Are you watching it? Do you think this is a good time to buy Disney stock? Will it go lower? higher?

Did you own Disney stock before or after you bought into DVC? I just bought into DVC this year and now am looking at buying Disney stock. Has anyone else done this?

brought before I owned DVC - but very little.

my personal opinion is the entire stock market has not reached the bottom yet.

next year it might.

that say might buy now - just in case I am wrong....

Have had substantial number of shares for many years, began purchasing long before purchasing DVC in 1997. In the past, Disney has usually been a fair but not stellar performer but has provided dividends (for which I have automatic purchase of shares). Am not considering purchasing any shares now (except for any that result automatically from dividends). What is going on now, no one living person is familiar with and no predictions can be relied on.

:)
..back in the 1940's my dad was asked to work
at Disney Studios. I felt it would be the one thing
I could do for a man who financially gave me the
opportunity to own a DVC!
Not to be longwinded but, at age 15 he was given
a full scholarship to "Cooper Union" in NYC. That's
basically the equivilent of Julliard! The man was
an incredible artist! Unfortunately, because of
my grandparents divorce...he needed to stay
close to home.

 Thanks for the dreams, Pop!:thumbsup2

How sad that he couldn't take advantage of the Cooper Union admission. It is an incredible place. Did you know that they don't charge anyone? If you are able to get in then you get a free ride...it's the getting in that's so very difficult! He must have been amazingly talented to get admitted at 15!

I own. Right now I refuse to look at what ANYTHING I own is worth. As for the bottom...

My crystal ball is broken!

I've owned for a long time...not long after Eisner came on. I bought my first shares thorough Edward Jones, and now buy through Sharebuilder.

I own Disney stock, which I bought shortly after 9/11, when (I thought then) it was at its lowest, exactly $20.00/share. I haven't looked at the present rate in a couple days, but as of a couple days ago, it was still (slightly) above that cost. I figure things can't get too much worse than they were after 9/11, as far as the impact on tourism, and thus Disney's income, so it's not likely to get much below $20/share. So I'd say it's probably a fairly good time to buy (but I'm not a stockbroker or in any way qualified to make a recommendation-I didn't even stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night).
Oh, and I bought stock a few months before we bought DVC. In our case, there was no connection between our decision to buy stock and our decision to buy DVC.

I just bought a share a week ago for my daughter for Christmas: $21. About a month ago, I bought one share for my nephew's birthday; it was $25.

:wave2:

I bought stock before there was a DVC. I bought it mainly because at that time stockholders were automatically members of the Magic Kingdom Club. A year or 2 later, that stopped.

Somewhere along the line (1997 or 1998) there was a 3 for 1 split.

i bought 1 share a few years ago for DH as stocking stuffer for Xmas...aside from liking the look of the stock itself (nice artwork;) ), DH researched & decided to buy some shares...one of the few stocks that's not listed in red everytime i click on my homepage:rolleyes:

closed over $20 today, believe it's still rated "buy" by several "experts":confused3

economy will hit the parks hard yet, hannah & the jonas bros r still raking in the dough:wizard: :)

We sold our Disney stock along with a last few couple of tech stocks about 2 months ago. Most was sold last September. I can remember months ago hearing that the DJIA would bottom at 8500.... I thought, no way is it going that low. Still, we got out when others where saying you don't lose money until you sell that paper. I think nobody knows what the bottom will be, but I think we are approaching it... Unless, we move into a depression. Things are bad... The company I work for is almost out of liquid resources (including credit lines). Mary Beth and I are now discussing worst case scenarios. Last year when credit was soo expensive we decided to pay down a $150K equity line with $80K cash to reduce our interest payments... now I wish we had the cash back in the bank... Go figure... I can't. There is soooo much room between the bottom and the sky that I think you can wait and watch to make a decision on buying any stock. Good Luck. :thumbsup2

I have a few shares (then I don't feel too bad when a spend money at Disney) :rotfl:

one I have the certificate for from oneshare - love the way it looks :cloud9: :goodvibes

I own some shares that I brought before I owned my dvc.

I'm not looking at any statements. It would only cause me to reach for the nearest valium bottle. :faint:

Hey everyone,
I am new to the disboards but not new to the world of disney. We finally were able to buy in to the vacation club.Home will be kidani village starting in may . Next trip though comming up in January . Staying at the beautiful wilderness lodge this time. Our son is a cast member at Epcot. We live in the poconos.
Sorry , I guess the question was about Disney stock . We owned some but bailed last year before things got bad . Glad We did. My risk tolorence is 0 ( zero ) My money manager eqates me with an 80 year old man ! Says I am a throw back to the greatest generation ( I am only 53 ). I took that as a compliment . My point is , unless you have a wheelbarrel full of money and a high risk tolorence you should not be in the market at all . It can cause all kinds of family problems as well .Arguments , Sleepless nights etc. I would rather get 4% guaranteed return ( like a good cd) than maybe 8 % with something risky , that is why I'll never be rich but that was never my ultimate goal anyway. I just want peace of mind and health for my family and great times at Disney , and that I have . So you can have your stock market and ((( good luck ))). God Bless :scared1:

I thinks its a perfect time to buy Disney stock. We have had stock in Disney for at least 10 years now. Its rather depressing to see it nearing what we purchased it for initially. I don't check it daily anymore, otherwise I'd get upset. I figure it can only go up in the long run. Thankfully I'm nowhere's near retirement age, so time is on my side.

Disney is one of the first stocks that I bought in 1992. I bought more later. This was all way before DVC for me. I will hang onto mine. I refuse to look at my statements right now. I just tell myself that it's a good company and I still have the shares. As for the bottom, I think I am still waiting.

I'm holding. I bought at $23 and watched it grow to $36. I'm a little bummed to see it trading at $20, but know that it will be back. I'm not buying, but I'm not selling either. I believe in the company, but really can't afford to buy right now.

Disney will be back!
