Who knew?

Do you get motion sickness? If yes, from what?

Actually you cross the gulf stream which runs like a river heading north as you are heading south. Does make it a little interesting that first night!

And the final night as you return to port.

Yes! I did not know I would get sea sick until I tried cruising! I never get motion sickness form cars/plane/boats/ferries. But on a very first cruise we tried, DH and I both got sick on a rough sea day. It was not the first day, I think it was day 4. I had never experienced something like that and did not know what was going on, but since DH also got it, we knew we were getting sea sick.
We also found out the guest service has the med and they work wonder! :)

Thanks for the tips! Dramamine and Bonine both work well for me on the plane, on rides or in the car so it may work on a ship, too. I guess I'll never know until I try!

If those things work and you want to cruise, try a cruise. Otherwise, since DH wants to cruise, let him go on one even if you don't want to go.

Agree, we did a Back to Back in Feb, when the current is a bit stronger. On the first leg of the trip, the Captain had let us know it would be a bad time. And it was for me. The second leg there was no announcement and everything was fine, though there could be some bias as I had already 'redeveloped my sea legs'.

My first cruise was only a 4-day because I feared this very thing. I took Bonine as soon as I got up that morning before boarding. I was fine the rest of the cruise -- even when the ship crossed the stream to go out to sea. We were rockin' and rollin' pretty good, but I was fine. The only time I got feelings of seasickness was going through rough waters on the outskirt of a hurricane. My husband and I took Bonine and laid down for a couple of hours and we were fine.

Green apples or ginger tea were recommended to combat seasickness.

I am all about natural remedies, so I will drink ginger ale. Since "it's a pirate's life for me", I have them mix it with rum.

It took years before my family could convince me to go on a cruise. Now we are getting ready for #3!!!
I went for acupuncture and it helped the sea sickness and other minor issues I was having... I start going two months before we cruise and I haven't had any issues.. I'm not a pill popper and this is the best solution, IMO...

My daughter gets terribly car sick - all the times. She gets sick on the plane and on the rides too. So if we are in a car for more then an hour straight, I give her Dramamine. Most of times it works for her real well.

She also takes Dramamine in parks, as she really likes the most rough and scary rides, but they make her sick. And she takes Dramamine on the plane.

When we first time went for the cruise (and it was the only time for my daughter so far), - I calculated how much Dramamine every person would need for the length of the cruise, and took it with us - just in case. :rolleyes1

But none of us had any problems. I was amazed that even my daughter had no sickness at all. At all. And she starts complaining about nausea after being in a car for more then 5 minutes.

We might have been just lucky with the cruise, as the weather was good all the time, and it was only three days. But nobody used any Dramamine :rockband: You just never know.

So don't get worried in advance. Try to think that you are going to be fine, but just take Dramamine with you. And you might get lucky, and have no problems. :flower3:

I have meniere's disease, which means my life can be a episode of motion sickness, but before a cruise I make sure to take bonine less drowsy for 2 days before and after and have done 5 cruises with no problem. I hope I can continue the streak!!

I had issues with motion sickness when I was a child, and this was true in cars, planes and trains. I have mostly outgrown this, but cannot read in a moving car. But, I have never been seasick even on little boats. I guess they're just different movements of the vehicles and my body doesn't sense the motion of the boat in the same way as the other things.

So, if you experience motion sickness in another kind of vehicle, don't rule out a cruise. You might be just fine!

Hope everything will work nicely for you! Good luck! :flower3:

Our cabin was in the middle on the deck 9 on Dream. People say that matters, and there is less motion in the middle. But we still felt motion in the room sometimes, and especially in the dining rooms on the lower decks. Still everybody was fine.

Bonine has been a lifesaver several times for us. I like the fact it is no drowsy. I take it before every excursion too for motion sickness on the buses, etc. It really works great.

So, here I am on my first cruise, and knowing me, I know (well, knew, at least) for a fact that I don't get motion sickness, so I thought nothing of it, especially since I've been on many airplane flights (one that was a one way flight to Germany which was at least 12 hours), roller coasters, and boats. After the ship starts to move, I felt fine...until 2-3 hours later that is. I didn't feel so good and I went back and the next morning, I thought if I had some food, it will settle my stomach. Well, that didn't turn out well because I went back to the room and I got sea sick for a good 1-2 hours (I felt fine after putting on Sea Bands which work wonders!). But it really baffled me because I never got motion sickness...EVER! Does/did this happen to anyone else?

YES. I felt so bad on the first night of my first cruise. I did not take nausea meds on the first day, thinking that I might be fine... The first night was so rough!

Same for the second cruise except that this time I knew I had to take the meds. I was fine but the ship was definitely moving a lot + we also encountered rough seas on the last night.

I bring my ginger pills and nausea meds and it's all good.
