Who remembers Dick and Jane books?

Pin Wizard - Same thing here, saw them at Wal-Mart, big hard-bound books with lots of Dick and Jane stories. My daughter (six) loves them. I really feel like her reading improved quickly last summer when we got them. She's gotten past that level of reading now, but still gets them out every now and again. When she does, she reads the whole book! I'm so glad they will be in her memory now too.

I plan to keep them for her kids.

Oh my gosh ,i would love to have a couple of those books too, where at in Michigan can i get them?

I learned to read with those too. And we also had reading groups with bird names. The blue birds, the red birds. My kids think I'm nuts when I talk about having reading groups!!!

Oh yea I learned to read on those books too! I always look them over on ebay but I just can't bring myself to buy them, too expensive!

Great find!

If you have a Wal-Mart, check there. I got both of ours there. Also, www.walmart.com has a good selection of books, I bet they have them on-line too.

They don't have reading groups? My son's class did in the lower grades...red, blue, green, etc. Ha! No more numbering groups. Now depending on their skills, they have different teachers for reading and math. Ha!...he has the tough teacher for math, the easy teacher for reading. Could be because at back to school night we had to complete a form. I mentioned that he's good at math except for having some trouble with fractions. And reading? I told them that getting him to read was like pulling teeth out!

Wow! Wal-Mart has them also? I haven't been in that store in ages...I'm a Target shopper. ;)

I remember starting DS with Bob Books in Kindergarten. I didn't like them as much. As a kid, I liked the colorful pictures. Bob Books were too plain for me. :) I still like colorful books! :teeth:

I teach a reading class and they use such hard names for characters that the students can't even get past the name. Nothing like Dick, Jane, sally, and Spot. Those were the good ole days.
I still buy books now according to names! If I see a name I have trouble pronouncing...LOL...or if I don't like a name of one of the characters, I don't buy the book! :smooth:

See Spot run. Run Spot. Run.

I remember them!!

Okay I'm getting ready to brag for a moment. DD5 reads very well, with little to no help at all. Okay no more bragging. Anyway, my MIL sent DD and DN Dick and Jane books about two months ago. DD takes her Dick and Jane books everywhere. She loves to read them cover to cover.

I learned to read with Dick and Jane too. I can see the pictures now, Dick with his striped shirt, Jane in a little yellow? dress, and Sally with her curly blond hair.

Family visited the Museum of American History last weekend and they had Dick and Jane books in the gift shop! You could check Simithsonian web site or call to order them....

Happy Reading!!!

Why does the thought of Dick and Jane books being in the Museum of American History sound OLD? :earseek:

I have one of them at my dad's house. :) It's been through a lot.

My mom has some of the originals of these books.... :D She lets my nephew try and read from them.
