Who lets their 7 yr old read "On Board The Titanic" before a Magic-al cruise!

I'm reading! I can't wait to hear more about Titanic! :rotfl:

I should have the next installment up tonight or tomorrow. I'm a hunt and peck keyboarder (almost said typist, giving away my age there) so it takes me a while.:rolleyes1

 ok de-lurking to say I love:love: your trip report....
now please:worship: please:worship: please :worship: continue. It's getting this cruising newbie pumped for our May cruise!:cheer2:

Welcome and thank you:welcome: :thanks:
May, hey, that's just around the corner, I'll expect a full report when you get back:surfweb: popcorn::

Purplepeg,

Thank you so much for the info. You are the best! It really helps a lot with our planning.

Just wanted to thank everyone else for their posts as well. It is amazing how much you learn from this website. It has truly made our Disney vacations, and now our cruise perfection!

Thank you all for posting. I feel so much better now. I am working on the next installment:surfweb: Dh and I had a weekend getaway in the city to spend time together. I did work a little on the report so it should be out soon. If not tonight, tomorrow. First I'm giving up housework and now I'm sacrificing time with my honey:scared1: What's next....eating, children:lmao:

Let's see... you just spent a week with DH and the kiddos, so yes... you need some "you" time. And as for eating... you can eat while you type if you absolutely must (yes, I'm old enough too to still call it typing), but didn't you just eat bunches and bunches on the ship? And housework... we've already talked about that girlfriend. :rotfl2:

And no... not officially a comedian but thanks ... nice to know the jokes aren't falling flat or being misconstrued. But I do live with a husband and two sons (yes, three children.... just that the oldest is 50 and thinks he has free will.... the other two know better than to cross momma) so it helps to have something of a sense of humor. Truly it's something of a survival mechanism -- have you seen what teenaged boys will let their room look like if left to their own devices? I think there might be something growing in there.

Now come on... we're all dying to hear what you did in re the Titanic to leave scars on that precious little girl. To paraphrase Bette Midler in "First Wives Club" -- I'm her mother... I have to give her something to talk to her therapist about! :rotfl2:

Hypermommy, you crack me up:rotfl2: :rotfl2: I have tears in my eyes:lmao: I went to a meeting a 5pm tonight. Wouldn't you think that would be a dinner meeting? So at 6:30 I said "are we eating or are we going to wrap things up soon?" I get cranky when I haven't eaten:scared1: I didn't get home until after 8 because I had to stop for something to eat. Please forgive me for not get the next installment up today. I'll do my best for tomorrow but my MIL is coming to stay over after minor surgery Wed so I have to get my house in order. I'm pretty sure she's going to want to eat while she's here:rotfl2:

Yes, I would definitely have thought a meeting that late would be a dinner meeting. But then again, some people have no home-training, eh?

You know there's a big part of me that wants to say show MIL where the kitchen is and be done with it. But then again, I understand enough about family politics to know that you have to keep the MIL happy. And whatever's not right about the house she'll surely find, right? :scared1: So, okay... you came up with a valid excuse. This buys you one day, okay? C'mon... I'm jonesin' over here!!!!! :rotfl2:

Well I awoke today to hives over my arms and chest and a bit on my legs. I’m allergic to sunscreen!! Eeeek that can’t happen. Of course since it’s been 5 months since I’ve actually had to apply sunscreen I forgot that last year when I started wearing sunscreen the exact same thing happened. I had to switch to one for sensitive skin. Well, I was sure I had packed the sensitive skin one, so I start looking for it and can’t find it. I ask dh and he says he thinks he unpacked everything. Great, now what am I going to do? Well let’s start with an antihistamine and a shower and let’s go to breakfast. We went up to Topsiders and had a good breakfast. We are one of those families who loved the hash browns. What’s not to love about grease?! And you guys were wondering how I got to be the size I am?! Anyway, we met up with Arnold at breakfast. He was our headwaiter and just fabulous, always spoke to us and was always busy and smiling. He cleared our table and wiped it for us as everyone else was at breakfast too. I think everyone wanted to get off to get to Grand Cayman, and who could blame them. We had to be tendered in this day. I believe, to start anyway, you had to be catching a shore tour to get off early. Dh and dd7 were going to go geocaching again here. When she found out you had to tender in she wasn’t so sure she wanted to go. I told her she could go and then when she came back we would go swimming. After much persuasion she relented and said she would go. I waited in the room, on the veranda. The tender was just under our room so when dh called on the two way radio I said “come out and wave”. Dd7 was too scared so she barely showed her head at the stairwell and made poor dh go to the lower level of the tender instead of up top with the great view.
Here is someone's yaht!

Before they left for geocaching we kept trying to get dd7 to journal about her vacation. That was her homework assignment from school. Of course she said she would do it no problem at the beginning of vacation, but once we got into it she didn’t want to stop and actually spend time doing it. Once the threat of no kids club or swimming was brought up it started to happen!
There were 6 other cruise ships in port with us on this day. Here's some pictures.

Here's our view of Grand Cayman.

I took dd3 to the Mickey pool and snagged a lounger right nearby so I could see her without having to go in. I had no sunscreen on at this point and of course it was a beautiful day with no clouds! Dd3 was so funny to watch. She was taking swimming lessons at home before we left and they often played the “Hokey Pokey” game in the pool. I was watching her there in the Mickey pool by herself singing the Hokey Pokey and doing all the actions! It was priceless!
DSC01806.jpg

I soon heard from Dh that they were back. I believe we met them in the room to hear all about it. They had a good time and dd7 couldn’t wait to go swimming. I was out on the veranda and I noticed the crew putting a lifeboat in the water. You know they do that at every stop for drills and training and making sure they work. I sound like I know what I’m talking about don’t I? I don’t really. I assume that’s what they’re doing because we’ve seen them do it on several cruises we’ve taken. Anyway, I think this is really neat and I’m sure my beautiful, intelligent 7 yr old will also find it fascinating. Think again! No, no, I point this out to her and she starts crying and wants to go in the cabin right away! I think, what the….? Well does anyone recall the Titanic book? Oh yes, she thinks we’re sinking!!!! The poor kid. I know, mother of the year here! Well, I explain what is happening, then we change the subject, get her ready to swim and I get to go to Grand Cayman by myself! I’m so lucky. Dd3 doesn’t like to walk very far these days so dh said why don’t I go geocaching and when we get back you can go shop for a while? Shop? You don’t have to tell me twice! This was the only port I wanted to see anyway. Maybe when the kids are older we will explore more but for now I was looking forward to some alone time and souvenir shopping. I went down and had to wait quite a while for a tender. I think one had just left when I got there.

Once I got to Grand Cayman I wanted to find a Royal Bank. My sister works for the Royal Bank and I told her I would take a picture when I was there. As we were coming in on the tender I could see the Bank logo and it wasn’t very far away. Before I headed to the bank I saw a Haagen Das ice cream place and seeing as I was hungry I stopped for some. I had two scoops in a cup. One was Dulce de leche and the other vanilla caramel brownie. The dulce de leche was the better of the two. I got some pictures of the outside of the bank and then went inside to see if I could take pictures of an employee. Of course when I got back my sisters says, “oh no, that’s against policy”. Could she have told me that before I left and made myself look like an idiot? Noooooo! Anyway, walking just down the street I see a rooster walking around just outside some stores so I have to have a photo because there is no way in Winnipeg is there going to be a rooster walking around on the street just down from the bank. As I look at the photo I’ve taken, I realize the rooster is in front of KFC! Run rooster run! Unless he was looking for his relatives?! After that I headed to this store I had passed. I can’t remember the name of it but it sold a lot of the Tortuga Rum Cakes. There was a sign in the window that said if you spent $5 you could have a phone call or internet time. I was all over that! They sold postcards and magnets, cute t-shirts and short sets and lot and lots of rum cakes. I bought 2 short outfits for the girls. I think they were about $10. Then I bought them t-shirts that said “I’ve been to HELL and back”. I thought they were cute, because of the place called Hell there. I bought postcards of it as well, neat rock formations by the looks of it. I went into this room that held all the assorted rum cakes. They came in single sizes, large and small, and packages of 6 assorted flavors of small ones. I didn’t realize that until we got home and I was reading the package and it had the three flavors I hadn’t picked and then when I opened it I realized the three I had picked were on the other side! Anyway, I’m in this room and I’m thinking “boy, all these flavors, I sure wish they had samples” As I’m thinking this I turn around and what do I see but huge sheet pans of all the different flavors of rum cakes! Well I dove right in and started sampling. I decided my dad would like the original and then I bought what I thought was a three pack of chocolate, key lime and coconut. Turned out to be a 6 pack with banana, original and pineapple as well. They mad great gifts for people and they packed easily in my suitcase. I think I bought a hat for dh and a polo shirt as well. Needless to say this was a bit more than $5! I asked the girl at the till if the sign was right. She said yes, a 5 minute phone call anywhere or 15 min of internet time. I was so happy! I asked her if there was a timer there for the phone call and she laughed and said “no, it’s on your honor”. I’m such a rule follower! Dh had checked the weather at home that morning and said that it was -40 Celsius with the wind! I phoned my parents and they thought I was a telemarketer because they have call display! Luckily they answered and told me it was going to -52 with the wind that day and the weather had been that cold the whole time we were gone. I replied “well it’s 80 farenheight here!” They thought that was funny. I briefed them on how the trip was and they told us not to worry about them and have a good time. I figured since I spent a lot more than $5 I’d call my sister. Of course I get her voice mail! I then went on line and sent an e-mail to my ladies group to tell them of our fabulous weather. I know I’m just cruel aren’t I? I wandered around a bit more and went into a store that has all the embroidered tablecloths and Battenberg lace cloths. I bought a few table-runners for gifts and they had lots of sun dresses and t-shirts. Again, can’t remember the name of the store! I decided to go back to the store with the “free” phone call. I bought some more postcards and called my sister again. This time she answered! I teased her about the weather and updated her on the trip and the whole safety drill drama and tears and today with the life boats. She laughed, she has a daughter that had a lot of fears as a child too. I looked at the time and I had been gone for almost 2 and a 1/2 hours! I thought I’d better head back. The tender was waiting and before you went through security they were passing out ice cold cups of water. What a nice touch! When I was almost at the ship dh beeped on the two way to see where I was. I told him I’d be up right away. The girls liked their stuff I bought them and so did dh.

I'll do another post to add more pictures. I hope this will satisfy some of you for a bit! I still need to do dinner for this evening on board but wanted to get this posted.

This ship was an excursion of some sort and would fire cannons every now and then. The tall ship, not the Carnival ship! Just in case there was a question.

OMG! How cute is Mini Montana!! :lovestruc I think the rooster was out in front of KFC mourning his dearly departed!

So how'd you fare with no sunscreen? Hives or sunburn... what a choice.

The poor kid. I know, mother of the year here!
Nah... you only get mother of the year if you let her think for a while that it's for real. Sounds like you told her right away. Truthfully I'd have done the same... well.... after I got over laughing. But my kids are used to me being mean to them. :rotfl2:

Great posting ... lots of info... lots of pictures!!! This thing you said about still needing to do dinner for the evening but wanted to get this posted.... glad you're getting your priorities straight. Look, the kids know where the kitchen is, right? I mean you haven't moved it or hidden in, right? And even the 3yo can make PBJ, right? So see.... you're getting your priorities in order and we who are anxiously awaiting every installment are quite appreciative. :rotfl2:

PS -- I love the pic of the rooster in front of KFC. If you're a scrapper this should make a great page!!!

I am absolutely loving your trip report!!!
THANK YOU for sharing with us! Can't wait for more!

She got her money's worth out of that costume! It came with these black fake fur "boot covers". They left black fur everywhere:scared1: I felt so bad for Ike our cabin steward.:guilty: I love the "mini Montana" comment. :thumbsup2 I'll have to use that.

Yeah, I did get a bit burnt that day but not bad.

I did laugh but I had to tell her right away;) The fear in her eyes was too much:eek:

I actually meant that I still have to post our dinner and the evening from the cruise for this night:laughing: but yeah I need to make them more familiar with the kitchen. I was thinking I should send that picture to Jay Leno for headlines. I'm sure he'd find it funny.

Thank you so much for the kind words. :worship: It's so fun writing it and reading the great comments really boost my ego and then I want to post more:rotfl2:

You should! What's the worst that could happen -- him not use it? I told my kids about it last night and they were rolling!

Were you really up in the middle of the night posting:confused3 Do you have insomnia? maybe that's why you are so funny......it's sleep deprivation:cool1: I'm onto you:laughing:

We went to see the Wiggles tonight. If you've never been you need to go. The show is about an hour and really holds the kids attention. Dd7 told me after school today she was too old to go.:scared1: Last week she told me she's too old for princesses because her friends don't like them:eek: Well I thinks it's time to get her some new friends:laughing: Anyway, dd3 started crying in the car because she was sad the show was over:sad2: Poor baby. I'll try and do another update this weekend.

Nah... I usually wake up at 5am. It's the only time the house is quiet! :rotfl2: But when I know I have a lot to do or need to get to work early, I'm up at 4. It could still be sleep deprivation though. I'm usually in bed by 9 but I watch tv until 10 or so. Yeah, so that's the ticket. :rotfl2:

PS -- glad to know the remarks are not annoying you. Don't want to steal the thunder from your trippie.

We went to see the Wiggles tonight. If you've never been you need to go.

I don't think the two teenaged boys (okay... one's 12.5) would feel the same way about it. Hey.... maybe I could use it as punishment? You know... "you'd better do what I tell you or I'm going to make you watch the Wiggles". Nah.... Barney's probably much better for that, huh? 'specially if I could figure out how to do the whole Clockwork Orange strap-them-to-the-seat-with-toothpicks-in-their-eyes kind of thing, huh?

Amen!!!

Awwwwww... how precious!!! I remember that was such a cute age!!! I'd love to have little ones in the house again... but then I remember the work. Oh, what work that was!! Now, I can sit on the couch and they can fend for themselves and just let me know what they're up to. I know I tease you about putting other things in front of the trippie but I know you've got a lot on your plate with little ones at home. I don't envy you the work.

Now get your hubby off his butt, let him take care of the kiddos. Kind of like what we do in Scouts -- let the bigger kids look after the littler ones. You get your priorities straight and get back to the trip report! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

We took DS to The Wiggles when he was two as his first ever concert. HE LOVED IT!! He's always been a pretty high energy kid, so I fully expected to be up and about with him several times throughout the concert. Nope! He sat through the whole thing and didn't say anything about getting up until the middle of the finale!! Glad to hear they shortened the show; back then it was nearly TWO HOURS!

I hear you, hypermommy! I'm up around 5 AM every day, exept for the days I get up at 4 AM to run on the treadmill. It's my only "me" time!

Ok, again, I need my sleep. I can never get out of bed to exercise, I wish I could:headache:

We took some video of the other ships in port with us since there were so many. We saw the Grand Princess. That was the ship we took our last cruise on when I was expecting dd7. At the time it was the largest cruse ship, but it was short lived. It was surpassed by a Royal Caribbean ship. We noticed they added a big screen TV on deck as well. I think every ship we could see well had a water slide and a big TV on deck.

Here was our home on the ship.

It was soon time for dinner. On our way we were getting in the elevator and this person joined us for the ride!

DSC01835.jpg

Tonight was Master Chef. I had a sore tummy tonight and had to keep running to the BR. I know, TMI! Anyway I had the bacon, onion, and cheese tart, then tomato soup, for an entrée the roasted lemon chicken. For dessert I ordered the apple cheesecake and Rodel brought us the chocolate terrine to try. I didn’t eat much but had bites here and there. I found the bacon tart had too much of a smoky flavor for me but I don’t like smoked things so I’m sure other people found it good. The soup and chicken were good and the desserts were good as always. DD7 had a dessert that came with some berries for a garnish. One of the berries was a blackberry. She picked it up and handed it to her dad and said “here daddy you can surf the internet with this.” We looked at her with a puzzled look and she said “it’s a blackberry”! We cracked up. We didn’t know we had a budding comedienne in the family.

I just noticed that you can see the prices for the drinks and they are $4.95. I think that's pretty reasonable.

After dinner, while waiting for dessert Rodel placed the kids crayons into two triangles and then said “by moving just one crayon turn these two triangles into 4 triangles. Well we worked and worked but couldn’t figure it out. Anyone?! Then he showed the girls a magic trick with a package of sugar. They really enjoyed themselves with that and we really enjoyed dinner. Angie and Rodel were really engaging and fun tonight. It was nice to see.

After dinner we went to have the girls’ picture done with Sorcerer Mickey. Then it was off to see Twice Charmed. We all really enjoyed the show. After the show I was really tired and itchy so I went back to the room. Dd3 went to the club for an hour and dd7 and dh went to play “Who Wants to be a Mouseketeer ?” They apparently missed out on being chosen to play by one number! Tonight we turned the clocks back an hour for Cozumel tomorrow. We went to bed at 11pm.
