Who owns Disney stock?

I have quite a few years until retirement - especially since I am currently unemployed. I chose to go back to school and change industries - mortgage is no longer where it's at as we all know...lol. Anyway, I have a dwindling 401k with Fidelity and had never really thought of buying Disney stock because I always just assumed it was too expensive (I had this vision of $100+ stock, I don't know why). Anyway, just checked out my account (down more than 60%) and I had some spare change in my cash account - so I looked up Disney stock and figured "why not?" I am now a proud owner of 10 whole shares at less than $19.50/share.

My Game Plan for the Weeks to Come:

Seek out stocks with good dividends. Buy only those with companies that have a history of at least maintaining those payouts, if not increasing them. And make sure the companies you consider can withstand a recession. STay in the game until the market comes back. Disney is a brand name that will have short term financial hits but the balance sheet is strong, not the high dividend yield I want but this is a one of a kind company with a PE multiple of 8. I think the market will go lower, but it will come back one day, and I want to be there when it does.

Just my opinion, by no means an expert. popcorn::

you know....there is a speculation amongst alot of economists that dividends are the actual root of all our financial evils....

just something to consider:rolleyes1

It's darn low- but I said that last week too. When it hit $20.50 last week I bought some more DIS- thinking it wouldn't go much lower. (Obviously I was wrong) I think it is a solid stock and it is a decent buy if you have time on your side. But, I wouldn't count on a quick buck anywhere in the market right now.

I own. Bought about 2 months ago. Have always wanted to but it was always too expensive so when it went down to around the $20 mark I bought. Couldn't happier.

Here's the direct link for the stock certificate offer at mousesavers. We bought one last year as a gift for my SIL and it looks great hanging on their wall. Also buy the frame from oneshare--their frames are very reasonable considering the quality you get. I ordered one unframed thinking I could pick up an economy frame but they're not a standard size. I looked into having it custom framed at AC Moore and even with a 50% discount the framing came to $60+.

Also Disney stock is one in a category that makes it easy to buy--I don't remember what this type of stock is called but you don't need to go through a broker to buy it.

Found it! Thanks! This is a great gift idea. I am going to buy one for my niece who is big Disney fan!

Thanks again!

I have owned Disney stock for about 25 years and also have accounts for our kids. Good way to teach them about the market.....once we got over the hump of them asking whether one of the horses on the carousel was theirs!!
