air and 2 iPads. they all fit nicely into the Disney safe but usually the laptop is Kingston locked to something and in plain sight as I use it for a live Disneycam.

Not sure what I'll do with the Air this time as it doesn't seem to have a hole for a Kingston lock.

A full sized laptop will not fit in a Disney resort safe (just in case anyone needs to make alternative storage arrangements while there)

In fact, if you stay at a value or moderate, I can't see a netbook being crammed into there either so if you want to secure it and don't usually lock your luggage for the flight a padlock/combi lock may be a good item to add to the packing list :goodvibes

A full size will fit, we have had it in pop, csr and pofq! Its a 15.4 inch screen which is a widescreen one too, as i said the outside got a bit marked from where it was shut but it did fit

The safe in all the Saratoga Springs resort rooms we have stayed in were very small and not big enough for our small laptop to fit into. We usually visit every year and leave the laptop on the desk and have never had a problem with any losses at any of the resorts we have stayed in SSR, BC, BCV, YC, AKL, and BLT.

I take my netbook - after we got stuck in the US for 10 days during the volcanic ash fiasco, I would never travel without it. It made life so much easier and cheaper (Skype!).

We have taken ours each trip and use them for photo and video backups, checking in with the world via facebook (or our own website when we had one), looking for restaurant menus/prices, opening times, skype and much more besides. I tend to back up everything at home before we leave just in case it either gets stolen, lost or broken. On that note I would suggest copying your pics onto the laptop as opposed to emptying your memory from the camera. Yes it gives you lots of memory space - but think of the memories you will lose if your laptop dies.
We usually stay in a villa and have never felt the need to hide it away, though if we knew that someone was due to come into the villa while we were out we probably wouldn't leave it in view.

How do people usually access the internet on your laptop in Disney World? We're staying in SSR and I read you can get wired internet for $10 a day - is this right? :goodvibes

Yes its $9.95 for a 24 hour period, some people try get 2 days out of 1 payment. Last month it cost us $129.35 for the 16 nights we were there.

I use one of these for the villa and fasten it around the water pipes either under the sink or around the cylinder

cant post links but have a look at a travelsafe 12l

I took mine to Las Vegas & Tenerife, It wasnt big enough for the safe so I just left it in random places that I think 'nobody would think to look'

Thanks for all the replies and advice! Decided to leave the laptop at home because my brother's GF is taking her Ipad. :)

I like my internet, but not that much, tbh the only possible way I'd do it is if I was in a villa, that might be a bit different, but I hardly feel the urge to log online when I have Mickey Mouse & Co running around outside.

Possibly a relaxing holiday I might consider, but then again probably not.
