Who paid for your wedding?

This is actually a concern of mine, as I think I am dating the guy I'll marry, but his family is from huge money and mine has never had much. I have no idea how we'll afford the wedding that I know his parents expect, plus they're very uncommunicative and I think any conversations around the topic will be intensely uncomfortable ... ugh

My parents paid for our wedding. His mom paid for the groom's dinner. We paid for the rings, HM, and gifts for all the attendants, parents, etc.

My dad would not have had it any other way. I am the only girl and he had always said he would pay for my wedding---as long as I didn't go crazy with some mindset of an unlimited budget. We came up with a $ amount that was comfortable for my parents and worked from there. It was more than we could afford without their help, but a lot less than people spend on weddings now adays!

Our wedding is in October and it's a destination wedding. The whole process is very unconentional but works for us!!!

We are paying for most of the wedding. MY parents AMEX point bought our plane tickets to San Juan and back for the cruise. They are paying $1500 towards the ceremony and reception. They also held a Engagment party this past weekend at our beach club for us. I believe my father is planning on doing dinner the night before the ship leaves in San Juan for both families and my best friend and her husband. The best man is flying in the day the ship leaves. My MIL is in a tough position and can't provide any help which we understand competely. We plan on actually paying back anything my parents help with the ceremony and reception. They are not in the position to do all that themselves either.

my first wedding...my parents/his parents/we all paid for it. wouldn't even be able to tell you what we spent...but it was pretty budget...


my second wedding, my DH and i paid for the whole thing ourselves. for our honeymoon (WDW), the wedding (in kissimmee), and everything, we probably spent a total of about $3000.

my sister got married last year. they probably spent a good $10,000 on their wedding and honeymoon! and it was a local wedding!!

My parents gave us $5,000 towards our wedding. We paid for the rest ourselves, which wasn't much more. My mom kept saying we should do this or that (like leave the reception in a hot air balloon, buy expensive gifts for out of town guests). I simply told here there was no more money in the budget.

It was a beautiful and very fun wedding.

The in laws paid for the rehearsal dinner, a brunch the day after the wedding and gave us $1,500 which we used for our honeymoon.

my parents paid for most of mine. I must admit I was too young and immature at the time to appreciate it.

It was a very modest affair however, the ceremony was in the church and the reception was in the VFW hall. A friend brought his stereo and huge speakers and did the music for us. The local Deli did much of the catering and my Grandma and Aunt baked hams. We had alot of attendants but they all paid for their own dresses and tuxes.

I'll definately help pay for our son's weddings assuming they would ever be able to find somebody willing to take them. I would be just as happy if they used the money for a down payment on a house and we all went to Vegas the ceremony.

Actual wedding, I paid for it. Ten dollars for the Clerk of the Court to perform the ceremony. No one else was there, no reception needed.

I bought the clothes I wore, DH bought his. I don't remember who paid for the rooms we satyed in Friday and Saturday night after.

My parents paid for my wedding (which incidentally was 18 years ago tomorrow! ). I was 22, he was 24. In my family, girls are expected to have a big, traditional Italian wedding at high mass followed by a big extravagant reception planned primarily by the mother and grandmother of the bride. So that is what I had. If I had to do it over again, at this age, I'd scale way back, but it was nice for that time in my life.

My dh and I paid for our own, but his parents gave us a large amount of money as a wedding gift, and my mom bought my dress. Our wedding cost around $5000. (And looking back, we would have done it even smaller!!!)

We did the same thing for our rehearsal dinner. We had a summer wedding and everyone enjoyed the BBQ.

My parents paid for 70% of the wedding, and I paid for the remaining 30%. Since DH was still in school, I paid for the honeymoon as well. My mother-in-law paid for the rehearsal dinner. Pretty traditional overall.

We got married almost 12 years ago. We pretty much went by the Peggy Post etiquette book. My parents paid for the wedding, my dress, flowers, pictures, etc. My grandparents hosted the reception at their home (which was my dream), and DH's parents hosted a beautiful Rehearsal Dinner, bought the required flowers, some pictures, and the minister. We paid for our rings and honeymoon at WDW, although we paid for our honeymoon mostly with wedding gifts. It was beautiful and I hope to be able to do the same for my DD's one day (in the FARAWAY future!).

My parents paid for my wedding reception - we had a traditional sit down wedding breakfast (not sure why it is called that when it was at 4pm ) for 100 people and then a buffet with a band playing in the evening for 150 people. My parents also paid for the car, the flowers and the church. I paid for my dress and my 2 bridesmaids dresses and my husband and I paid for the photographs and our honeymoon to Paris. My inlaws matched what my parents spent on the wedding by buying us things for our house which we bought a month before the wedding - sofa, chairs, washing machine etc. My mum organised the whole thing though, I just designed my dress and my bridesmaids dress and turned up on the day
