Just wondering who all remembers the Castle when it looked like a big cake!!
I did like the looks even if it was a little on the gawdy side!!
I will be anxious to see the changes to it when we arrive in May.

Yep!!! It was the big Birthday Cake!!!! 25th Birthday... pink frosting cake with candy on it!

I remember and have pictures. I'm glad it is the castle again. What is planned for May. We'll be there in June, so I'll get a chance to see it.

Sorry I really didn't care for it,glad when it was no longer a cake. :goodvibes :wizard:

1) The human brain is a wonderful thing.
2) It allows you to remember the painful event, but not feel the past pain.
3) I thoroughly remember the cake,
4) I fortunately cannot feel the actual pain of that sight.

NOTE: We went for a wedding of a friend. They paid humongous bucks for the Grand Floridian Wedding Chapel. As the bride takes her vows, the Castle is in her sight. VERY COOL ! However, due to the "cake" she actually asked for a refund, and they gave it to her. Turns out that this was not such an isolated request from bridal parties ! (They did not get refunds on the reception and other parts of the wedding, just the Wedding Chapel portion.)

I loved when it was the cake and even have that picture on my mouse pad. Glad they didn't keep it that way but I thought it was very cool. We were lucky enough to see it in person.

I remember and I absolutly loved the castle like that. I know I am not the norm for that opinion - but I did like it alot!!

We have pictures of it too, but I did not care for it. Hopefully it will be a little more elegant looking for this celebration.

Screamscape.com has artwork of the planned changes to the castle for this upcoming celebration. IMHO it is being done in very good taste. Here's the link to that page, with the pictures appearing to the right of the very first paragraph. Click on them for a larger image of the artwork.

Yup, I remember the cake. We too have pictures of it. Now when the kids take out the Disney trip pictures, DS (4) keeps asking 'What's that?' I try to explain that it's Cinderella's castle. Both he and DD (7) (I was pregnant with her at the time) have said 'She lives in a cake?' Try explaining that to two kids and then explaining that it will not look like that when we go in April.

I remember it as a cake (saw it twice in person) and very glad they removed it. What a terrible thing to do to such a great looking building. Hoping that they do something tastefull with the castle this time around.

I do indeed remember the castle as the cake. I was emotionally distraught the entire time we were in the Magic Kingdom. I eventually got over it on subsequent trips, when the castle was back to normal. Then last year we got the opportunity to go to California for my partner's brother's wedding. Disneyland at last, I was excite and happy. Well, the wedding was in August of 2004. Our trip was planned so I do some last minute internet searches on DL, and discover the horrible, sickening news. The castle I had dreamed of seeing since I was a mere lad, would be covered by a big blue tarp while we were there. I was emotinally distraught even before we left for CA. I cried to my friend, she thought I was crazy. I told her of the birthday cake castle nightmare. Needless to say, once I was in the Magic Kingdom at DL, I stood infront of the "Magical Blue Tarp" as i called it that trip and smiled. I returned home and photoshopped a photo of the castle into the picture. I am a little worried about Cinderella Castle when we go to WDW in June of this year. But as long as it isn't pink, I think I will be ok.

Nice job! The magical blue tarp wasn't pretty was it??

I think that the castle will be much more classy this time. The artist's renditon in the Mickey Monitor sure looks "swell" ::MickeyMo

Unfortunately, I do remember the cake, it was still up during Christmas of '96 I believe. It was the color of Peptobismol or however it's spelled. They could have did something much nicer and classier to the castle, but they chose to cover it up. As another post said, I feel horrible for anyone who had a wedding during that year. I've seen the pictures for the 50th Celebration, and I think it looks a lot classier and more beautiful than the cake ever could.

LOL my DS (5 at the time) walked right up to it and before I could stop him he licked it!! yuck I know... but he thought it was a real cake. He was so excited. What a letdown for him after that lick though. LOL
