Hi. I am not a DVC owner and am not sure if this is the right place to post, but I am reaching out to the DISboards as I know someone here will be able to point us in the right direction. Several months ago, my good friend, Diane, ("Clutter" here on the DIS), a DVC owner and BIG WDW fan, passed away very suddenly and unexpectedly. She was a single woman with one daughter who is about 25. I know that last spring Clutter was talking about putting her daughter on her smaller DVC contract but I don't know what came of that. Mostly, I am reaching out to you guys to find some info for Clutter's daughter. Neither of us know who to contact at DVC or how DVC contracts are handled in the event of the death of an owner. Are the contracts something that are inheritable, is there someplace on the contract that specifies survivorship, etc.? Neither the daughter nor I really understand how DVC works (use year, carry over, home resort, etc- all things I've heard but don't really understand how they work), but right now, she isn't sure who to contact regarding the membership/contract itself. If anyone can help or point us in the right direction, I'd appreciate it. Also, Mods, feel free to move this if there is a better location on the boards. Thanks everyone.

i would start with wdw.dvc.member.administration@disney.com or call/chat member services. i imagine you would need a membership id# and they may only give details to the heir/executor. i think the contract would be treated as any real estate - it would pass according to the terms of a will, or to the daughter if the owner died without one. sorry for your loss.

Sorry for her loss. She should talk with the attorney that's handling her mothers estate. Unless she was named on the deed(s), it will likely need to go through probate which the attorney would handle.
