Other than smoking/non-smoking? Also assuming that there are no medical-related special needs.

Personally, other than wanting a non-smoking room, I think it is kind of an adventure to see where we will end up.

"Making room requests" seems to be such a popular topic, it gives the impression that everybody always does it. I wonder...

And I'm not implying that people should not make requests for specific floor or view... just curious whether the number of posts about the topic gives an accurate impression.

Thanks, folks!

At the old Key West, The only request I make is non smoking and I like to be in the Turtle Pond Rd area. I never ask for a specific building or floor.

Edited to add, I ask for this when I book, I never fax a request.

Other then non-smoking about the only other request we make is for non-handicapped, but we specify that at check-in. Since we only stay in studios the balcony views at OKW are very restricted so it's not like one building or another will make that much difference. We really don't spend many waken hours in our room so we aren't that picky.

We're not too fussy. At OKW we do ask for "away from the road" as DH is a light sleeper.

If we have someone traveling with us when we go to Boardwalk, we'll ask for a Boardwalk view on their account, but if we don't have guests we take potluck.

Depending on where I'm staying...

I've always asked for non-smoking.

For our first BWV, I asked for near an elevator (we'll see?)

For MK Tower, I asked for a MK view (got it)

For GF (in 2001), I asked for a MK view (got it)...this was before they divided up the points to garden, lagoon, etc...views

I don't go crazy with my requests....pretty simple and only over the phone when I book the reservation...no faxing!

Everyone who answers says, "No, I don't, except..." So here's mine:
DH smokes, but after that issue we don't see where location enhances the Disney experience. The balconies themselves are pitiful. Our except is for the first stay at BWV we have asked for a Boardwalk view, but we don't expect to get it.

The only request we have ever made at any resort is non-smoking.

We, too view it as an adventure to see where we end up.

Only once did we not like the room location--at AKL. It was way too far from the lobby, but it was ready when we checked in at 9am, so we took it.

The other times, we have LOVED our room locations. We always find positive aspects to every room location.

We always find positive aspects to every room location.

I remember the first time we booked a DVC stay as members, we started with BWV in a preferred view, and requested a BW view. Though I knew it was not guaranteed, I was really dissappointed when we were assigned a pool-view (no, I didn't throw a tantrum in the Lobby ;) - LOL). However, as our visit commenced and we enjoyed the view of the canal, ToT, and the pool, we came to realize just how nice a view this was. The whole experience of the vacation was just so great that the view became a non-issue.

So now part of the planning process includes working out details I can try to control (like meal plans), contrasted with the anticipation of surprises... which is a major part of the magic, for us.

I never used to request a location/view , but after reading here I felt compelled to make such requests, Im wondering how many times I could have had enjoyed convienances of better location if I had just asked. (Bld 28 at POR was such a hike to anywhere)

My next challenge is not location but just getting my cro-dvc reservations linked so we do not have to move.

I was able to get bey lake view and illuminations view by request after not origionally being assigned to these views, (my assigned room at bcv was first the room behind the lattuce) so I think making requests can be helpful, as long as they are kept simple.

No, I don't either, except --

non-smoking
first-floor HH for my 87 yr. old Mom
since we usually travel with family we ask to be placed near them when we'e not all in one unit

Otherwise, I have never requested a specific building or unit.

Our second trip home will be in June and we asked for non-smoking and non-handicapped. Our first trip home (09/02) we asked for non-smoking which we got but were given handicapped (we didn't specify non). We asked for a room change not just because it was a handicapped room but also because the room was not cleaned and prepared.

Non smoking and to be near another member friend's room are the only requests I make. At this point, I am an adventurer and I have yet to get a "bad room".

Every time we have gone "home' we got a great room with a great view without the hassle of faxing requests.

I always request non-smoking, as neither DH nor I are smokers, and we prefer a non-smoking room. If DH and I are travelling alone, that is the only request I make.

If we are travelling with a group that we sometimes go to WDW with, and I request a 1 or 2 BR (dependng on how many of the group are going) and I am staying at OKW, I always request one of the rooms that have the bathrooms with the 2 separate entrances.

The first time we stayed in a 2BR, there were 5 of us...2 couple and a single. The single was sleeping on the couch, and I didn't request the separate entrance bathroom, so she had to walk through our master bedroom when she needed to use the bathroom. Not a huge deal, but the little extra privacy of having the 2 entrances is nice. I think this is only a consideration at OKW, and I think it's only in some of the first buildings built. Once they figured it out, I think they corrected it everywhere else.

As far as location etc, I like to be surprised, so I never request.

We are not picky about location. We request non-smoking and a place that we can park our car since we drive. ( That means not at the end of Millers Rd) It's fun to be in different sections and appreciate them.

However, last year we asked to be in the building that we owned. that it would be fun to stay in the buildiong that we paid for. MS was very nice about it.

non-smoking, boardwalk view with a good view of Illuminations, close to the elevator, away from the noise at the General Store, not handicapped, on the second floor, with a day bed, extra towels, extra soap, extra shampoo, away from the speakers on the Boardwalk that start piping music at 7 am.....:jester:

I've stopped bothering with specific requests. After 2 failed times, I have decided to leave things to luck.

My only request is a non smoking room.

OKW has some wonderful views - now if you like golf you possible can't go wrong - but I don't happen to enjoy golf - sorry I don't flame me - I just don't - so when I am at OKW I just love their water views - these (in my opinion) are by far the best.

Mother is 81 - so we spend alot of time in the villa - now if we were just in and out - then no the view would not matter.

I also want to be close to a bus stop at OKW, or near the elevators at BWV, BCV or VWL - mother can't walk far - after she lets me gets her a wheelchair - then walking is not a problem - but most of the time she says she doesn't need one - so we generally don't get one until the second day.

BWV I use to try to get the BW view - but since out of 6 times I got it once - I just take the standard views.

BCV - we got a Spaceship Earth view and it was possibly the best view we have never had - yes I have had the MK view from the Cont tower and Polyn Lagoon view - but I happen to love SE - so this was perfect for me.

it just depends upon how much time you intend to spend in your room - if you are only there for sleeping - view or location will probably not matter much to you - I mean you are leaving for early entry and staying for E-nights or as late as possiby - both times it will be dark so who cares what the view is - but for most trips - mother will only stay in the park around 4 hours (we get there for early entry) then we leave - go back that night - at dusk or after it is dark some times we can stay until closing. Other times she is just tired (and on some occasions me to - try pushing a wheelchair for hours in the heat and humity some time) so we leave earlier.

on our morning break - I can appreciate the view - while she rests.

NS and NOT a HC room. Occasionally we'll ask to be near a pool or bus stop but not usually. Anyone who requests nothing has nothing to complain about as they are likely to get the left over rooms.

Non-smoking is what I always request. And sometimes, I request a high floor. Other than that, I leave it to chance and haven't been disappointed yet. but than again, as long as I am in disney I am happy!!!!!

We request non-smoking due to asthma reasons and to be withink reasonable walking distance to a bus stop as we do not usually have a car

Thanks
