It just seems odd that they have not mentioned the TIW coming to DVC perks in nay other official DVC information other than the annual meeting considering it is suppossed to be available in 2012. Thanks for the link to the annual meeting recap.
..Plus you are adding TiW into the mix. TiW is always late in releasing a full list of restaurants each year. (Disney-owned are a given, but many are independently owned and must sign annual contracts with TiW...)
Is the TiW a good choice? We have done DDP in the past, but we wouldn't always order a dessert. We did like not having to watch the prices on the menu, as we do enjoy things on the higher end of the menu prices. We aren't looking to do a "budget" trip, but rather enjoy a nice TS meal each day. There are some fab CS places, too!
At the Passholder price of $75, you would need to spend $375 in pre-discount dining and beverages to break even. For comparison, the FL Resident (non-passholder) price is $100 and the break even amount is $500 pre-discount.
Since the price for DVC members without an annual pass has yet to be announced, there is no way to determine what the break even amount is going to be.
What I do not like about TIW is the automatic 18% tip. Not all servers should get 18% at the Disney restaurants I have been to. I would say at least 1/3 of the servers did not deserve it on our last trip. I usually tip between 10 to 25% depending on the service. I like to decide this according to the service given.
Another problem is that our whole group would have to eat at the same time or purchase multiple TIW cards. Maybe it could be a group add on that is on our cards like ddp is.
If you use the TiW card and don't feel the service deserves the 18% gratuity, ask for a manager and have the automatic gratuity removed. Also let the manager know why you don't feel the service was good so they can address it.
Don't know if TIW would pay for itself in one trip though. I guess it just depends on how much TS dining you will do. We have APs and with multiple trips, and it absolutely does pay for itself.
