Who really uses the kitchens at OKW?

We always have big breakfasts at OKW (pancakes etc), and we usually like to eat at the nice WDW restaurants for our big main meal during the day, but if we have guests with children, we usually do cook meals as well. We don't do it nearly as much if it is just the two of us, but we often have at least one invite in big meal like pork chops, potatoes, veggetables, dessert....the whole thing.

We haven't had our first trip home yet, but would like to eat most meals in. My kids also get tired of burgers and chicken tenders, and husband gets tired of paying for the expense of 6.00 for a burger and fries.

I have a quick question, how do you handle having to buy condiments and such for your cooking meals in. Like ketchup, mustard, and mayo for sandwiches or salt and pepper when you will not use it all? One person posted fajitas. How about sour cream and hot sauce and such?

Just wondering... we have a long wait until December rolls around

We have small camping style salt and pepper shakers that stay in our "take to DVC" box along with the laundry soap etc. We also take zip lock bags of sugar and pancake flour with us. We don't usually make anything that requires ketchup or mustard, but if we did, we would buy the smalles bottle possible, and just leave behind what we didn't use. It isn't as big a money waste as $6 for a simple hamburger!

We have two boys (4 & 6) and found the kitchen to be a great thing. We ate in for most breakfasts (eggs, pancakes, etc.) and then returned around noon - 1 pm for lunch (cold cuts, chips, etc. packed to take to the pool.) We made a few dinners (ham, fajitas, chicken parm) and went out for others. We found the kids and us to be MUCH more relaxed when we weren't eating out all of the time. After dinner, we would return to a park w/o just having battled two kids (who are relatively well-behaved) in a restaurant. The best was after we got back in the evening and got the kids settled, WE could have a snack, drink, etc. and relax.pirate:

Okay, I'm starting to feel kinda bad now... we've used the kitchen for breakfast, but always something quick. I think the most complicated we've gotten is coffee and instant oatmeal. :o We heat up leftovers, and eat snacks in the room, but that's it. I don't think that I've ever actually turned on the stove or oven. Maybe I should try it next trip...

We haven't been home yet, but we are planning on using the kitchenette for a few quick breakfasts (bagels or english muffins), wine, cheese & crackers (which could be a nice lunch before we hit the pool), and for drinks to take to the park. We like bottled water and it could be put in the little freezer to be carried around during the day.

Otherwise, I don't do much cooking on vacation...Or it's not vacation for me.

We do especially breakfast but also have been known to make a sauce or some quickie things for the kids. Mac & Cheese ect...

We've used the kitchen in all of our DVC stays. Beyond not being overly impressed with Disney food, we get sick of eating it even though we've finally figured out that ordering 1 appetizer and 1 entree for the two of us is usually more than enough. Beyond budgetary constraints (feeding 13 people on the cheap one trip), we like to cook anyway. Normal life is too 'commando' for me to do much real cooking anymore. We usually do quick dinners at home or go out to any number of quality restaurants due to having too much to do. Of cource, being DINKS living in the big city does influence our opinions. :)

We freeze a few water bottles in the freezer. We use the kitchens a little when we stay at OKW. It is nice to have.

We used our kitchen, 2 bedroom, 5 adults and 1 kid. We shopped at Costco for alot of our cooking wants. We love the Hormel pre-cooked bacon, we found it best if warmed in the oven for a few minutes instead of the microwave. One night I made a whole beef tenderlion, lots of fresh garlic, with all the fancy fixin. It was great, we loved the range so much we came home and purchased the upgraded model.:earseek:

We do use the kitchens - even the small ones at BCV/BWV as well ranging from lite fixins to full blown out cooked meals

We freeze juice tetra pak boxes and use them as coolers to keep lunch cooled off and then sip the juice after lunch

Love the kitchen option!

thanks

We eat in twice a day. Always breakfast - cereal, bagels, frozen waffles. Then we have either lunch - sandwiches, mac and cheese, canned pasta or dinner - frozen lasagna, pizza, chicken, hot dogs, or anything quick.

I do not mind cooking. It is usually fast and/or easy and everything goes in the dishwasher when done. No sense in paying the big buck to Disney when it is just too easy to eat in the room.

We all try so hard to get a room with a wonderful view. We then leave it to eat in an expensive, crowded restaurant that has no view to speak of.

I think its worth the time to prepare meals.

I put beer in the fridge, and one time we had a pizza delivered and I put the leftovers in the fridge.

We've only had the pleasure of one trip home so far......but enjoyed and utilized the kitchen quite often. We usually prepared 2 meals a day, but did not limit ourselves. My DH complains when my DS and I want something quick for breakfast.....he wants the works. So, we usually fixed things like French Toast/Bacon/Eggs. Depending on what the plans were for the day, we'd choose to have lunch or dinner at the villa as well. I am the type of person that has to eat something as soon as I wake up, so this was perfect for me. When we stayed at Dixie Landing now known as Port Orleans-Riverside, I would wake up, eat a couple donuts before getting ready, then turn around and eat a full breakfast at one of the restaurants. I know that probably sounds silly, but if I wait too long I get really bad headaches or get really sick......low blood sugar. This was perfect for us, as we do enjoy eating out......as long as it's not every meal.

Been a member since 95-never used the stove-have used the toaster. and of course the refrig.

On the trip last May and for our next two trips, we have menus planned for in the rooms. We eat two dinners and two breakfasts out and cook in house for the rest.

We have had spaghetti and meatballs, steak with potatoes and veggies, the full breakfast suite, tacos, prepared chicken for salads. And then the usual hambugers etc for a quicker meal.

NOTE TO DH:

If you are reading this thread, STOP NOW!!!!

Don't believe anything you've read thus far. It's just like I told you sweetie - the fridge is for soft drinks, milk, beer and wine. The microwave will blow up if you try to cook something more complicated than popcorn or leftovers, and the stove and oven are completely ornamental features.

The kitchen is for looks, the phone is for meals (making PS Reservations).

Love Ya!
