Just trying to figure out how the TIW rumor being offered to DVC got started? I haven't seen any mention of it on the member's web site or in the recent Disney Files. Does anyone have any details on this rumor's origin? I would love to be able to get the TIW for my next visit in May.:confused3

During the 2011 Annual Meeting new DVC Vice-President , Claire Bilby, announced that TIW would become available to DVC Members in 2012. No firm start date, cost or any other details were offered.

I'm sure it will be published on the Member site and likely in Portable Perks and Disney Files once the details become available.

Stay Tuned!

It just seems odd that they have not mentioned the TIW coming to DVC perks in nay other official DVC information other than the annual meeting considering it is suppossed to be available in 2012. Thanks for the link to the annual meeting recap.

Not really all that unusual for DVC.

..Plus you are adding TiW into the mix. TiW is always late in releasing a full list of restaurants each year. (Disney-owned are a given, but many are independently owned and must sign annual contracts with TiW...)

Is the TiW a good choice? We have done DDP in the past, but we wouldn't always order a dessert. We did like not having to watch the prices on the menu, as we do enjoy things on the higher end of the menu prices. We aren't looking to do a "budget" trip, but rather enjoy a nice TS meal each day. There are some fab CS places, too!

I think the TIW is th ebest deal going as we are a family of 5 with my 3 daughters all above the 9 yr old kids menu. Having the 20% off from TIW on your entire check, including drinks, appetizers and desserts. We usually don't all get our own desserts and also we like to have an appetizer or two so it TIW works out greta for us. Found myself analyzing restaurant menu's trying to figure out how to maximise the price of DDP when we used dining plan. With TIW card we eat when we want and what we want, so that is a benefit for us. Plus TIW is good for a year so can be used for more than one visit. It also allows us to have more sit down meals if we want than DDP.

Its all a math decision vs your preferences.

And the decision is not exclusive. Some people use DDP (for entree and desert) + TiW (for appetizer and alcohol, I think that works well if you tend to get a bottle of wine) on the same meal

In general, DDP works very well with buffets and kids under 10 (because their DDP is so cheap)

I like that the DDP has given me an easier decision to try new restaurants, but also enjoyed the flexibility of TiW (did not feel as tied to a DDP or even TiW only choice)

We've always found TIW a good deal. We are DVC members and Season Pass holders. We go twice a year, and the trip with the one son pays off the TIW since that boy can EAT. The wife and I don't eat enough to make a Dining plan make sense but we love to eat at the on site resturants the the 20% comes in very handy. Also, one trip involved many family members and we use the TIW to cut them a break as well.

You have to do the math. We used to do the Wine & Dine meal plan and get most expensive bottle of wine we could (I think the limit was $55). However, The last trip, we did the regular dining plan and combined it with TIW. We found that for us and our eating habits, that has worked best for us.

I don't remember that with TIW, but the dining plan does it every year.

At the Passholder price of $75, you would need to spend $375 in pre-discount dining and beverages to break even. For comparison, the FL Resident (non-passholder) price is $100 and the break even amount is $500 pre-discount.

Since the price for DVC members without an annual pass has yet to be announced, there is no way to determine what the break even amount is going to be.

I doubt the DVC TiW will be discounted beyond what a FL Resident pays, I would plan on at least the $100, unless you purchase an AP.

I wonder when it will be available. I'd like to wait and buy it in the spring which is after my AP expires. Hopefully we'll know before the end of January.

What I do not like about TIW is the automatic 18% tip. Not all servers should get 18% at the Disney restaurants I have been to. I would say at least 1/3 of the servers did not deserve it on our last trip. I usually tip between 10 to 25% depending on the service. I like to decide this according to the service given.

Another problem is that our whole group would have to eat at the same time or purchase multiple TIW cards. Maybe it could be a group add on that is on our cards like ddp is.

If you use the TiW card and don't feel the service deserves the 18% gratuity, ask for a manager and have the automatic gratuity removed. Also let the manager know why you don't feel the service was good so they can address it.

Got to agree with this suggestion. If I'm considering tipping less than 18% its because of some really poor service. Something that a manager should be made aware of.

OTOH, sometimes I want to tip extra. In those cases I usually just leave some cash along with the signed room charge containing the automatic 18%. That way I know it goes to my server rather than being pooled.

We love TIW!!! With older kids - the price of DDP + tips for 4 faults is INSANE - about 200$ a day. We would never order 4 entrees, 4 desserts, and 4 sodas at every CS meal - and would not order 4 sodas and dessert at TS either! DDP kind of forced us into eating dinners so that we felt like we were at least breaking even.

With TIW we can eat the way we want to, get wine with dinner, and pay less than 200$ a day most days (special dining excepted - but that would have been TWO DDP credits anyhow - so a 400$ day - and we absolutely eat cheaper than that w/TIW)

NOW - when we had kids under 9 & did lots of character meals (and when only a very few restaurants were 2 credits) - DDP was great.

Don't know if TIW would pay for itself in one trip though. I guess it just depends on how much TS dining you will do. We have APs and with multiple trips, and it absolutely does pay for itself.

Its been our experience that we can make this pay off in one trip. Figure 4 adults going to a couple of signature dinners (or perhaps 2 adults going to V&A's) with beverages will get us over the break-even point quickly.

If TiW costs $75 then $75 / 20% = $450 break-even point.
